For other Americans, I find a good way to remember is one meter is about a yard, and a kilometer is 1000 meters, so a kilometer probably somewhere around 1000 yards (could most likely get some math to back me up but I’m lazy). And a mile is 1760 yards. So a kilometer is shorter than a mile.
