I enjoyed this read through. Just seems like the early issues were a basic British superhero story but eventually the character would grow under other creators.
@@richard_c1327 You are welcome, Richard. The good news for you is there are another six parts to this series! Plus another, final, one next year. A real test of your stamina! 🙂
I am working on part 3 as we speak - his first appearances in American Marvel comics, although the continuity in those appearances was all over the place! 😀
Loved the review Grew up with 2000ad and those same British editions (grew up in Ireland) I collect action figures and comics and am hoping that Hasbro release a retro Captain Britain in the red costume I have the more recent Excalibur type version Will check out some of your vids
Still got all those original 39 issues; even got the mask and cardboard boomerang {?}. The, I think, sole UK Annual also remains on my shelves. I love the Herb Trimpe artwork of those first colour issues, Fred Kida's inks are so good over his pencils. Now the writing was obviously American not really knowing much about Britain, even if Chris Claremont was born in the UK. But still. Captain Britain! Apart from Union Jack in Roy Thomas' Invaders series, in the mid-seventies he was the only British super hero. Apart from The Spider. And the Steel Claw. And Robot Archie. Alright, he was Marvel's only UK super hero. And I loved him.
Thanks RMM you made my day just watched the Spider-Man /Captain Britain review and re -watched the first Captain Britain review and you mentioned the letter wasn't expecting that many thanks makes me feel part of the comics history ,I swapped mine as I entered early teens for some punk / new wave records made sense at the time,I have re -collected them over the past 7years all good copies no puzzle pages filled in plus the Spider-Man run the elusive number 8 was bought a couple of weeks ago for one hundred other collectors must have been busy it usually sells for more or maybe a sign of the times a good time to buy I picked up 24 with the jet for the same price I'm only missing the mask I can live without that for now . I think your reviews are great spot on Captain Britain was never going to be as good as the American characters but those early design comics had a certain magic at the time and still.do haven't checked out later captain Britain but will let you explain in your reviews thanks again a new fan!
Yes eBay excepted an offer of £110 I did have a chance a few year ago for £50 but at the time thought it expensive apparently it's rarer than the mask there's a copy on eBay at the minute £200 but offering it at £170
You are welcome. Things turn a bit bizarre for Cap before he enters his “golden age” under the pencil of Alan Davis. I can’t wait until we get to that period! 🙂
Brit comics are so cool. I love the size " that's what she said". I miss the magazine sized Action Force and transformer comics. We gave up on transformer comics. You guys did not, great job.
Thanks very much, Jerry. I’ve got to say, as a kid our comics didn’t seem at all cool and a pale imitation of American offerings. I remember being very indignant when I saw the first issue of Captain Britain monthly on the shelves. Idiot kid! That said I still bought plenty of issues of Transformers and Zoids. 🙂
It’s odd how anthology comics were the “British Way”. I can’t think of a single British comic (apart from some repackaged collected editions) that wasn’t an anthology title. Weird huh?
has a little kid Captain Britain was one of my favorites straight up and down his unique characteristics and his abilities surpassing your American Captain America buy a few tons it states that Captain Britain could lift up to about 50 to 90 tons
Hi Shakkar, those strength limits relate to the re-designed version of Cap and I agree, he was much more interesting and impressive than Mr. Rogers. I can’t wait to start looking at that version of CB!
Captain Britain was a completely different character than captain America he wasn't seen very much in American marvel comics but very popular in the Uk With the UK devision of marvel
You are right Philip. I remember someone writing a letter in to Excalibur having seen him for the first time in the Special Edition comic, saying they hoped he was going to be just as righteous etc as Steve Rogers. Ha! No chance! I liked the fact that (in his later iteration) he was very flawed.
I don't know how he can say nothing happens in issue 37 it's got my letter printed on the tell it be the captain page saying how much I wanted the comic to be a success 2 issues later it finished my fellow marvel fans at school took the **** for that one
Dai Thomas and Kate Fraser first appeared in a Blade the Vampire Slayer series years before this. Kate's psychic powers are revealed in that series. And Hugo Travis reappeared in the early 2000s in Marvel Heroes, a Panini publication. Do some basic bloody research!
I was about to thank you for the info but then you felt the need to be rude. I spend a lot of time working on my videos, I just didn’t know about a character that has appeared in a tiny amount of issues. If you can’t communicate politely I will report your next rude message, simple as that.
Your videos are intended to impart information. Any amount of time spent on them is wasted time if the information you are putting out there is wrong. In fact, it's worse than wasted because you are actually transmitting misinformation which will then be passed on further by others. The correct information is actually easily findable on several websites including the Marvel Database wiki and the Albion British Comics Database wiki.
@@tonyingram1337 Thanks for your comment, although I found it a little melodramatic. I, of course, disagree that time was wasted on the video. Thousands of views and hundreds of likes and numerous positive comments evidence this. I am aware, though, that you cannot reason someone out of a position that they have not reasoned themselves into so I won’t engage any further in the discussion. Even so, no hard feelings, have a nice day.
So why hasn't there been this much attention on Union Jack also a marvel hero also with a better story line then captain brittan come on reap off of Captain America and besides UJ knows CA they were old WW2 buddies they fault vampire's like Baron blood and other bad villains back then so bring on some more UK🇬🇧 ok he is the original England's hero
I'm sorry...are you totally unaware that both Dai Thomas and Kate Fraser were already established characters before Captain Britain? Blade the Vampire Slayer. Early seventies US Marvel black and white mags. Do some bloody research.
i gotta say though... the covers on these books are beautiful!
I always loved the original costume for Captain Britain , though I never realized he was such a mass murdering , taxi fare evading monster .
I enjoyed this read through. Just seems like the early issues were a basic British superhero story but eventually the character would grow under other creators.
Great review this was is dope!!
Loved the review! Gonna go back and watch the rest of your vids🙌
Thank you. It’s early days, so good to have you on board!
Death's head and Captain Britain would be an awesome vs or team up. Great video.
I look forward to the Marvel Team Up video. Thank you for your efforts. very clear and detailed review. enjoyed very much!
You are welcome, Rob. Thanks for your kind comments. Cap’s journey from title to title is an interesting one to follow.
Thanks, Man. I never knew this comic existed! Fascinating!

Neil Tennant , (yes the Pet Shop Boys singer) work as a editor chief of Marvel UK at the time, and he was the first with the idea of CB character
Even if this weren't true, it would be a brilliant piece of nerd knowledge to quote at every opportunity.

I think so, Hollywood Purgatory, especially after his big makeover - which I will look at in a couple of months’ time. 👍
