The box mounting holes are likely so thin you can just tap on the screw and break them out. I've mounted several outdoor lights where that worked.
That center hole in the box outline looks threaded for a cable clamp, which means if you don't have a box you could get a threaded plug for a water resistant box (on the electrical aisle, but maybe a plumbing plug would work just not fit flush).
