Millie, there are only two voices in the universe that can do this song justice, obviously Mr Plant and Ann. Also the guitarist has got some balls to play that solo so well in front of Jimmy and get Jimmy to smile. Respect to Jason for filling for his Dad.
Welll said. But WOW , the guitarist NAILED that solo....while Jimmy Page was watching and listening so intently , and yes that guitarist has got a pair because you know that Jimmy Page was listening to each and every note he played. So no pressure at all on the guitarist LOL.
Jason was even playing his dads drums
and was wearing his bowler hat
thank you
Well said, David.
The guitarist was Shane Fontayne, and while he's an incredibly accomplished guitarist, still, yeah, that took some serious gonads.
I was in the choir for this show. Jason Bonham being on drums was a surprise to EVERYONE, and especially to Led Zeppelin, because he had told them he had a prior engagement. At every rehearsal, including the dress rehearsal, which gets recorded so that they can cut it with the live performance for the TV edit, it was Dave Grohl on drums, which we all thought was great, because Dave is a fantastic Drummer and a huge Zeppelin fan. It was only at the live show that Jason Bonham came out instead. That alone must have made Robert and Jimmy emotional. It was an honor for me to be part of this.
You guys killed it! Fantastic! The hairs on my arms stand up every time I hear this. Thank you!
Wow 👏🏼
Where did the choir members come from?
I believe this is probably the best performance ever by the Wilson Sisters or at least one that people will still be watching on their computer tablets three hundred years from now.
Don't forget Jonesy too. I am sure he misses Bonzo as much as the rest of them. He is the one who found Bonham's lifeless body, kept Robert from seeing him like that.
Now, THAT is how you honor an iconic band. One of, if not the greatest tributes to a band I have ever seen.
That first comment she read sums up what I was just thinking myself. Led Zeppelin heard and felt for the first time what it was like for their devout fans who were listening to them playing this song all those years.
The woman with her arms up, pumping at the end, is Bonnie Raitt. You may know her, but if you don't, you absolutely MUST check her out! Slide guitar hero/writer/singer.
Bonnie performed earlier in the show in the tribute to Buddy Guy. The 2012 Kennedy Center Honors recognized ballerina Natalia Makarova, actor Dustin Hoffman, late-night host David Letterman, blues guitarist Buddy Guy, and Led Zeppelin. You can see part of Letterman, as he is sitting next to Jimmy Page.
The 2023 Kennedy Center Honors recipients were announced just last week. The honorees are actor and comedian Billy Crystal; soprano Renée Fleming; singer-songwriter-producer Barry Gibb; rapper, singer and actress Queen Latifah; and singer Dionne Warwick.
The song itself....MARVELOUSLY DONE. What makes it phenomenal for me.... Jason Bonham, Zep's drummer's son, playing and at the end, looking up in tribute to his Dad. Tears. Nothing but tears.
LZ and the Wilson sisters have a long history and Heart often covered their songs, which they were one of the very few who got the band's blessing.
I had an acquaintance who was dating a rock show promoter in El Paso, TX back in the '70s and got to hang out with all the talent. She maintained that the Wilson sisters were the hardest partiers out of a very long list of bands she met. I thought she was exaggerating until years later I saw an interview with Plant and Page where they talked about touring with Heart and said the same thing. Ah, youth!
Ann Wilson has one of the most powerful female voices. And her sister Nancy can play a mean guitar. This is one of the best tributes to Led Zeppelin with Ann & Nancy doing the classic song "Stairway To Heaven". No one else could have pulled it off as well.
Nancy also has superb vocals and Ann is a decent guitarist.....and they both play piano
The drummer is Jason Bonham, the late drummer's son and Robert Plant's "god son," who has his own band and tours as a LZ tribute band. I saw them last year and it was a very good trip down memory lane. The band was told Jason couldn't make it, because of his touring and then he shows up to play. The bowler hat is also a tribute to the late John Bonham.
Jason also plays with Black Country Reunion with Glenn Hughes from Deep Purple and blues guitar great Joe Bonamassa. They have created some great music too.
This is one of the most beautiful aspects of this video.... if you see a version that starts just a tiny bit earlier, you see Robert's touching reaction when he sees Jason come out. I love this so much.
@@RMForbes505Doesn't Jason also play with Sammy Hagar's band as well?
Just before Jason came on, Robert Plant turned to Jimmy and said ''We should have brought Jason with us''.
