ECOWAS, its time to step up and lead. Africans now urgently need leadership to unite and resolve their problems for themselves!! Too much external meddling. For too long the region has been fractured and exploited by external forces.Going forward, swapping one external exploitative power for the next is not the answer. Time to have your own solutions. ECOWAS should lead with and implement home grown strategies for regional economic, security and defense initiatives. This is an opportune moment, seize the initiative and lead.
When corrupt leaders with nothing to offer force themselves on citizens by hook and crook means. They should be removed by any means. There is no moment to seize by all the klepto-hypocrites at the meeting. They should know that the same outcome awaits them if they continue to mis-manage their resources.
Is it preferable a corrupt democracy that sells off the nation's resources and leaves the people in poverty and hunger, or is it preferable a military dictatorship that seeks to change things, make the nation sovereign and recover dignity?
It is curious how the West applauded the coup against Yanukovych but instead condemns the one against Barzoum, clearly wanted by the people there too, judging by the angry popular demonstration of Nigeriens in front of the French embassy.
This attitude of judging by expediency is called a *double standard* and is why, rightly so, non-Western nations make fun of the US and Europe.

I am however DISSAPOINTED with the subject and OUTCOME of the meeting.
Use of inflammatory words and threats undermines any attempt to solve the epedemic of coups and wars on West Africa or Africa.
Focusing on the REAL REASONS for these coups and how to but STRATEGIES to stop them would have been much more positive outcome.
I am afraid, if you follow up with military approach you re DOOM to fail.

As a Nigerian, i have seen and known enough to speak on this. For surly, so much has in recent times contributed to this, but the camels back truly broke after you Mr President took a good action in a bad way.
Subsidy removal was indeed a right move but the entire concept around its implementation delt a heavy blow on the Nigerian nation and her people.. But it was never just a Nigerian problem as the economic climate of the entire region is closely interwoven. The region is one heavily dependent on petrol, most of which is sourced from the Nigerian fuel import. With the rising prices of the product, the standard of living took a bloody hit and its end result was never going to be funny.
As earlier stated, the removal of subsidy on fuel in Nigerian is a brave move with long-term positive effects. However, without preemptive actions to cushion the effect, the people were being setup to walk through hell. And if this very product has the entire region dependent of its supply from Nigeria, the region was only sentenced to what ever comes.....and well, here we are. Instead of getting on TV to simulate leadership, you should be on the drawing board.....working to find a remedy.
You insulted Nigerians by stating you'd have 8,000NGN (eight thousand naira) disbursed to each home, so I ask....what could 8k possibly do for a family of 5? Tell me......what could it achieve....and how do you even begin?....
