  • Episode of What's My Line with Harold Lloyd as the mystery guest. Dated April 26th 1953. Includes promotion for the re-release of The Freshman. At the end when he shakes everyone's hand, you can clearly see his missing forefinger and thumb. Lloyd performed all his stunts with the use of a prosthetic glove, hiding his injuries which resulted from a freak accident in 1919.

One thing about Harold Lloyd was that he was a very wealthy man. He saved and invested wisely and owned most of his movies. Also, he owned one of the best homes in Hollywood. Very smart man he was.

Lloyd was considered to be a genuinely nice man by everyone who knew him.

I can't believe he didn't get a bigger ovation. Imagine sitting in the audience of a game show and actually seeing a screen legend like Harold Lloyd walk on!

Aww... Harold's face when Ms Dorothy talked about the Freshman & him always climbing out of windows & the side of buildings is just adorable! Sigh... If only time travelling were a thing... xD

The Holy Trinity of silent comedy were Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, and Harold LLoyd.

Dorothy's two-word phrase at 4:33 - "wonderful comedian" - is as good a description of Harold Lloyd as you could ever hope for.

I will still never forget the feeling when I was fortunate enough to actually hold Harold's honorary Oscar. It was about 15 years ago, I used to work in a film library which dealt with old newsreels, in which some had included Harold of course. Suzanne Lloyd came to the library one day and the owner knew her very well. We then went to her house one day and sure enough, Harold's Oscar was on a mantle up rather high in a rather high ceilinged living room where we were. Those Academy Awards are HEAVY!

God bless your great uncle and ALL the silent comedians who have never been and never will be duplicated! They're still bringing quality joy and laughter to a world still desperately in need of it! What would they think knowing their silent films are still loved nearly 100 years later? :-)

Dorothy Kilgallen was so smart. She usually was the one to answer correctly.

This is so great! I used to watch Harold Lloyd movies in high school. Even have some favorited here on RUclips lol. I discovered him on Turner classic movies “silent Sunday nights” when they’d play silent films.

A guy who's work I only saw in bits on the TV in the 70's as a kid and now in full on the internet. What a revelation. I'm hooked not just with his work but to him. Those stunts. That youthful charm mixed with a conquer anything attitude. He can do pathos (both Girl Shy and Kid Brother both with Jobyna R.) as well as gags. He can make us feel sorry for him (The Freshman). Most of all I like him and his work because the film school types and "auteurs " mostly don't.