Robert Plant asked Jason Bonham to be his plus one for the show. But Jason was already committed to the show and kept it a secret saying he had the touring schedule commitment. Robert Plant told both Jimmy Page and John Paul Johns that he wasn't coming. All three where surprised to see him after they announced his name with his father's. His band with Glenn Hughes and Joe Bonamassa "Black Country Communion" is a great band
Not surprised the great Ann Wilson did a superb job covering this epic song. Kudos for everyone involved! This is one of the greatest performances I've ever seen in my 60 plus yrs of listening to music!!!! Ann is still performing in her mid 70s.
I never get sick of this! I’ve been a Heart fan since the 70’s, and this is epic beyond belief.
You cannot appreciate great music without goosebumps Millie. You are truly one of the best contributors.
Yes, has to be one of the greatest tributes of all time and the emotion of watching Jimmy, Robert and John Paul while Jason played the drums is beyond special. I am so privileged to have seen them five times from 1972 to 1977. I can’t imagine a world without Zeppelin!
Zeppelin were Heart's heroes and inspiration.
Led Zeppelin are very protective of their music and who sings it. So when you get a rousing ovation from them as well as the President,1st lady and all in attendance you have definately achieved a lifetime accomplishment.
Kind of ironic, Led Zeppelin being protective of others playing their music. 🤣
Whoever put this thing together should be permanent producers of the Super Bowl halftime show.
Matter of fact, I think it should be the next Super Bowl halftime show. I don't believe ZEP has ever been invited.
Not only one of the best song tributes ever but one of the best reaction videos ever, I've duly subscribed 🙂
Jason playing his father's legendary ludwig kit and wearing his derby Hat. the choir wearing derby hats is in tribute to his father as well.
This is one of the best covers of all time. Nailed IT!!!
One of My all time favorite live performance . A tribute suitable for the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame. For one of the greatest bands of all time I rewatch this regularly.
I'm glad you finally reacted to this one. Jason Bonham has also played with Led Zeppelin. You should check out their live version of "Kashmir" where Jason plays with Robert, Jimmy and John Paul. He absolutely kills it in that one too.
John Bonham used to wear a "bowler" hat which is why everyone in the choir was wearing them.
Heart has covered several Led Zeppelin songs. They are available on RUclips. I think my favorite is probably their cover of "Misty Mountain Hop" but all of their Zep covers are cool.
Millie, Awesome reaction to what I believe is the best cover ever and possibly the best live performance ever! Rock legends singing and playing to Rock Gods. Ann Wilson is one of a kind. I have probably watched this video 100 times and it never gets old. keep up the great work!
Props to who ever put together this cover. They didn't play it safe they successfully add orchestra and choir while retaining the essence of the song, along with the out standing vocals from Ann, Jason Bonham on drums, and Michael Barakan on guitar. Gives me chills every time I listen to it.
Stairway To Heaven was the theme of my high school prom. It is so great to see a rock legend (Heart) paying tribute to another rock legend (Led Zep). Such a great performance.
The entire tribute is worth watching. Introduced by Jack Black and includes covers by Foo Fighters, Kid Rock, Lenny Kravitz as well as this cover by Heart.
Millie, so happy your generation enjoys my generation's music. Take care and be safe.
I will just say this! You are a real rocknroller! Loved your reaction ❤🫵🏻✊🏻✊🏻✊🏻✊🏻✊🏻
subbed, thumbs up and shared because of this wonderful reaction... Thank you young lady... I'm almost as old as Led Zep and this always makes me cry... #LedZep4ever
...actually not quite that old but, the Wilson sisters and I are nearer to my age... lol
I’m not a subscriber, just passing through but absolutely loved your reaction. You were so right to react like you did! This cover has got to be the best ever. Thanks for sharing.
Yes, the best cover I've ever seen! Espectacular.....bravo!!!❤
The drummer for Heart that night was Jason Bingham. He’s the son of John Bingham, the original Led Zeppelin drummer. I never get tired of watching that video.
Ann was 62 when this happened, they got a little practice the morning of and when she lets the graul in on the high note at the end
This is an Excellent performance
The sisters didn't just cover the song, they made Rock History with it...The surviving Led Zeppelin members were not expecting the honor they received from the girls...
The guys from Zepplin are realizing how we fans appreciate this song, probably for the first time.
Loved your reaction. The greatest rock song sung by a legendary singer in front of the greatest rock band ever
I watch this every time it pops up. Best tribute ever done to the best song ever ❤
If you're interested in a Heart cover, check out their induction to the R & R Hall of Fame where Gretchen Wilson (with the surviving members of Alice in Chains) perform Barracuda. Idk if there's another voice besides Gretchen that could come close to covering Ann.
Saw Heart my sophomore year at Ohio State in 1976. My brother and I bought front row tickets for $8.00
Holy shit, they were incredible. This one is an incredible tribute.
