    I remember this....
I was a Junior in high school in Lorain at the time.
This was when Japanese cars started flooding the market promising more gas mileage.
It was the beginning of the end of Ohio’s great boom of steel, auto manufacturing, and ship building.
If you couldn’t afford college, the only options by 1982 was to join the military or leave town to find work out west.
Minimum wage jobs were hard to come by when unemployment benefits ran out.

The sad thing- minimum wage hasn’t gone up much to compete with the dramatic hike in gas costs. I know this is supposed to be “funny”, but if you look back to what min wage was over time, you sort of slowly sink into a dark void of endless depression. Sigh 😔

77 cents a gallon? I recall here in Buffalo, some 30 years ago... one week, the unleaded at Atlantic was $1.199 per gallon, and then, a week or two after, it was 69.9 cents for the same gallon.

Back when diesel fuel was far cheaper than gasoline. Wonder why it costs far more now?

You’re joking, right? Gas was not cheap in 1979. Hopefully you got a little wiser in the last four years.

It’s not cheap. Gas was essentially the same price it is now. Seventy seven cents is about $3.50 which is close to the average cost now.

That was the beginning of the robbery of the world, if we hadn't purchased the products that were going up in price to put the squeeze on Americans we wouldn't be paying $3.00 now.
We all sing the same song 'I have to get to work' and 'I have to go on a business trip' and they sign the same song 'if you want pay for it' and the profits keep on rolling in.
The chocolate used those profits to buy their whole supply chain and now when they tell you that the price of sugar, milk or coca is rising, you can bet that it is, they can raise the price of any of the products they own and pass the increase to the consumer.
