Ok so I have had mine for a few months now and initially I wasn't 100% sold on it until I really started trying all sorts of different signal types...Im not a huge granular guy but something like the Miso Cornflakes into this beauty is absolutely endlessly cool. Its can be anything from a little blip to an entire soundscape thats moving and breathing as its patched. Its a keeper.
That no input jam was very blissful and so was the pinging. Serge and pinging never fail to amaze. Thank you for doing this Serge stuff with passion, style and heart.
I'll be receiving mine next week. I've been in doubt because of the Erica Synths Resonant FB with tons of automation but decided to go for the VC because the true beauty is in the tiny little knob tweaks and the crosspatching. And it's a Serge. Love your video! I guess mine will be more focused on cinematic textures so it's cool to have different views on the same gear. Serge is a legend and I am so happy he's still designing modules as we speak.
Stazma, toujours aussi cool, un artiste génial qui prend pas la grosse tete, pédagogue, ca fait plaisir ! Merci pour tes présentations/tips, tu geres ! Big up !!
I'd love to hear this against a non-smd version of the res eq. It does sound nice though, VC is very interesting, but definitely different then my DIY'ed Res EQ (with big and some NOS styro caps for all bands). Nice sounds and patches as usual!
@ don’t know. There’s some comparisons between ceramic, mica and styro caps using the same opamps. To my ears, there’s a huge difference in sound between those. But, that can only be confirmed with a real comparison.
cool review !!! I got the VC Poly Resonator in the end, much less bell whistles but full of character. Sounds super cool when feeding external synth into ti. you should try to do a review one day ! :-)
Great demo and sounds. I especially love the pinging. So much character in those pings. I saw your spectral processor shootout the other day. How would you compare 296t/bark filter in comparisson when it comes to pinging and feedback character? The RS seems to sound much rawer and can screem. Maybe because of the wider filter bands?
Yes these are very different, only the Serge ping so well probably because it’s designed with feedback and resonance in mind while the Buchla are more focused on spectral reconstruction / vocoding
How would you compare the sound? The bands are the same I think, but that's not the full picture of course. I'd miss individual outputs, but I've been very interested in the Erica one....
Sonically they’re very similar - they have the same frequency bands and the same basic signal path (as far as I can tell). The main differences are the Erica has digital control over everything so there are lots of other modes, like the multi-mode filter emulations, S&H and shift register-type CV control, dynamic EQ etc. You can store presets/snapshots and clock through them. It also has CV over feedback (and you can select which bands are routed into the feedback path), but it only has one input. The really big difference on the R*S side is that it has individual outputs for each band, and physical attenuverters for the CV inputs (plus it’s bigger and a lot more expensive - it does look and sound gorgeous though!)
I don’t think there’s any comparison when it comes to Erica Synths stuff vs something like Random Source and they’re high quality no compromises analog approach.
The sound of the new RS Serge stuff is really impressive and unique. I was sampling my GTO and was really interested in the way the waveforms looked. It was if they were compressed. There was lots of sonic variation but no crazy peaks. Anyone have opinion or explanation on this?
I used to like Random Source a few years ago when they did kits you could get for a good price. Nowdays I think they are way too expencive for what you get
I agree it's not cheap but on the other hand I think they sound exeptional, way better than most other modulars, but this is very subjective as well I guess.
@@Stazma Agree on the sound, it's pure quality. I'd love to have a full set of Serge sometime. Also love the TipTop Buchla modules, so much cool stuff you can do with it. Like you, I've also placed the Serge and Buchla stuff together in my Eurorack. Thanks anyway for all your great demos!
RS isn't the only manufacturer, no matter their efforts. Elby is still making kits/modules and their price is very on point. You can assemble your own custom banana system to your liking.

This is so fun! I’d love to see you do more experimentation like this with atlas as well!
Finally a proper demo for this! Thanks ❤
Great demo as usual sir!
Many thanks ;-)

Merci à toi
The vocoder patch sounds awesome!
Love this. what a beast

I think the OpAmp used will have a bigger effect on the sound than the caps though.

Would love to try this one as well, I love simpler Bandpass resonators as well, I use Qpas or Atlas by Vostok quite a bit for this application
@@Stazma hehe you could always ask the folks at Random Sorces :-)
@ sure but I’d prefer to get to try the Medusa first ;-)

oh yes
Great video! I would love to have one of these! but got the regular one and the new erica one

Hell yeah trop kewl!
Looking forward to this! I'd love to see a comparison with the new Erica FB... Am I wrong in thinking that they are pretty similar?
Check out DIvkid's & Tom Churchill's demos of the Erica FB

*their
The Erika eq is on my shopping list!
So this can turn up and down the volume of a single band in a eq?
It’s a 12 band eq with voltage controlled gain for each band

Can’t explain but indeed it all sound awesome

R*S are high quality modules that sound unique. That kind thing costs money.