One of THE best live performances EVER!!!
This is actually the Kennedy center honors. This is a live rendition in front of the actual band , Led zeppelin. It made them cry.. It's a legendary performance..✌️ Heart has said in many interviews led zeppelin inspired them to start making music...
Simply spectacular
Have seen Heart twice, they are great!
Always my favorite quote. They asked Robert Plant what his favorite rock song was. He said anything Ann Wilson is singing. That won in my favorite of all time. Ann out Zepplelined Led Zeppelin.
Steven Tyler ( Abby Road Medley) Kenedy Center Honors Paul McCartney 2010
Also Epic. A must reaction!!
Band=Maid drummer Akane used to where a bowler hat, just like the one they are all wearing. Love this song and love this tribute!
Millie, did you not know going into this review that John Bonham's son, Jason, as pointed out below, not only the late Zep drummer's kid, but also Robert Plant's godson, was behind the skins for this one. SO EMOTIONAL, as Plant & Jason's heart knocks, & Jason looking up to the sky/"heaven" (& his dad) near the end .... PHEW
Rock legends performing in front of The Gods .. no pressure at all ..and they slayed it
Yes, probably best cover I have ever seen and heard as well.
Thanks for bringing me into the song.
It was a surprise to everyone that Jason was going to play drums on this song, apparently he even took out his dad's old derby hat for the performance. What is extra special is that John Bonham was Robert Plants best friend and after his passing the band was never the same. Plant was moved to tears this evening seeing his best friend and band mates son playing on stage with his dads hat on. Near the end of the song Jason looked up as to say Dad this was for you! Very powerful evening for all who witnessed this. Heart is a Class Act! GREAT REACTION .
Oh girl, i was looking forward to see this from you and you couldn't have messed it up even a little more :(
This was ALL about Jason and his father, and the strong bond the band and their families have. infact their all family and Jason has 3 fathers. That's what this is all about for Led, and the honoor cerempny is what it's all about for the audience. Noone cares about our favorite song or even Heart under these circumstances - Led Zeppelin finally was complete again and performed right after with their family member and something like second or third son of the backbone of Led, John Bonham, who held all these big egos togehter in a way that they stll are family after all those years. Thats the actual story
Absolutely the best heart is amazing
I love that it's Jason Bonham's son the original drummer from led Zeppelin who died on the drums wearing his dad's hat playing his dad's drum kit That's why all the people have the same hat on
Really love your choices on music, nice job!❤
Jason Bonham is wearing one of his dad's bowler hats. The hat was John's signature. And the drum kit is the same drum kit that John "Bonzo" Bonham used when they recorded "Stairway" originally.
Many agree, one of the top covers ever. You are about my 50th listen. These were all "my people" back in the 60's and 70's...Yep, that makes me old! :) Be well, Be happy, Duke
that was great. goosebumps.
This is around 37 years after Barracuda! Ann can STILL SING!!!
Can't wait for more Heart reactions. You are in for a wonderful music journey!! ❤❤❤
Awesome reaction Millie. You are beautiful and I love your accent.
The drummer is Jason Bonham. John Bonham’s son. One of the reasons Robert Plant is SO emotional is because he and John Bonham were extremely close friends. And they were chosen to be a part of the band Led Zeppelin at the same time. And then, Robert Plant’s young son (around 4) came down with a weird virus. And he died suddenly. I think before Robert could get back home. Then one month later, John Bonham died of alcohol poisoning. He drank himself to death. And that was the end of the band.
Yes, so emotional. And then here’s Heart doing the cover. A bohemian band. song is taken from J.J. R. Tolkien’s If it weren’t for Led Zeppelin’s Lord of the Ring’s songs, there’d be no books and definitely no movies. They single-handedly brought the author’s books to prevalence. And then the movies followed.
This makes me cry every bloody time. So much for my English stiff upper lip ✌️♥️🇬🇧
I don't think anyone could have done this better than the Wilson sister!! To do this particular song in front of those legends along with the former drummers son!! Wow!! And for Jason Bonham to do that in front of his dad's band mates!! Incredible!! And the way they did it. A cover should never be exact. It's the covering artists interpretation of it. This was absolutely amazing and beautiful!!! Thank you for your reaction and excitement watching it!!!
I totally 💯 agree with the comments that I read! I just thought I might give you a little “fun fact” about the initial inspiration for this song(you can’t make this stuff up)😆Robert Plant relaid a conversation between himself and George Harrison in which they were discussing Led’s music and George in his infinite wisdom quipped “You know the problem with you guys is that you don’t write enough ballads” to which Jimmy Page replied “He wants a ballad, I’ll give him a ballad!!”🤨🎸😂 And there you have it! So in a very real roundabout way, we all have The Beatles lead guitarist to thank for what is consistently voted “THE BEST ROCK-N-ROLL SONG OF ALL TIME!!!”😆🤣😂😝🤟✌️🫶
You got it...that's all I will say....great reaction!
