Sadly I have not been able to get it to work properly since this video. The original bulb went out and I found a replacement, but that one eventually stayed on at all times instead of strobing despite being wired the same way. I replaced the inverter three times and each time it would strobe, and eventually remain powered at all times. Very annoying, and I'm not sure what's causing it.
Say, you mentioned this in another comment, "Probably because it caused too much rattle. The scanner definitely does that, as the motor is vibrating so much that it shakes the metal and plastic frame." What if the rattling somewhat dislodges the bulb's contacts, making it do the flickering lightshow thing?
Bobby Kew The lightshow thing was something I wired in myself. The lamp is powered by a CCFL inverter. It takes the input voltage and basically boosts it to a couple kilo-volts. That output goes to the lamps contacts and powers it up. I poked around on this fatal board until I found where the trail of incoming voltage stopped. It went into a transistor and after that there was nothing. I ran the signal line from the motor (the signal from the arduino which tells it to move the motor) into this transistor. Every time the arduino sent an instruction to move the motor, the light would turn on. The downside to that is I'd be switching this transistor a few hundred times no doubt in each song. Eventually the transistor either shorts itself, or something else on the inverter screws up. I've gone through three of them and they all ended up doing the same thing. Even if I remove that transistor entirely the light remains active, which confuses me. Those things are extremely dangerous to poke around on so I'm not too concerned with trying to get that light show running again. I can probably figure out what the fault is but I'd rather not touch something I shouldn't. A much safer option would be to build a circuit for the 12v LED bulb I got from another scanner, but I haven't gotten around to doing that yet.
That was an unintentional side effect with the scanner. In most videos I've seen where people are using scanners like this, the entire actuator assembly is removed from the actual frame of the scanner. Probably because it caused too much rattle. The scanner definitely does that, as the motor is vibrating so much that it shakes the metal and plastic frame. The squeaking is from that shaking. The scanner in this has actually been replaced with a different one, but same model. The reason why is because that shaking actually became way too difficult to control and it was doing that because of how I originally took the scanner apart to modify it for this. On its replacement I have properly dismantled it, but every once in awhile she occasionally squeaks.
spartan456 Intentional or not, it adds a whole new level of depth that isn't in the original song. Either way, I did some praise for you in the comments section of your Cowboy Bebop "Floppestra". Fr though, you are the one and only true master of the floppy drive music as far as I can see. My reasons behind that being stated in said praise comment. Any chance you could find or make a midi of Foo Fighters - The Pretender to play on it? That one would be a very interesting one to make, I would think. Maybe something from Chevelle. Heh, I bet a MIDIfied Skrillex dubstep would sound hilarious with this. But that's my two sense. Cents. Scents. Right.
So I've been working on a way to 3D print clothes, and I hear this song coming from the machines at night when I set them to print........ should I be worried?
Just discovered your channel, this song is by far your best arrangement. Continue with your concept, addind a scanner and two hard drives is brillant :D
ragyo.exe has stopped working
The best and the most underappreciated Blumenkranz cover ever
God, that strobing scanner effect is amazing at times. Really makes this epic.

spartan456 Aw, that's unfortunate. Either way, your videos are amazing. I can't wait to see all your new works.

My favorite part is the harmonized squeaks at 1:11. That was ingenious.

As shiny as Ragyo
I personally really enjoy this particular song and all it's various different versions including that of this fine variation
This is the canon version of Blumenkranz for me
Man, you should totally make a Megalovania - Undertale cover with these things.

You should totally try doing a Portal song. It would sound way cool.
