2005: The fiftieth contest! We survived a four-way tie, a period in which Eurovision lost relevance in the music world (though it had some of their best entries ever), and many more to get to this point. It's the year of the ethno-bop, a side effect from Wild Dances winning the previous year. However, there are some diverse rock entries too, which hint at the future ahead... Honorable mentions to MLT, NED, and SLO here. My top ten: 1 pt: BIH 2 pt: ROU 3 pt: NOR 4 pt: MLD 5 pt: CRO (When I first watched the contest, it was in my tenth place, but it has since grown on me with its melancholic mood and poetic lyrics. I think another re-watch, along with time, might make this enter the top five.) 6 pt: LAT (I sacrificed MLT for this one, because I love the hopeful and sweet message The War is Not Over had. While Angel was a pretty ballad sung well, I could feel the wholesomeness with this song.) 7 pt: HUN (It's actually growing on me recently! I love the energy of this song, and this could seriously make an impact on a future rewatch) 8 pt: ISR -- It didn't really get to me at first, because it sounded quite derivative. I warmed to it over time, especially with the compelling lyrics and language switch which was so clean. Plus, Shiri sung so well and wore one of the most beautiful dresses in Eurovision history. One of only two good Israeli entries from the 2000s. 10 pt: GRE -- I'm surprised you're not fond of this one! Personally, I expected this to be my favorite, as it is a compelling package with a bop of a song. I like the use of the Cretan lyre and Helena's energy for this one. That said, there are other Greek entries which light my fire up more (including a poorly staged one to come!), mostly from the 1990s. (I've watched the whole thing in Greek commentary for this!) 12 pt: SUI --This is one of many winners I'm seriously doubting (excluding 1997 and 2009, in which I've had co-winners for both), considering the competition it has. What attracted me to this song was how dark and intriguing it is, along with the overdramatic lyrics. It's also quite the glowup from their entry from the previous year, albeit with the Swiss broadcaster having to import the group from Estonia to do so, haha. :)
One of my favorite Eurovision years - so many awesome and catchy songs. Israel, Romania, Albania, Poland, Monaco, Croatia, Hungary, Norway, Slovenia are my favourites
I feel like Slovenia, Hungary, Malta, Romania, Norway, Israel, Serbia & Montenegro and Greece all could have been my winner of this year. But Chiara is my nr. 1 as I think Angel is a beautiful ballad. And happy to see more people like Portugal. I was surprised when I saw how unpopular it was with the fandom. Yes, it was a weak performance, but I think the song is so happy and uplifting.
Definitely a better year than 2004 we can agree on this. Here is my top: 39 Germany 38 Lithuania 37 Bulgaria 36 Finland 35 Norway 34 Belgium 33 Netherlands 32 belarus 31 Austria 30 Estonia 29 Monaco 28 Andorra 27 Russia 26 bosnia 25 UK 24 Ireland 23 Turkey 22 Poland 21 Albania 20 Romania 19 Sweden 18 Spain 17 France 16 Malta 15 Switzerland 14 Iceland 13 Moldova 12 Denmark 11 Slovenia 10 Latvia 9 Ukraine 8 Greece 7 Croatia 6 Portugal 5 Cypurs 4 Hungary 3 Serbia Montenegro 2 North Macedonia 1 Israel
This year's really grown on me recently, I'll just share my personal top 10. :D 10. Hungary - I get it's insanely catchy and engaging, but I can't help but think the "naj naj naj naj" part gets a tiny bit annoying after a while. 9. Greece - This one's just a classic, it used to be my winner but it's grown off me. Not much to say other than I just enjoy it a lot. 8. Malta - Beautiful ballad, and I'm kind of just a sucker for Malta in the 2000s, so I've noticed. I just love this ballad a lot, and it's the only ballad in my top 10, which is rare for me. 7. Bosnia & Herzegovina - Their voices annoy me, but oh my god the song is amazing. It's so catchy, so fun, I can't help but put it high. 6. UK - Best ethno-pop entry this year, and I'll stand by that statement. Why? I don't know, it's just so good. Don't really have a reason for having this one so high other than I love it a lot. 5. Spain - MAN, how is this so underrated?? It's SO incredibly catchy and SO Spanish that it's a miracle how this hasn't become a fan favorite. 4. Belarus - Speaking of underrated, I love this woman's voice. It's such a strange song but it all blends together for me really well, and I've just always loved how cheesy and trashy it is. I just really love it. 3. Norway - Glam rock, this one includes like... all my weaknesses at once. Also used to be my winner for a bit, but quickly got overtaken by the next two. I love the chorus here especially 2. Ireland - This has, no doubt, been the biggest grower EVER. I had never, ever paid attention to this song before. But all of a sudden, it just completely exploded for me. Their voices, the incredibly fast pace, I'm especially in love with Donna's voice, and the entire song as well. Yeah, it's cheap, but how can I not love something SO different from Ireland?? I'm so mad this didn't qualify. 1. Iceland - You asked why no one ever pays attention to this entry. I ask myself the exact same thing, because this is just one of the best entries ever in ESC. Incredible melody, the drama gives me chills, Selma's vocals are... questionable, but I have Jemini in first place in 2003 so god knows I don't give two craps about vocals. The studio version is incredible as well, I've always loved this song, but recently it became my winner SO quickly. The performance was good too, I don't know why everyone says that it looks like shit and that it ruined the song. I'm incredibly salty this didn't qualify, probably my favorite Icelandic entry ever.
