    Sorry to inform you, I have visited Cong on many occasions, but all the inside shots in Cohans bar was shot in a studio in Holywood. Also the Quiet an bridge scene was also shot in Hollywood.

    Hello there . I've got a pic of me and my hubby there pulling pints in 2014 but the bar was changed some yrs later . Are you telling me they've changed it back to the pub ?Remember ,Pat Cohans was never a pub ,it was a shop belonging to Nancy and Jack whom I knew well and they were the most amazing characters ,you should look them up. Nancy was such a star as was her dog 'killer'! My husband and I have been visiting Cong for years and loved Nancy and Jack,we were at Nancy's wake in her nephew's house in Cong ,'where we had stayed previously . May God rest Nancy and Jack.

    Pat Cohans bar was filmed as a set in America.
    Cohans at the time of the Quiet man film was a grocery shop and not a bar.

    I’m confused about the bar inside Pat Cohan’s.
    There are several documentaries filmed in the ‘70s which show Jack Murphy the owner, who was a young man during the filming who flatly states that this was NEVER a bar.
    It was a grocery store STAGED to look like a bar for one scene only.
    The “bar” scenes were, in fact, filmed in Hollywood.
    Jack Murphy said: “ It was just a bar for the movie. As soon as the movie was over it reverted back again into a general store. They did just a bit of the fight scene here, going through the door. That was done here. But other than that, all the interior signs of all the houses around here were all done in Hollywood. There was no interior signs, scenes at all done in the Danaher house or in the Playfair house, or back in Mann at all. They were all scenes done in America back in the studios.

    The Quiet Man is of course an iconic film. Would it have been so memorable without the film score of Inishfree. The song was written by an Irish Garda named Dick Farrelly, not about the lakeisle of Inishfree but about Ireland in general aka Inishfree. The film was described by Lord Kilannin as a western and not an Irish love story. No credit strangely appears for the use of his music. If examined closely there is a strange scene of Wayne dragging O Hara by the hair which is not memorably romantic. The brawls might be a product of that era but not very edifying. The stage Irishness of O, Hara s acting is a little overdone, although nobody can dispute her beauty, the stunning scenery and the music. Just a thought

    Cohan's Bar was not a bar when the quiet man was made, the mock bar was in fact Jack Murphy's Grocers Shop, it was converted into a bar quite recently........There were no internal movie scenes shot inside Cohan's Bar because electricity had still not arrived in Cong Co. Galway so all the movies internal scenes were shot in Hollywood after filming in Ireland was completed!........

    • @TravelTipsIreland
      @TravelTipsIreland  Год назад +1

      Well actually Cong was the first town in Ireland to have electricity because they brought it in to facilitate filming

    • @michaeloneill6409
      @michaeloneill6409 Год назад +2

      @@TravelTipsIreland Electricity did not arrive in Cong until the filming of The Quiet Man was completed......It eventually arrived on 6th July 1951 with a little ceremony involving John Wayne...... John Ford had to approach the Irish Government of the day to put a halt to the ongoing dynamiting around the outskirts of Cong and the erecting of Electricity poles also on the outskirts of Cong, bearing in mind that The Quiet Man is set in 1920's rural Ireland .....the dynamiting being carried out around the outskirts of Cong could be heard while filming was in progress!!

    • @themadfarmer5207
      @themadfarmer5207 2 года назад +2

      There was an allocation of a significant sum of money a short number of years ago from some Dept of Irish Government for purchase and restoration of the cottage. It should have been compulsory acquired decades ago and restored. Right of way may have been a problem and a more modern house has been built quiet close to the ruins. Correct me if wrong but Ford had to do a lot of work on the cottage prior to filming. It appears to have been derelict then
