- From Schmelzer's collection Sacro-Profanus Concentus Musicus (Nuremberg, 1662), the six-part sonata No. 4 in A Minor. Live, HD Video from the Early Music ensemble Voices of Music, performed on original instruments, from the "Bach, Biber & Buxtehude" concert, 2013.
In 1662, Schmelzer published a collection of music for string ensemble, or strings with trumpets, trombones and cornettos in various combinations, with organ continuo. The music is especially rich and dense, a marked contrast to the more Italianate sonatas from book of solo violin music, Sonatae Unarum Fidium (see our video here www.youtube.com....

Who could have possibly "downvoted" this wonderful performance of this gem? The Voices of Music is a great ensemble that, among other things, possesses something many other ensembles playing music of that period lack: a homogeneity and beauty of sound, often forgotten in the quest for "authenticity".
No biggie :)
They all play such beautiful instruments. Thank God they survived all these years and there are still people building replicas.
A VERY RICH AND DEEP SOUND, FILLING THE SOUL WITH PEACE AND HARMONY.
Agree! Thank you.
Schmelzer is an amazing composer, providing a perfect platform to be creative with. I love your Schmelzer.
If you are not listening every morning to the many and varied iterations of VOM then you are missing out. Oh my.
Magnificent ensemble, Elizabeth Blumenstok as allways a great interpreter of the baroque repertoire.
Amazing to hear those baroque instruments sing!

I love you guys! You are the best... I need to buy more of your performances!
Have to admit I'd never expect I'd say this, seeing as how I like my baroque aggressive, but this is a beautiful performance - suave, stylish, especially the continuo.
Magnifico Ensemble ! Complimenti dall'Italia !
Great performance !!
Eccellente! Tanti complimenti.
Bravissimi!!
Brilliant!!!
Did anybody notice the slight elbow jolt delivered by the second violinist to the first violiolinist's shoulder at about 4:36, and the sly smiles after?
Elizabeth is such an expressive violinist!
Excelente la ejecución de este grupo musical Voices of Music, es música barroca con reales instrumentos barrocos , perfecto !!
Beautiful!
Thank you!
Absolutely Grand! A Violinist that actually wrote his music For the string players. Idiomatic, rich, dense, pure, passionate and quirky.
Why bother with that Johann Sebastian,... what's his name?
Exquisite performance!
The epitome of performance.
Thank you.
რა სიზღაპრე ეპოქაა, რა სილამაზეა
