  • This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. College-educated Heather Lavelle was a successful professional until alcohol and drug addiction led her to commit a crime that resulted in a life prison sentence. Ms. Lavelle discusses “Working toward Redemption,’’ beginning with the hardest task of all - forgiving herself.
    Inmate at Muncy State Prison
    About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. She, the Murderous, convicted monster, has no right to ask for or expect forgiveness. The family of the guy she conspired to kill with her co-accused would never have wanted/expected this outcome, and they will miss him every single hour of every day. While she goes on with her life, telling herself that she accepts her fate and that she has forgiven herself. Im truly shocked at her blatant disregard and lack of empathy, and i hope she struggles every day for the rest of her life.

This perp, OTOH, kept on using those around her to satisfy her needs. And now she's got a platform to further prop up herself.

    Christian Rojas was an amazing guy. Say his name with the respect it deserves, wretched woman. He’s not YOUR victim. He was a loving, trusting and kind person. You possess nothing of his and no stake to his spirit or legacy. In death, Christian remains far above and beyond just being a victim. You’re your own victim, Heather. You are the demise and destruction of your selfish, careless heart. You owe Christian more than you’ll ever be able to repay, and you certainly aren’t accomplishing restoring that debt by trying to appear to be contrite as you’re applauded for your “bravery” here. True redemption comes at a cost you can’t repay and I pray that you find that. I’m disappointed in TedX having the willingness to exploit such nonsense and hosting your little talk. I look forward to going back to forgetting your name and remembering that you’ve only added trauma to those who love Christian and that you can’t take away my memories of Christian... a brilliant, self-determined, kind, caring, intelligent, compassionate man... a guy who always tried to help me in any way he could. God bless Christian. Pura Vida!

    Maybe she should have sought help from a psychologist or psychiatrist before she snuffed out the life of a kind individual. A lot of her speech was me talk, so I can see who's important in her life. $40 and a couple video games is all Christian' life meant to her, after he allowed her to stay there when she was homeless. (or said she was) You can blame drugs and alcohol and depression all you want, but it was your choices that destroyed Christian and his families' lives.

  • @kflowersmith
    @kflowersmith 4 месяца назад +27

    Christian is NOT "YOUR" victim! He is THE victim of YOUR CRIME! You have no ownership over him so DO NOT call him YOUR victim! And you should NEVER have written to his family if they had not indicated that they would welcome this communication. If they had not given you permission to write to them then all you did was re-vicitmize them. It's fine that you have "found" God and have forgiven yourself. But don't re-victimize the deceased victim by laying some sort of claim to him. That is callous and shallow and shows that you clearly lack insignt into your actions.

    Asking for forgiveness is a selfish act. If she truly did the 12 steps of AA, you make AMENDS (NOT asking for forgiveness!) to those who have hurt you, EXCEPT when to do so would hurt others or yourself! Pretty sure sending a letter to your MURDERED victim's family would qualify as an exception! Especially in the selfish act of asking them for forgiveness! She should be aloud to do a Ted talk, ya great she forgave herself but her real story is so horrible and gruesome she should have gotten the death penalty and the only reason she didn’t was because they gave her a plea deal in order to find out the whole truth and let’s say she was part of the crime but not the person who took part in the murder or led the other person there so they could murder him to get money and let’s say she served a 20yr sentence and got out and truly changed and proved outside of prison and was making up for her mistakes by helping others then I think a Ted talk might be earned but that’s not the case and she is still in there and I have never seen an interview of a killer who was still locked up who didnt act just like this and say how changed they are and how now there a Christian and blah blah blah

    I used to like Ted but all they now seem to do is to give platform to killer psychopaths, who are not really sorry at all, but love every minute of all this attention 👎🏽

    funny timing..,. how every criminal finds JESUS after imprisonment....or this case ONLY AFTER being faced with the death penalty. very manipulative..

    TedX really got this one very wrong. A murderer hardly needs to forgive herself. What a self-serving revisionist piece of ridiculousness this video is.

    Heather is such an amazing beautiful woman. She cares about her peers. I feel it's a honor just to have known her. Keep your head up and continue on with what you are doing.

      Can she keep her head up in front of Christian's parents? How convenient she can forgive herself.
