Exploring Stunning Public Lands- What We Found Will Shock You!

  • This week's video I stayed close to home. I'm taking you to a forest that's 30 miles from my driveway. I haven't spent a lot of time camping in these woods. I've lived here my whole life, yet I've explored it very little. Something about this place is unsettling. It has its own energy.
    Speaking of that, my Go-pro batteries were getting sucked down super-fast all weekend. Maybe it's a coincidence, maybe there is something more to this forest.
    This recreation land is better known for having top class mountain bike trails, and that has brought back life to this small town. It has gone through a complete transition since the 90's. I have ridden thousands of miles on those trails.....yet rarely go into the part of the forest you saw this weekend. Saturday morning, I stopped at a few businesses in town. I had to pick up some gear for the weekend. When I asked about dispersed camping up in the mines I was told " I wouldn't go out there". They pointed me to a State Forest that is known for having safe dispersed camping.
    There may be a few people who don't like what I have pointed out near their homes or cabins in what they call "Gods County". But the struggles that are delt with in the big cities are also faced here. I'm not trying to capitalize on a hot topic or make light of the situation. I'm just sharing my weekends exactly how I experience them. I really appreciate you following along on my adventures.
    Don't forget to check out "Jack of all Trades", Ed sent me the fire starters along with a few other gifts.
    youtube.com/@j...
    Ed does a lot of how to and review videos for outdoor living, fishing rod building, ATV repair, home projects, knife making, personal protection, and even automotive repairs. He is the Jack of all trades.

      It really takes so little to bag up what can't be burned in the campfire. I don't get why people feel the need to trash good areas. I live near the Niagara escarpment and used to camp in the same spot in there every year, a few times a year. Seemed other people used that spot too, problem is, they'd leave their busted axles there instead of taking them to the junkyard with the rest of the car, along with mountains of other trash. I'd make 4 special trips up to the spot per summer just to do a cleanup and burn. After 2 years of me not going there anymore, the place got closed off. I can only imagine what it looks like back there now

      @@KennyOfAllTrades it really is, but what's worse is the same people who trash the free places so they get closed off are the ones who will complain about having to pay $70/night to camp in an established park. I feel like asking them what they expect when they wreck all the crown land they used before

      @@Closdmon I heat ya there. I live in a tourist town with a very large beach. When it's just us locals here, the shoreline stays clean. As soon as the people come up from the city, garbage literally rolls in the breeze here, and it's not due to a shortage of cans along the beachfront and in the parks. They just don't want to walk 10 feet to dispose of it properly

    Thank you so much for cleaning up after someones lapse in character. I am 75 years old and I live in Eastern Washington State. I was raised by a man that belonged to a group of men that packed minnow fish into lakes in the North Cascade Mountains in Washington. He used to tell stories of seeing messes like what you've found and it really used to hurt him. He and his friends would pack it up and bring it home and put it out for our garbage man. Have a good time camping and be careful.

    This week your video came with an amazing message. Kenny you're a good man. I remember as a kid we belonged to a camping group that was part of The National Campers & Hikers Association (NCHA). Our group of campers did conservation events like trash pick ups, tree plantings, river clean ups, built pic-nic tables for parks & many other projects as a large group. I'm so grateful for being taught as a kid that nature & the forests are to be respected, cared for & enjoyed. I just wish everyone was taught things like I was. Our world would be a much nicer to be in. Keep being the good guy you are because it does make a difference. 😊❤

      That sounds like a wonderful club. It's too bad I don't hear of those groups around here anymore. I was part of a group all through high school. It was called the Natural Resources Club. We would do school sponcered weekend trips. (Icefishing, hunting, camping, and community events with the FFA) During summer break, we would go on a two week Portage in the Boundary Waters. It helped cement my love for the outdoors. It's important to have those groups for the younger generations.

    Hi. That sound that you thought sounded like a baby crying might be a screech owl. I have a really amazing video of five owlets that come to my balcony every night for weeks and hopped around the railing. The balcony was up on the second floor and in the cedars. They got accustomed to me and would not fly off if I stepped out and talked while I took the videos. Amazing moments for me.

    Remember years ago a commercial on TV about a Native American looking at some trash on the side of a road and you see a tear coming down his cheek? What do you think if he saw that trash? Here in New Hampshire we have weekend cleaning parties where volunteers with trucks clean up certain areas in the forest. Sad to say but, maybe closing Areas to vehicles is the best idea so us people who respect nature can enjoy it and not be afraid to go there. Even the beavers are trying to close the place by dropping trees across the road. You're a good man and I love you're video's. ❤❤❤🎃🎃🎃

    Bless you for caring about the beautiful land we have the priviledge of sharing with others. It is such a shame that people can't respect it more. There's a state park about an hour from our small town and I used to love going there. My niece and I were there about a month ago and I just wanted to grieve for what used to be. We used to sit on a picnic table and watched the ducks, beautiful birds I hadn't seen before, see which goose is going to chase me this time and watch all the babies that were starting their lives there. It wasn't the same and we were told they didn't have the resources to take care of it as well anymore. Don't people care enough to get some groups together and volunteer to help do what needs to be done? Maybe even just once a month? I would have tried to do some cleaning as you were good enough to do too but now I am 70 years old and toting a pacemaker so don't feel so confident in that kind of work anymore. Everything worth having is worth working at. That was such a beautiful area you were in and even better after you left it. 👍

