70db fan noise? Never heard any fan that loud even in the very cheapest projectors. Others who have reviewed Vankyos put them in the low to high 50s. That sounds right because 75 db, on my phone ap says that is LOUD MUSIC levels, lol. I don't think you mean this. Otherwise. There were a phenomenal number of Vankyo look alikes by all manner of other companies in the last year or two. All, pretty good for the $200-$250 entry level 1080p projector, and now, most are in the sub $200-such as the Jiimtab M18, the UUO P6 and others. I just bought one of these on closeout, the Bomaker Parrot 1 for $100 (or is the Vankyo 630 a clone of the Bomaker-the Bomaker case is similar but the keystone and focus wheel are on the side and the function buttons are vertically arranged rather than horizontal-but otherwise the I/Os on the Parrot 1 and the 630 are exaclty the same, in the same places). Now that IS cheap! Can't complain. For a Benjamin new, nothing can touch this. Can you do better? Sure, buy a DLP projector for $500+. As for me, I'm not going there for now. Another two years and we'll have 4K in this market range! Nice review! Yeah, the focus wheels leave something to be desired. I think these units are closer to 300 ANSI lumens or a little more? 5 watt speaker is very good for what it is. Color is decent for a cheap projector. Brightness? Good for DARK ROOMS on a very flat white wall or, a good quality screen. A GREAT INTRO to projectors. Will wet the appetite for us novices! Enjoy your reviews!
Thanks. Glad you like my reviews. The 70db is what i measured in my unit. Every unit is unique. It could be very specific to that unit. But, i agree that's way too loud for a projector. I usually tell people to use a bluetooth speaker (BT transmitter if projector isn't bluetooth). That way you can place speaker/soundbar near the screen and not have to worry about fan noise.
