  • The XC60 is back for 2018 with its first ever complete redesign. We spend some time on the twisty country roads of Vancouver Island to see what it's made of.
Correction: Cargo space behind the second row is 504 litres.

Since I'm in a market for a used car now, this video actually reminded me that even the previous generation of XC60 was great. New one is still miles better, of course. And good to know that here in Canada standard equipment is so good in this vehicle.

Great review as always, Paul. This car is very good, but is very expensive -here in Europe.

I really enjoy your reviews, and appreciate the family-oriented perspective. Any chance you'll be reviewing a Jeep Compass in the near future? It's in the same class as many of your other reviews, it would be interesting to see your take.

    We have: 2009 S80 3.2, 2018 V60 Cross Country, and 2018 XC60 T8 Inscription. Perfect for the PNW.

Currently driving the ‘22 XC60 B6 in snowy/rainy Vancouver, review coming this month. And check last month for the excellent V90 Cross Country. Thanks for watching!

Turbosuperchargers, not just for world war 2 piston aircraft anymore... Ask yourself why no one else touched this tech for 70 years. Another great review Paul. I would personally pick the Q5 because the VW dual clutch gearbox is just so good. For those of us who want AWD and a stick, any chance you can do the Mini Countryman S ALL4 and the new JL Wrangler?

Thanks. I hope you review the Volvo wagons as well. I'd appreciate your input on own V70 as well as V60/90 series.

Are these reliable on the used market?

  • @swanblake

Paul, do you know how the early Volvo XC90s twin charged engines have held up? I can't believe that a turbo and supercharged 4 cylinder can be reliable for more than the warranty length. Curious if you've heard anything on this point?

Blake Swan Neither Volvo nor Chinese carmakers are known for mechanical engineering skills. This is the first gen power train from a new engineering team under a new owner. Early XC90 T8s were atrociously unreliable. It's an awful lot of boost for a small displacement engine in a large car (read: frequent demand for high power output).

Ficon thank you. That was my feelings as well but wanted to confirm with data. These really seem like a reliability nightmare, especially the T8 hybrid

The reliability for the new xc90 has been horrible. Hopefully they’ve fixed all the issues for this new XC60.

    • @Ficon
      @Ficon 6 лет назад

wasabi9111 Doubt it. Volvo reliability is a myth from the 1980s 240 era. If Ford couldn't fix quality and reliability issues during their ownership, it's delusional to think that Geely would. Same deal as Jaguar/Land Rover and Tata.
The turbosupercharger setup is a red flag at lack of engineering expertise or R&D resources. I bet the supercharger is added in T6 (300 up) engines because they couldn't get rid of turbo lag that naturally comes with that much boost.

The supercharger is, in fact, added to compensate for the turbocharger lag. However, once on it’s way, it cuts off.

I didn't really find the interior to be that amazing when I sat in one at a dealership. It was too simplified for me personally. I still like some hard buttons for things I'd use often.

"It will be hybrid or bust for Volvo" - Considering that (in the US) their T8 hybrid is a whopping US $20K more than T6, I guess it will be bust.

Um, you do know that Volvo is launching the T5 and T6 plug-in hybrid in late 2018/early 2019, right?

I was talking about present-day reality, not future plans. I thought the word "is" would give it away. Still, if they do that, that's good.

In Sweden the T8 is selling like crazy, there's a 9-10 months wait to get one.

fragge I just bought a used XC60 AWD T6. I love it so much! A big step up from my 1998 XC70. I cant afford a new Volvo, so I have to buy used. I definitely cant afford the hybrid Volvo.

Agreed, 40% more for a meager 10% difference in efficiency seems steep

we went out to try some volvos and in person.. it's kind of underwhelming. The BMWx3 we tried had a far better interior than the xc60
