I still do remember when I had to do samples of nearly everything you could possibly sew during my education as a Taylor. All sorts of ruffles, pleats, pockets and so much more. This vid brings back good memories .
@@aalishas8438May I ask why you would want to do that? I'm new to sewing clothes and I don't understand why a 'special' back pocket would matter. Thanks.
Thank you so much for putting this tutorial together! I've been wanting to level-up my sewing game for awhile, but never managed to get a welt pocket right! I love that your tutorial has a lot less steps than some others I've found online, but it produces by far the single neatest result! No puckering in those corners, no awkward bulk. I was able to use this tutorial to add welt pockets to a trousers pattern that didn't come with its own pockets, and I absolutely love how trim and tailored it makes them look!
You are a wonderful teacher. You are able to interact with your audience well. Your free videos has helped me tremendously. I'll likebto subscribe to your sewing group chat
Thank you for creating this video. I really like this approach and your clear, simplified instructions. It looks great and I’m thinking your method is unlikely to introduce problems. I’ve done this a few times by sewing the entire rectangle, clip to the corner, sew down the triangle etc. and it can at times turn out a little wonky if you don’t get all the lines just so. Great tutorial.
Thank you for the kind words. I'm glad you appreciate this approach and hopefully it helps you elevate your pockets as you hope. Thank you for watching and happy sewing.
Planning on making a battle jacket and have been scouring youtube videos to help make things like inner pockets. I dig your vibe so you got yourself a new subsciber
I am on my first sewing project and my "beginners" pants pattern has these pockets 😂 I am so glad I researched this because I was completely lost with what the pattern was trying to describe
@CorneliusQuiring Thank you for an excellent tutorial, it worked perfectly! I was surprised at how decent it turned out with how little experience I have.
Always love your tutorials! Thank you! May I ask: How far from the Center Back of Men’s trousers, do you recommend Welt pockets be placed? And, Do you place the Welts parallel to the waist band, or to the grain line of the pant leg? Thanks, in advance!
Thank you for the video! The explanation is so simple to follow! I hope you will do more tutorials like this. I just found your channel today. I have a question: i am a beginner so forgive me if the question is a bit silly. I don't understand how yo attach the welt pocket to the garment. Should i start the process directly on the fabric where i want the pocket to be placed?
I'm glad you like it and yes, I have many more planned :) Yes, you're going to do it right on the garment where you want it to be in the end. I would suggest doing a trial run first so you don't ruin your garment and then when you're confident, do the real thing :)
Hi Cornelious , the civil war jacket pattern im using has no pockets, and I'd like to add them for practical reasons at a comic con. (Im modifying it for cosplay similair to star wars imperial officer) So the question is do you have a video where you discuss how far down top and bottom pockets are placed please. Thanks in advance
Fantastic video! Your video quality never fails to impress, it's so easy to see and follow along with what you're doing. Thank you for doing what you do! :o) As for video ideas, while you're on the pocket subject, how about a single welt pocket next?
Thank you for the kind words and I'm happy to hear you are able to understand. Thank you for the suggestion, I will consider it for a future video as well.
On page 11 of the book there is an illustration of all the measurements. On page 12 match up the letters with the illustration and you will know what every measurement is.
I got confused once you sewed on the other end of the lining, it seemed like you were sewing it onto the right side of the fabric, and you didn't show turning it inside out, or turning it to the right side and opening the welt to show the lining - otherwise this was a really nice and clean tutorial that I'll definitely be referencing for perhaps some knickerbockers or 1930's skii pants
That's a really shallow pocket. I have big hands, for a female. I prefer deep pockets. Question: on making shirt pockets is there a method for the math to get the point/angle correct? As a former truck driver I liked long tailed T shirts and long, 7", pockets. I carried my small notepad and my pen in my shirt pocket. Normal pockets were too short.
In terms of adjusting the angle/point of the collar, I would add perfectly horizontal lines of the pattern and then transfer them over to the pattern. From here, I would create the desired angle.
@@CorneliusQuiring thank you I have just got your chanel today I hope I will get something, am a beginner just joined last month my problem is drafting and dividing , anyway thank you much love from Uganda