Once a year they do a big clean up in Sutton Alaska - I picked up everything you found and more - it is amazing what people will toss out like that. My heart breaks for the homeless - there is much more to it than just drugs - there are deep root issues. I tell people it is OUR job to clean up behind others - as clearly the others don't and won't. I keep an extra 50 gal back and picker uppers with me when we camp for that reason . as a young guy between the ages of 7 and 36 you would never believe the places i got up to alone or with friends. NO WHERE, southern Labrador. Goose Bay RCAF base, left over from ww2 Ferry Command. wild place, hadn't changed since the glaciers melted. we thought absolutely nothing being there as kids and even adults in all seasons and all manner of storms - snow, thunder and rain... we loved it. pushing 60 with a minor heart attack and type 2 diabetes under my belt now i would hesitate. also, the more remote as kids the more we liked it but now i am too aware the deeper into the woods i go along old logging trails, paths the more likely i am to meet up with people who probably don't have my best interests in mind, at least in my neck of the woods.
    the outdoors is to be enjoyed to the fullest but the litter is unacceptable. leave as small a footprint on the land as possible. best wishes!

    Thank you for show beautiful Minnesota. I grew up in the country there and enjoyed the lakes and going to the cabin deep in the woods. But that was 50 years ago, so thanks you for helping to keep her clean. I hope to go back with a awesome camper and stay a few weeks fishing for walleye, lake trout, bass and northern.

    Kenny, I think your sound is either a Bobcat or Cougar.
    That is so disgusting on how that site was left. My $ contribution please use to help on supply's. Maybe more contractor trash bags or save your back with what us old codgers call a grabber! Lol. Very admirable how you take care of these sites. Our Sheriff's Dept. has a inmate work program. Guys that are in for commitments or petty stuff have a opportunity to get out in a work crew and do projects like this clean up. I have a family cemetery that is in the woods that ended up being a party zone. My 5X Grandad who was a Revolutionary War Soldier is buried there. The Sheriff's Work crew came in and did a fantastic job of cleaning, pruning, weed whacking.The VA came in and replaced his tombstone. The guys really like getting out to do stuff and they really do a good job or they get yanked off the work crew.
    Thanks again for bringing us along Kenny!

      Hi Mandi and Kenny, Thank you so much for your concern! That is awesome!!!! What nice people.
      Things kind of went to heck here last week, nothing too serious, Son's 40th Bday, Grandson's Bday, got sicker than a dog but all is good now.
      My 14 year old Golden Retriever Cooper then got sick. I was up at midnight this AM taking care of him. A couple of hrs later I helped him get up and he had a major heart attack while I was helping him. Long story short we took him to the Vet. this morning and did the final act of love for him. He was my Buddy and no way I would let him suffer. Now my 4 year old Golden Missy is missing her old buddy, they were like a old married couple. She's getting a lot of extra attention and love.
      Again, thanks for caring!..........Rick

    I used to ride dual sport motorcycles for many years. More street legal dirt bike type motorcycles. I was able to do a lot of really rough terrain. One ride here locally, I was exploring this faint two track up in the mountains and saw what looked like a fresher trail branching off. I followed it. It went up over a low ridge and dropped down into this small dell back in the trees and brush. Six cars and trucks parked back in there in various stages of being stripped down. A back woods chop shop. I thank the lucky stars that I didn't roll up on anybody working back there. I took pics and sent them to the local Sheriff office. I was contacted a few months later by a local guy who had his stolen Toyota 4Runner recovered. Just to say thanks.

    You're absolutely right about the gates. That's what has happened around here. One of the new big problems around here is exactly what kinds of stuff that the local landfills will accept and the cost to dump stuff off in them. People will find out of the way spots to dump old paint and chemicals, anything to save a buck.

    • @lloydmcgavin752
      @lloydmcgavin752 9 месяцев назад +1

    • @KennyOfAllTrades

      I agree. That open spot that was once used for camping is now limited to people walking through. Such a waste... there was another person who commented that they used this big spot for family get-togethers over the weekends. Now it's gone and most likely will never be re-opened.

    Thank you for being the person we should all be! Its the same here in NW Montana and its so sad 😞. Ive been thinking about starting a Gambler 500 in my area. Its a really awesome group of people that get together and clean up areas. We have fun, work hard and make great friendships! I believe it started in Oregon with a small group of friends. I went one year and I couldn't believe all the garbage we picked up. You can Google it and find more information about it, if you want to that is. I love camping but I gotta say that fall is my favorite time to do so! Have safe travels my friend and stay awesome.....

    Amazing video as usual, you never fail / disappoint sir. This one started serious and I can’t help but echo what you have said. I definitely see why Mandi doesn’t like this place. Our country is so beautiful but some of us just don’t care about anything or anyone. While watching this video I kept thinking about those currently in recent war torn places and those that have lost everything. Can you even imagine what these people would give for this piece of land some people just trashed.

    Kenny that water is deep enough to contact your differential and axle. Not sure if you have a sealed diff/axle or not. If yours is the vented type when the diff and axle contact the water it cools it enough that water can be pulled into your vent and mix with the diff fluid. If a sealed unit it can still pull water in from seals etc. I think fording instructions for most vehicles are no deeper than the water reaching the rims. They make fording kits where the cap or vent is replaced with a fitting and tubing much like that on your airbags, and then you locate the actual vent higher like on the firewall in front and high up in the box for the rear end. I made my own from parts from the auto store. So far have been deep enough that water was seeping in the doors with no problems. Vents working like a charm.

    • @KennyOfAllTrades
      @KennyOfAllTrades  9 месяцев назад +1
