Hi Andrea. It's time to get a new mat if you find any deep gouges or warn lines from repeated cutting. If you have any of these, you will encounter threads that do not cut because they are crossing the gouge or warn line. If this happens, it's time for a new mat. Otherwise, mats will last for years with care. Thanks for your question.
