These Th-74 videos have been a fantastic resource! When I got into HAM radio all the digital stuff was almost non-existent, and even operating the TH-74 was like rocket science. Thanks Don!
I also need to thank you for this. I just got my TH-D74 yesterday. Already had a pi-star hot spot but have never used DSTAR before. You got me to the point where I can experiment and have fun. Oh, the TH-D74 is an amazing radio!!
How about starting the video out with explaining what a ZumSpot is and why someone would want to get one and what you can do with it. I have just gotten into Amateur radio, purchased a TH-D74 but have no idea what a ZumSpot it. Still don’t.
Tnx Don for all the FB RUclips videos. My Zumspot is connected and and pi-star is configured. I figured out and have programed my D74 reflectors. All seemed ok except I have lost my announcements and lost all listening audio. Noticed my Zum not responding to D74. Zum OLED scrolls normally and listening. Ideas? W7MWR
I have followed all the instructions on here but just can't get my D74 to transmit on my DVMega hotspot. It works fine on my openspot 3 and all the settings seem to be the same , but I can receive Dstar but can't transmit and just can't figure out why it isn't working. HELP!
Two questions: 1. When you reboot the Pi-Star, you go to the home wifi and the Pi-Star Dashboard. There seems to be a step missing. What URL did you use to get the Dashboard to appear? 2. When the Pi-Star reboots and announces the I-C reflector, the name "ZumMobile" appears on the D-74 display. Where did that name come from? Is it something you inputted into the Pi-Star configuration but did not show on camera?
The Zumspot in my my mind is the Raspi and Zum Radio board together. But you are correct GPIO is the only connection and there is no wifi on the Zum Radio Board.
Don, what I want to know is this, while using the ZUMspot, if I wanted to change reflectors, be them DCS, REF or XRF, I won't have to go into the Pi-Star dashboard, just use the "Use reflector" menu on the radio?
Hi Don, Do you know if it's possible to completely program the TH-D74 d*star DR mode from the keypad? Everything from selecting the frequency, rtp1, rtp2, ur, etc.?
Yes it will be a subject for a new video hold down bottom arrow belowENTfor 3 seconds. get to the city level then hit menu there isa edit button. and add button hit ADD then you can make entry
***** PLEASE UPDATE this video, and clearly explain that one MUST be in VFO mode to get the D74 in DR mode. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING is in the manual about that, and your video doesn't mention it either. This took me hours to figure out, and I can't be the nly one. I have operated DStar for nearly two years with the D74 via DVAP Dongle where I had that freq in memory. Consequently, I thought I could put the Zumspot frequency in memory. WRONG. I thought my firmware had been whacked. Kenwood is specifically and horrifically to blame for not ONE WORD in the manual about HOW DR mode is ONLY accessible in VFO mode.
I think you should have spelled out raspberry and many will probably leave out the "P" which will lead to hours of frustration. Also once you set up the initial info on the configuration you should have hit apply before you moved to the next section in D Star. You should hit apply when you makes changes to a section before moving on to another section. You just setting up others to experience a lot of frustration. And the node should have been private and not pubic. And you did not complete the display type! You have a gift for doing things half way.

Thank you, Don. You've saved this D*Star newbie a lot of time with the learning curve. 73' -Keith
Thanks Don - the demo of DR mode was very useful - 73 Paul

great information, I went ahead and programmed the radio via bluetooth directly. Had to reflash the card 3x to get the config right.
Thanks for recording this! It was a great primer to get started. N1VDA
How would you save this hotspot (ZUM Pi-Star) in D75? I can't get mine to work!

How do I get my openspot2 to stop saying connected to 14C or any other one over and over using d74
I followed your steps Don and in memory 21* it shows up but I can not see it in World Region Select! Any advice?

Once it connects to your local network connect your computer to the same network. Then navigate to the same pi-star.local url
Thanks for the video Don. My ZumSpot should arrive soon so this will be helpful. Daryl VK3MCB
What do I need to set for the display to work. Mine just has a bunch of grey dots all over it can't read anything?

Wait so... the ZumSpot and the Raspi talk to each other via Wifi? I thought it was all through the GPIO ports?

@@w6gps ah I didn't know that. Thanks

the radio controls the reflectors. you can set a default reflector in pi-star.
Any idea if you can change YSF reflectors from the radio too? I can’t seem to find that answer anywhere.
thank you for this video KC1JQX just purchased this radio going to order this device

I had the same problem. Beat my head against the wall for hours until I figured it out too.
Great video Thanks Don. Frank KM4ZRT
