  • We review and compare the two top plates for the roller derby market - the Pilot Falcon vs Sure-Grip Avenger plates. Overall the Avengers are more agile, however the Pilot didn't get any speed wobble and much better for speed.

The Falcon are 16 degree kingpin angle. The Avenger is a 45 degree kingpin. Just in case anyone else needs this info.

I have been using the Falcon+ plates for over 6+ yrs, and they are the most responsive plate I've ever skated on. I do a lot of slides and spins, and they make it effortless....I think I'm the only one in the rhythm skate community with this plate, and I don't mind. The style I skate with, this plate is perfect for me. I'm just trying to figure what plate to get for a back up pair of skates....

I have the falcon plus and use it for jam/dance and love the responsiveness of the plate and the stability at higher speeds is great too.

I think for the extra money of the pilot you are getting a better built plate which is LIGHTER than a mag avenger. End of the day if you want a super smooth action plate go with the 16 degree of the pilots and if you want to cut across the track so fast your eyeballs are gonna come out go with the avengers :D

Great job! I skate a short forward Falcon and my better half skates a sport mount Avenger as the blocking styles for the ladies is a bit different than the men. We love them!

Great Vid. Thanks. 👍❤😁 Are Avenger or Avanti mag plates really more wobbly? I know you can turn sharper on them. ....also, do you place the rear wheel centre right in the middle of your heel if you want to stand up straight? Had many skates over the years, always fitted (often very poorly) by a shop (here in the U.K.) so thought I might choose and fit my own this time. 😁

Super helpful ! Are either of these plates better suited for use with the Riedel Vixen boot? or any problems mounting either of the plates?

I was wondering the same thing. They look like Scott Corey wheels.

Are the white/red fan jet type wheels Corey's? Or....?