My first Eurovision, I remember watching the show a lot on VHS that summer. My top 10: 1. Slovenia 2. Croatia 3. Serbia and Montenegro 4. Norway 5. Switzerland 6. Moldova 7. Romania 8. Hungary 9. Israel 10. Denmark All the songs in my top 7 are my favourite entry from those countries.
This year is an enormous improvement compared to 2004, and a incredible year in my view. The amount of variety and the number of fantastic entries makes this one of the best years of the 2000’s. There are many entries I often revisit from this year, so making a ranking is kinda difficult, but I have a Top nevertheless. Below is my Top 5 1. Switzerland 🇨🇭 2. Israel 🇮🇱 3. Greece 🇬🇷 4. Serbia & Montenegro 🇲🇪 5. Slovenia 🇸🇮
10th: Spain (I like it, it makes me want to dance but it's not love) 9th: Hungary (ethnic music is really good) 8th: Israel (I love ballads) 7th: Bulgaria (a strong and underrated debut) 6th: Switzerland (this song has cool vibes) 5th: Norway (it reminds me of the 80's, in a good way) 4th: Serbia & Montenegro (ethnic music again, I just love it) 3rd: Slovenia (one of the biggest and most unexplainable Eurovision crimes) 2nd: The Netherlands (I still love ballads) 1st: Malta (did I mention I loved ballads?)
Here are my personal votes/rankings, i'am from the Netherlands 12 points: Russia - Natalia Podolskaya - Nobody hurt no one 10 points: Latvia - Walters & Kazha - The war is not over 8 points: Romania - Luminita Anghel & Sistem - Let me try 7 points: Norway - Wig Wam - In my dreams 6 points: Switzerland - Vanilla Ninja - Cool vibes 5 points: Bosnia & Herzegovina - Feminnem - Call me 4 points: Israël - Shira Maimon - Hasheket shenish 'ar 3 points: Greece - Helena Paparizou - My number one 2 points: Macedonia - Martin Vucic - Make my day 1 points: Malta - Chiara - Angel

Ah finally after boring years The strong years of the 2000s starts !!!! 2006 is by far the strongest one but 2005 also is very good !!! My personal Top 5: 1. My first place 🥇: Estonia 🇪🇪 but I feel that any of the songs of my Top 5 could be my winners! You know in strong years it is difficult to know which song is your favorite but for now Estonia 🇪🇪 is my winner ! It sounds like a country song which I love 💗 ! 2. My second place 🥈: Serbia 🇷🇸 and Montenegro 🇲🇪 3. My third place 🥉: Switzerland 🇨🇭 4. Albania 🇦🇱 5. Poland 🇵🇱
The first year with 16:9 resolution! I was pleasantly surprised with the Ukraine's production and how much quality it had. The hosts could've been better, they seemed a bit lifeless at some points, but still, great year; an improvement still from 2004. The song diversity is unfathomably large. Basically every single genre has some representation here. Looking forward to 2006 as that's when I was born :) 10. North Macedonia 9. Monaco 8. Hungary 7. Romania 6. Switzerland 5. Malta 4. Greece 3. Israel 2. Serbia and Montenegro 1. Latvia (33rd???????)

