When my husband and I moved to the country we lost friends due to distance. When we had children we lost friends who said we were too many people visiting. 35 years later we have no friends, distant relations with relatives and find ourselves lonely. But our children are adults now telling people their childhood was amazing filled with animals, reading books, going on adventures, playing outside and eating homemade meals. THIS was all worth it! Our homestead will be passed down, great grandma’s cookbook will be shared and the love of our family will be a testament of how we chose to intentionally expose God’s love to all who witness.

next time Justin, empty out the water first and use the still water( as if the rain lets it) in the trough, to was the concrete. then after a wash with the hose the concrete would be nice and clean - and you are ready to fill the trough with fresh clean water no straws, flung poo and so on. best of wishes from Denmark

I have had to fight loneliness. My husband works mostly nights and sleeps during the day. So I have learned how to be alone. My family all live far away. My dogs are great companions. We have no social life because I hate going places alone because he is sleeping. I read and work in my garden and watch people like you and others.

I’m 23 and have 30 something chickens. I feel lonely sometimes because all the people my age I know aren’t even interested in chickens or farming. It makes me feel lonely but then I find older people who love and keep chickens. I learn from them and find friendships with them. Also, having 190 eggs every 3 weeks doesn’t make me feel so lonely lol

I follow many homesteads on YT and when I get an answer to my question or words of encouragement in the comment section by other viewers - or the RUclipsr - it helps me keep going because I feel validated in my decision to homestead. My family isn't convinced I can do it, but my community does, and sometimes that is all it takes.

Lonely is when you are in a bad relationship drowning in despair....lonely is when you have no one that understands your quest to live off the grid...lonely is when your children are too busy to give you a little time even thou you’re always there for them....lonely is when your golden years are tarnished with no hope....🥲

What would make a few great short videos, asking each of your kiddos how they envision their homestead in the future, what would they 'add', what would they 'change' or eliminate (animals, grounds, trees, water, plants, machinery, etc.)....... & what they envision 'their' future on/at the homestead. Just a thought.

To add to my comment yesterday, your Grandpa built that barn. You paid someone to build the one you are leaving to your kids. Its different and I hope you are understanding. Don't insulate yourself from the process. If you don't have the necessary experience learn it. People have enjoyed your previous content because it was you doing the work. When you can say "look what I'm building" and not "look what I'm having someone else build." You would also be teaching your kids trade skills they will use all of their lives. See you tomorrow.

As an introvert who has small social batteries, this still seems extremely appealing. 😅 I'm not confident I could deal with larger livestock like sheep and cows, but being busy at home caring for our food and property really does seem like a better more meaningful lifestyle. Thank you for sharing with us!

Our eldest son was naturally very solitary. He automatically thrived in the homesteading life. Our youngest son had a very rough time. We definitely reached out to different groups and activities to feed his need to be around people, which our eldest will begrudgingly participate in. Our youngest daughter doesn’t remember not being on our land, and just kind of goes with the flow.

Having lived this rural farm/homesteading life my whole life(50+years) I have seen the shift from large families and communities where you live to a virtual experience as families become smaller and more spread out and community has dwindled. It just proves that connectedness is a need that humanity must have to thrive. Personally I feel this new rendition of community is better in many ways because you can choose to have contact with like minded folks verses just being stuck with who you’re born with.

Loneliness is a big topic. At 73, I turned that on the 13th, I get lonely once or twice a day. Now I am content with myself. Yes, I have a husband, we don't like the same things and since our daughter died we don't talk much. It is lonely. Here, on RUclips, I find like-minded people with whom I can share and learn. That, is important, very important. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe.
PS: I want to snuggle with Stud Muffin. I love bulls folks. I have since I was 8 or so.

OH MY DARLING, you hit the nail on the head!!! THIS is exactly why I subscribe to you and Justin, and to a few others that I see interacting on this channel. I feel like I'm right there with you all. I learn so much, and enjoy what I'm watching and learning with every video. I wish I was able to homestead, but I do not have the means, land wise or physically, but through you all, I can enjoy it. I have a small plot of garden outside that I grow flowers for infusing oils for my upcoming soap making. I also grow some sweet peppers inside in my spare bedroom... we call it my indoor garden, LOL. Being disable, I have to do what I can while my body allows it, right???

We moved March 2020 to a new state to a bigger farm, following a job. Then the job quit. Then everything shut down with the virus. We've visited the few churches open but no one tries to connect though we keep trying. We homeschool our last kid also and haven't found a group to join because again, they shut down with the virus and stopped advertising get-togethers. Hubby works long hours away from our farm with whatever new job comes along. And we all are incredibly lonely and isolated. We can't seem to find anyone to connect with in our area. We're rural enough evidently that there's not even much of an online community that we've been able to find. It's extra hard as hubby and daughter are very extroverted and can usually make friends with everyone. Lol? One of our prayer requests for the last year has been to make good Godly friends at our new home, but so far it's gone unanswered. Lonely, isolated.... Yep, we understand all too well.

Pigs will eat them, don't have to run pigs in those pastures, just have the kids gather up buckets of nuts and give it to them as treats. When the apple trees start to produce u could look into bees and get a little honey out of it too.
