- No matter what side of the political divide you’re on, I believe most of us can agree on one thing - Amanda Gorman, the first National Youth Poet Laureate and the youngest person to write and recite a poem at a presidential inauguration STOLE the show and our healing hearts.
Social media went bananas over the rising 22-year-old wordsmith (after her speech, I immediately followed her on Instagram @amandascgorman, which has skyrocketed from one million to 2.7 million followers). My beloved circle of friends and family couldn’t stop chattering about how eloquent, captivating, inspiring and impressed they were with her 2021 Presidential Inauguration speech, “The Hill We Climb.”
There are too many reasons to list why the world fell in love with her words and her story. Here are some thoughts as I had tea and did a little writing and reflecting in my reading nook today.

“We've seen a force that would shatter our nation
rather than share it”.
“And the norms and notions
of what just is
isn't always just-ice”.
These were the two lines that stuck with me. She is such a breath of fresh air.
Amanda, stop me in my tracks when she called to the podium to read her poem. First I was impressed with her coat, then her beautiful face. Once started the poem I was in awe by enunciation of her words, hand movements and confidence. I love her poem. The way she delivered poem brought to mind Maya Angelou whom I loved to listen too when she recited her poems. This young lady will be a great gift to this country.
It becomes even more impressive to me that she used to be a special Ed student with a speech impediment.
@@teresaamanfu7408 She was not a special ed student, though she did have a speech impediment
@@teresaamanfu7408 she had a speech impediment couldn’t pronounce r’s she’s always been smart.
this is the first time in my life that a person reading a poem has affected infected infiltrated my soul like this, I cried
Amanda's presentation was such a surprise. Amazingly, the audience became quiet and listened. She captured our attention with what she read and how she read it. This is the sign of a great poet.
If we merge mercy with might,
and might with right,
then love becomes our legacy
and change our children's birthright
"We've learned that quiet isn't always peace". For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them. 1 Thessalonians 5: 3. We all witnessed the forces of destruction on Jan 6.
Amanda has been described as a supernova. That is an apt descritpion. "Old Soul" doesn't even cover it. The wisdom of the ages is embodied in this young woman. It's like watching MLK or Maya Angelou. But even beyond that. Such power, Presence, confidence, and eloquence. Thank you for your video. :)
The whole presentation was a 10. The songs, the hostess, Biden, Harris and Amanda Gorman with an historic message for humanity. Offering hope, urging activism and sharing much needed love. That was an anointed promise in person.
I've never been a fan of poetry but this one really touched me. "And the norms and notions of what just is isn't just-ice" Powerful!!!!!!
She spoke words that filled a hole in me, I did not know I needed.
My part was two places the first saying that America isn't broken just unfinished Brilliant. And also where she says yes we are far from polished far from pristine but that doesn't mean we are striving to form a union that is perfect,we are striving to form a union WITH PURPOSE. GENIUS MIND BLOWING.
heart felt passion towards unity...words is mightier than the swords
Being 78 i felt Amanda was so authentic! And authenticity crabs me deep down! Thát’s how she is, no acting. There is no second to her individuality. Impossible. (From Holland)
She touched my soul !!!
Amanda empowers me at 68 years old makes me feel so much better and beautiful
Imagine how amazing she’ll be in 2038 running for President, it’s something to look forward to. 🥰
You are so true. I have not heard anything like this before!
You got the chills I got the tears dat fell from my eyes nd I didn't know why I cried. Emotional
I cried also but I know why. Our Country is a mess. I am older and I have never seen such desperation. Nor did I realize the number of racist in our country. It makes me very sad.
As a student of literature lover of poems I am in awe I cry every time I listen to her Brilliance
Amanda's message was so overpowering for me because it provided much needed relief for a constant build up of anxiety that has been growing for years, particularly the last four. This enormous uneasy feeling seemed to peak on January the 6th up until hearing Amanda's words. It was at that moment that my perspective changed, the anxiety faded away, and hopefulness returned, an amazing feat that not my mother's soothing voice, clergy, friends, or even prayer seemed able to accomplish.
Amanda's poem was so captivating.... it was very humble, transparent, hopeful, strong, encouraging .... and simply awesome!!!