Maybe I'm the only one in the world again... My winner: 1. Belgium 'Le grand soir' (this song is perfect for me; I love it very, very much!) - 2. Slovenia - 3. Malta - 4. Austria - 5. Croatia - 6. Serbia-Montenegro
I know i'm late, but here's my ranking from France : 39. Belgium 🇧🇪 (Le Grand Soir) 38. Denmark 🇩🇰 (Talking To You) 37. Netherlands 🇳🇱 (My Impossible Dream) 36. Poland 🇵🇱 (Czarna Dziewczyna) 35. My comments to some of them: Cyprus & North Macedonia: Yeah, I used to confuse them. Add Malta & Slovenia 2006 into the mix. Latvia: I used to despise it. Germany: I don't know what happened since she was a good singer normally. Estonia: Funny how one of them is Laura from 2017. But she didn't sing well five years ago either 😅 Turkey: This is around the same place for me. Poland: They also came close the year after. Serbia & Montenegro: The fact that this is their "worst" result... at 7th place 😂 Ukraine: The instrumental lowkey slaps tbh Slovenia: This was really robbed. Austria: God, no. It's my last. Hungary: My 2nd as well. Should've done better, but opening the final probably hurt them.
Yup, definitely the strongest year so far of 2000s, I really like the diversity in this year as well! The strongest parts are yet to come, but this is still a very satisfying edition. 39. Belarus 38. Germany 37. Bosnia and Herzegovina 36. Monaco 35. Belgium 34. Estonia 33. Russia 32. United Kingdom 31. Portugal 30. Austria 29. Iceland 28. Andorra 27. Malta 26. Lithuania 25. Ireland 24. Israel 23. Turkey 22. Spain 21. Switzerland 20. Norway 19. Albania 18. Ukraine 17. Serbia and Montenegro 16. France 15. Greece 14. The Netherlands 13. Croatia 12. Finland 11. Poland 10. Sweden 9. Denmark 8. Cyprus 7. Romania 6. Slovenia 5. North Macedonia 4. Hungary 3. Latvia 2. Bulgaria 1. Moldova
Thanks for putting Stop, my favourite Eurovision song, in 4th and also nice to see Y asi getting some love.
My top ten:
1 pt: BIH
2 pt: ROU
3 pt: NOR
4 pt: MLD
5 pt: CRO (When I first watched the contest, it was in my tenth place, but it has since grown on me with its melancholic mood and poetic lyrics. I think another re-watch, along with time, might make this enter the top five.)
6 pt: LAT (I sacrificed MLT for this one, because I love the hopeful and sweet message The War is Not Over had. While Angel was a pretty ballad sung well, I could feel the wholesomeness with this song.)
7 pt: HUN (It's actually growing on me recently! I love the energy of this song, and this could seriously make an impact on a future rewatch)
8 pt: ISR -- It didn't really get to me at first, because it sounded quite derivative.
(I've watched the whole thing in Greek commentary for this!)
12 pt: SUI --This is one of many winners I'm seriously doubting (excluding 1997 and 2009, in which I've had co-winners for both), considering the competition it has. What attracted me to this song was how dark and intriguing it is, along with the overdramatic lyrics. It's also quite the glowup from their entry from the previous year, albeit with the Swiss broadcaster having to import the group from Estonia to do so, haha. :)
Thanks for Croatia!

My top 5. Thank you.
Same winner!!😂♥️
My comments to some of them:
Cyprus & North Macedonia: Yeah, I used to confuse them. Add Malta & Slovenia 2006 into the mix.
Latvia: I used to despise it.
Germany: I don't know what happened since she was a good singer normally.
Estonia: Funny how one of them is Laura from 2017. But she didn't sing well five years ago either 😅
Turkey: This is around the same place for me.
Poland: They also came close the year after.
Serbia & Montenegro: The fact that this is their "worst" result... at 7th place 😂
Ukraine: The instrumental lowkey slaps tbh
Slovenia: This was really robbed.
Austria: God, no. It's my last.
Hungary: My 2nd as well. Should've done better, but opening the final probably hurt them.
5 Turkey
4 Israel
3 Andorra
2 Spain
1 Greece.
Loving your choice for Spain in first place.
Why is Israel 8th? That's my winner, one of the best of 21st century.
But hey, at least it's still in the top 10. That's the thing.
Yes Ukraine was criminally underrated
Some of my favs got eliminated early 🤣

Really don't know how Belgium gets so much hate ! Do people have that short attention span ?
Lithuania deserve a bottom 20 of all times.
Best entry for Romania, far better than Greece's or Malta's ones. But that's Eurovision :(
Not 2 of my favs being the last 2 lol
My winner here is 🇨🇭 Switzerland, though 🇮🇱 Israel is close!
