  • Physical assessment is the baseline of everything we do in nursing and is the first step in the nursing process.This video includes the demonstration of a focused cardiovascular assessment in a head-to-toe fashion. It details the examination and hones in on the cardiac landmarks, peripheral vascular assessment as well as listening for bruits over the carotid arteries and abdominal aorta.

    About juglar vein is not mention..?? Is jugar vein is not necessary for cardio??

      Great question! It may or may not be necessary, depending on the patients' condition/admission diagnosis and/or past medical history. JVD assessment is a special test that is definitely helpful to check in a patient with heart failure or any other concern for fluid volume overload.

    Why is this label cardiovascular examination?

    • @NursingSchoolExplained

      Hi Prenita! This video is the demonstration of a focused cardiovascular assessment that incorporates every aspect of the head to toe assessment, just as it is performed in the clinical setting. It includes all important assessments: orientation, heart and lung sounds, peripheral circulation, and the abdomen. Thanks for watching!

      @@prenitapersaud5572 OSCEs are a standarized approach to check your clinical competency in a certain course. I recommend referring to your skills checklist(s) and asking your professors for pointers as well as have them supervise a practice run of yours. As with anything in nursing, practice makes perfect!
      Here is an article I found that explains the OSCE and gives pointers to students as well as examiners: www.nursingtimes.net/roles/nurse-educators/the-objective-structured-clinical-examination-22-08-2014/#:~:text=The%20objective%20structured%20clinical%20examination%20(OSCE)%20is%20used%20increasingly%20in,the%20assessments%20and%20for%20students.
      Good luck on your exam! You got this! :)

    If its a focused cardiovascular assessment why is it necessary to perform the bowel assessment as well?

    • @NursingSchoolExplained
      @NursingSchoolExplained  Год назад

      A head-to-toe assessment should always include all basic elements while focusing on a particular problem area, in this case the cardiovascular system.
      Check out my video where I explaint the difference between a focused and a head-to-toe assessment: ruclips.net/video/2Cy0MmtS_pk/видео.html
      Good luck in your studies!