She was reciting and before you know it I was not distracted. I was listen. Next I realize I was read about America past, present, and future. I heard about healing and hope. I cried tears of joy it was so moving. Beautiful done BRAVO🤗🤗👏🏾👏🏾🙏🏾
I cannot stop listening to her beautiful and inspirational poem... She IS the Beacon Of Hope, our Lady Liberty... The choas and darkness that we have been in the past 4 years...the level and reminder of Daily hate was sooo toxic!!! Amanda has reminded US that WE the People of the United States, Are United by Our Diversity, that the Construction of this Nation was under the basis that ALL Man IS created EQUAL.... That we are still climbing the hill and cannot quit, until WE complete what Our Forefathers have Declared. That WE, as U remind and empower us...WE must "BE the Light"... Amanda Thank U for your Beautiful GIFT that u bestowed to the NATION ... To the World...I Love U as I Love DR. Maya Angelou. Thank U ...U ARE my HERO💖
I kept watching her over and over that at this point I can mimic her hand gestures as I recite it along side her video
Funny but sooo true, many of us too. We, all, ready to recite at the next inauguration. 😉
She is unbelievably brilliant. 😍
I’ve listened to it 7X already ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
i have spent a little time thinking about the phrase, in her poem, "brave enough to see it." I easily realized the validity of that phrase AND how important it is. Many times in our lives and in the life of this nation, we deny reality because we cannot face the truth. Bravery is required for us to see and admit to ourselves what's true when that truth doesn't make you feel well. Many people cannot say (because they don't feel empowered, or because they fear some unfavorable consequences) that the king does not have any clothes on -- like in the children's story. So many of our elected officials will align themselves to an obvious lie, selling their soul, to gain some favor. With this sale they compromise their self-esteem,, self-respect, and their mental health. The sad part is that clear lies can become a permanent delusions if a person or nation cannot become brave enough to face reality. What was the movie -- where Jack Nicholson said, "You can't handle the truth!". Oh I just looked it up -- "A Few Good Men". This is a powerful statement about how we live our lives in denial and with all the inaction that comes with it. I feel that Amanda is saying we can come out of the shade into the light, that we are all capable of seeing if we are brave, and that we can come to understand that if we act well that we have become brave enough to be the light (for others to see, and for our children to grow in).
You covered all the bases with your wise, intuitive and gracious perception.
Whenever I would listen to Amanda I would get tears in my eyes those were tears of joy
I was captivated by Amanda's poem because I knew what she is being through after this few years. After you think it all ended we see the insurrection. It hurts our ❤️ to see the White House or the Capitol building being abused and then you think what's next. We have never seen it in this country in our lifetime; it was devastating and hopeless as a black people I knew what was going on with her.
I loved it she's confident engaging and as a poet she's has a way of putting there in that space. I felt the Unity all throughout the poem. It was awe inspiring
You are sooooo fan boy(ing) and I’m so here for it 🥰
Amanda Gorman inspired a Nation...
Beautiful Poem
I have listened to her poem several timez
Toan Lam, I also was watching “all things Amanda Gorman”, I one of the programs that I watched yesterday that while she was being interviewed, she admitted (in all humbleness) one her friends said that with with all due respect to President Biden that “President Biden opened for Amanda Gorman”. I apologize for not knowing the exact source.
Toan, You did a wonderful job of discussing the moment that Amanda captured. I also stayed up late reading and watching her previous poem posts. She is remarkable and has shown yet again it takes a village to grow a vision.
I have been very focused on this political situation and she gave me a dream to look forward to her and our future.
Great analysis. I enjoyed it .
Marvelous speaker! Beautiful Chocolate girl👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
That too was my favorite line
My first reaction. Who is this Little girl on Biden inaugural podium giving a Sermon? I am sold. Go to Harvard law school . Become a senator. Become a Vice President. And then ....
OMG I love you - not in a creepy way lol Loved your excitement for Amanda. -
it was Jill Biden who made the invite for Amanda Gorman to recite a poem on Joe Biden’s inauguration.
It was a politcal watershed there was before AG and after.