The flute sounds show just what a powerhouse craftsman JPJ was...
As a Bonus the drum set performed on was his Fathers from Led Zeppelin. The Orange Acrylic set.
Arguably , the best rock song in history.
That was pretty special, great artists celebrating great artists.
Best cover EVER! Period.
Best cover I’ve ever seen to.
I love seeing Bonnie Raitt, & YoYo-Ma, among others. Rockin out, in the audience. Talk about universal music! LOL
The camera cuts to YoYo Ma (perhaps the world’s most accomplished cellist) during the guitar solo. One string musician admiring another.
Greatest cover ever!
You should watch the full version :)
This one was cut for unknown reasons. A whole verse is missing in the middle or the song.
Great! Epic event, great performance of a truly great song.Nice reaction.
There's a differen 1:12 t version where the drummer is introduced first and all 3 of the surviving members stood up in surprise. Be cause Robert Plant asked him to come to the show but he said he had a gig in LA he couldn't get out of. The drummer is Jason Bonham John Bonham son. Plus he's playing his dads drum kit and wearing his bowler hat to honor his father. Plus when they're done he looks to the sky as to ask his dad if he approved of the job he did. The reason Robert Plant teared up was because he was thinking of his best friend John Bonham as he watched his Godson Jason playing the drums. You should check out their reunion concert Celebration Day Jason plays drums.
Ann and Nancy were big Zeppelin fans and always played some Zeppelin songs during their live shows. Heart has been touring since the early 70's. It's possible that they have done this song live more than Zeppelin did. Listen to These Dreams to hear Nancy singing lead. There's a really good acoustic version or you could watch the studio official video version. You can also find videos of Ann playing guitar...she's actually pretty good
G'day Millie! This was the best cover I'd ever seen until I saw Australian country singer songwriter Kasey Chambers cover MnMs Lose Yourself! You really need to watch that. It will blow your mind!
The "like" button isn't big enough to express how much I love this!
hello fellow bass player. I saw in your intro you playing a cool bass. Is it a Hofner? Always wanted a violin shaped bass. Playing a traditional style bass for over 50 years I'm thinking of switching. I don't need anymore bass guitars. Great reaction Ann certainly still bring it. I love how you get into the music. Watching you react to the music I grew up with is a treat for this old rocker
I listen to heart back in the early seventies with dreamboat Annie
Jason Bonham the son was also using his fathers drum kit and wore his fathers hat as did the entire large choir.
PERSONALLY BEST VERSION EVER IN MY OPINION!
Best reaction video ever
If nobody else noticed in 6:39 you can see Lou Blue Marini from the Blues Brothers Band!!
This version always brings tears to my eyes. They couldn't have chosen better people than the Wilson sisters to perform this along with Jaosn Bonham.
Mi amor ESCALERA AL CIELO nice song 🎉🎉my little baby ❤❤
For your information, Heart started as a Led Zep coverband.
No one does Zeppelin covers like Heart. I'm convinced that they are the secret gypsy sisters of Led Zeppelin. They have covered them many times. My favorites are probably Black Dog and the Rain Song.
I saw Heart on their 2013 "Heartbreaker" tour.
Their entire second set was Zeppelin songs, with Jason on drums.
It was epic! 🤘🔥😎
Just to let you know, Robert Plant's tears wasn't for Ann Wilson's singing, which was great, but for how proud and happy to see Jason Bonham there in place of his father John Bonham. Robert Plant and Jason have a very close relationship, since he is Jason's Godfather.
Only can say is excelsior is a great presentarion is a great tribute
Jimmy (or Robert?) kater said Ann Wilson made him stop hating this song.
Loving your reaction, similar to mine, only I cry... Can anything better happen to a musician than to play a song publically in front of the master creator of it and get the standing ovation?
The person you noticed with the hand banging was none other than Bonnie Raitt. A great performer in her own right.
The other lady with her hands up is the one and only Debbie Allen, dancer, singer, actress, director, choreographer…also wife of legendary Lakers Norm Nixon
My first video. You are so much fun!!! I will be back !!
Well, this you just CANNOT FUCK WITH THIS.
Super!!!!!!!!!
Before becoming famous, Heart used to cover Zeppelin tunes
The 3 of them with Jason Bonham on drums...the late John Bonhams son was tearing me up!!
