Although I don't really like the majority of 2006's entries, there are some real gems here. I too really like Moja Stikla, Alvedansen is one of Norway's best entries which would've been my winner in nearly any other year, and Lejla is still my favorite Bosnian entry to date
This good year sadly just ends up being a little forgettable to me, mainly cause it’s mashed between two incredible years. There aren’t as many amazing entries here as in 2005, but I still enjoy a bunch of songs from this year. I also actually managed to predict your winner for once this time around. Below is my Top 5 1. Bosnia & Herzegovina 🇧🇦 2. Finland 🇫🇮 3. Romania 🇷🇴 4. Norway 🇳🇴 5. Greece 🇬🇷
I agree with your first sentence. For example, I love my winners from 2005 ("Angel" for Malta) and 2007 ("Leave me alone" for Finland) but I just like my winner from 2006 ("Hard rock hallelujah"), even though it's definitely unforgettable.
Norway 🇳🇴 is the only true rightful winner of 2006! It is a truly magical entry !!! Amazing if you are in a forest 🌳 in Lapponia or in Norway 🇳🇴 and there is an Aurora Borealis!!! And it sounds so angelic ! Like if angels are singing 🎤 their traditional songs!!!!! Amazing 😉 ! It is a true masterpiece!!!! The best song in that century !!! I feel that if my girlfriend sings me that song on Christmas in Oslo; I would be the happiest boy alive !
37- I think he's sexy and the song is good 36- Awful, and that's just the outfit 35- I like his voice, but his backing singers slightly ruin it 34- Really cheesy for me 33- It's a good song but I like more better 32- Sweet but boring 31- Honeymoon gone wrong here 30- Very catchy song. I like it 29- I like it, it's fresh and different 28- No. I was taken to Torquay rather than Tahiti 27- I think he's got a good voice and the song is good 26- Not for me. She annoys me somehow 25- This is OK but very repetitive 24- I agree, it's memorable but I don't like rock 23- This was underrated, such a jolly catchy song 22- This, on the other hand, was overrated 21- Not for me. Doesn't work for me 20- I love this. It definitely sounds Swedish but it's so great and Carola's voice is fantastic 19- Another fantastic voice and she still looks amazing 18- I'm not sure whether I love or hate it 17- Not for me. A pretty boring song 16- A brilliant singer and another amazing voice 15- Our entry, not my style but the song is very catchy. Don't know how now he's a Football manager 14- It's the lead singer of Aqua meets Donald Trump, it doesn't work at all 13- This is so catchy, I love everything about it 12- Another fantastic voice. And it's such a banger 11- Very 80s. Not winning me over 10- Paula Abdul singing for Belarus. Paula though can sing better 9- My favourite, this is such a beautiful song. Everything about this brings a tear to my eye. It's gorgeous 8- Another gorgeous ballad. Such a beautiful balkan ballad 7- This is hysterical but absolutely amazing. Why can't I not love it 6- Not for me, it's sweet but boring 5- Different from Germany but it is a really catchy song. I really enjoyed it 4- Good song here as well and she's got a decent voice 3- It's OK. But she's sexy 2- Frozen before Frozen came out. It's sweet but not for me 1- This is great, a really catchy and different song. I can see why you love it
2006 seems a bit strange, in my opinion. I honestly enjoyed it (especially with the semi-final intro piece and the interval act), and there were a bunch of good songs, but it doesn't seem like its memorable production-wise. This doesn't mean that it's polarizing, but I might have liked this year more than other people would. My top ten: 1 pt: FRA (I actually thought their 2005 and 2007 entries were even worse--this is a nice ballad with a good guitar riff. Virginie was quite nervous on the night, unfortunately.) 2 pt: SWE (Definitely the weakest of Carola's three entries; her performance is what brings this up so high.) 3 pt: NOR 4 pt: ARM (I actually found this a charming debut! The mix of ethno and pop make it quite fun, if a bit forgettable in the grand scheme of things). 5 pt: RUS (This is actually quite pretty good! There's a bit of excess in here in terms of staging, but it's still conveyed well. I believe it's more rated because it didn't win...) 6 pt: UKR 7 pt: CRO (The last great Croatian entry? Though their 2009 and 2010 entries were pretty good.) 8 pt: FIN -- I actually didn't think you would place this so low! I dig the song and jam out to it, but this isn't the type of music I would go back often. Still a deserved winner in my book. 10 pt: GRE -- This may be recency bias speaking, but Everything is my favorite of her entries. There's a desperation to the lyrics, in which Anna tries to define her relationship. Her stage presence absolutely fits with the song, and the knee-drop near the end was definitely a moment. 12 pt: BIH -- But Zeljko's best composition takes the cake for me. It builds up really well, and the poetic lyrics further amplify the melancholy. Everything works together in Lejla, and for that it's one of my all-time favorite entries in the contest. P.S. We are the Winners is a reason for the Roop to win this year, so that we may all listen to it unironically. :)
Here are my personal votes/rankings, i'am from the Netherlands 12 points: Sweden - Carola - Invincible 10 points: Germany - Texas Lightning - No no never 8 points: Romania - Mihai Traistariu - Tornero 7 points: United Kingdom - Daz Sampson - Teenage life 6 points: Finland - Lordi - Hard rock hallelujah 5 points: Norway - Christine Guldbrandsen - Alvedansen 4 points: Greece - Anna Vissi - Everything 3 points: Russia - Dima Bilan - Never let you go 2 points: Switzerland - Six4one - If we all give a little 1 point : Malta - Fabrizio Faniello - I do
I've chosen and gave my personal votes to the eurovision songs, performed in the Grand Final Show - it's a shame that Kate Ryan (Belgium) with her ESF song 'Je t'adore' is not chosen in the Grand Final Show > than i give Belgium - Kate Ryan - Je t'adore 10 points, after my 12 points for Sweden - Carola - Invincible.
To start, I am mind-blown at how high you placed Belarus, but that’s beside the point. Anyways, the year I was born! I actually feel that this year is a step-down from not just 2005 but also 2004. The vast majority of songs are just “meh.” The hosts were amazing though, as was the stage. 37. Turkey 🇹🇷 36. Iceland 🇮🇸 35. Belarus 🇧🇾 34. United Kingdom 🇬🇧 33. Spain 🇪🇸 ---------------- 10.
