After watching this, I bought 1 of these from Home Depot (actually 2 to a bag). It really did work. 10min fix without excessive digging!! Great product!
I have been to the sprinkler aisle at HomeDepot hundreds of times and never saw these or never realized what they were. Thanks for the great video and explanation. "I've gotta get me some of theeese."
Real glad you said use a folding knife to cut sod as I have always used a barbque grille scraper or my wife's spaghetti strainer. No wonder I've had trouble cutting sod.
That looks so much easier than digging out the whole thing. I have the Kap-It cutting tool, didn't know they made a riser as well. I'll be headed back to Home Depot to pick some up. Great video, thanks for sharing!
How does it hold up with the extra weight? I mean does the spring that was originally loaded in the pop-up handle the excess weight of the retrofit piece
It is a great product! I’ve used it on a few other of my sprinklers. Seriously such a time saver and durable product. Great work! I’ve got to go get me a few of the KLIFT-IT’s now!
I have an old copper irrigation system. what's the best and easiest way to rise the heads to the current grass level? The current heads don't even seem to be solder on the pipe.
If anything, you would either replace heads with taller ones since those are 2 inches tall (if i am correct with what i am thinking about) with 4 or 6 inch heads depending since copper sprinklers don't have a removable nozzle. I would recommend Hunter.
I found these don’t work on some of my sprinkler heads as they are not flat to snap on. For those I purchased extensions with a coupler at the end. When installing those, how much do you tighten the extension piece to the existing sprinkler head, as well as when you reinstall everything? I am always afraid to tighten things too tight, but also don’t want it to leak. Thanks!
Yeah someone else commented stating they didn’t work his Toro heads. I think they’re pretty compatible with most brands, but finding a few that aren’t. What brand are yours? But just hand tighten the risers so they’re pretty snug, they shouldn’t leak.
I have a Rainbird System that was installed in ground in year 2000. The original Rain Bird sprinklers heads are thin and do not fit Kap It Riser fat head protectors the thing you snap in. The extenders will screw in no problem, so what do I do with the original in ground Rain Bird sprinklers to get the protector housing from Kap It, to SNAP IN and work???
I don’t know what sprinklers it works for and what ones it doesn’t. It does take some force to get them to snap on. If they won’t work just return them. I know they do work for most traditional pop up heads. With rain bird being such a big big brand I would imagine they would work, but if they’re that old maybe not.
@@jamesbumbry4066 ah bummer. It’s an amazing product, but unfortunately it doesn’t always work depending on head type. You may have to dig down and raise those up.
Again your right, currently I just screwed on the extender to the sprinkler head and it works perfectly but I will have return this great product cause the snap on housing can't protect the extender.@@HomegrownHowTo
Pretty cool, shame they are not made anymore. Ah I lied, they are sold at Home Depot..but $10 a pop...little steep when a riser is only like 0.50 cents. How well does the connection hold up on the riser itself...does it get brittle and break over time or pretty durable?
Yes, they do still make them. They’ve got them at HD and Amazon. I’ve had mine on for about a year now and it’s held up great. The material is solid and I don’t foresee it getting brittle or breaking.
@@HomegrownHowTo I may try them on a couple heads here in the future. I'm completely digging up and replacing my front yard heads but the ones in the back I may try these since I have some that are too deep now.
@@HomegrownHowTo the material is made out of asb the same as the sprinkler itself. The original ones have now been working for 5 years through frost/freeze cycle each year. We have not had any issues.
They are more expensive but thet are a labor savings item. We are aversging 45 seconds to 1 minute to rqise a sprinkler and we do not have th digging mess. We have crews that average 30 an hour Nd you cannot tell we were in the yard area. It can add extra revenue to your bottom line
I encourage you to buy 1 bag of these (there are 2 per bag) and test them on your system. Watched the video and thought this was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Went to HD and bought 9 bags (again 2 per bag). Installed them in a few hours in the heat. Was excited to see the results. Turned on the irrigation system and the heads simply would not fully extend. Water gushed out around the sprinkler shaft as it would not form a seal. My water pressure is fine. The heads popped up fine before, I just thought it would be helpful to have them raised a bit to improve coverage. Spent a few hours the next day uninstalling all of them. Returned them to HD today. What an utter waste of my time.

Sorry to hear. Toro is a pretty common head- I’m surprised it doesn’t fit. I have Hunter heads and definitely took a fair amount of force to get it to snap. So if seems it’s a close fit try snapping it in hard. They go on super snug so they don’t pop off. Take care!

They don’t have bigger sizes, but you can double them up to make them longer. Super easy to use and I highly recommend!
