  • The reverse laser will do very little for lining up the 1st mirror. The same as your Co2 laser does little to nothing to help line up your 3rd mirror. Also the Co2 laser does nothing to tell you where your beam should enter the lens head (most people aim for the center of the hole). As an optical engineer I can't express enough the importance of your beam hitting the center of the lens at exactly 90deg. It will obviously still work if not perfect but if you want better quality you will want perfect beam alignment.

I had the same idea of using a reverse laser for the alignment. I'm glad to see an engineer thought same first.

I bought one of these around the time this video came out 3 years ago. It aligned my 60w laser better than I ever could the old way. Here I am looking at it again as i just upgraded to a monster 150w co2 laser and the proper alignment tool ordered. Don't buy the knock off poor quality OMTech version, get this one. It's worth it and if you have an issue with it the customer service is as good as you would expect from a company where the owner himself is instructing on how to use it.

Could you elaborate on how you would correct the alignment to mirror 2 if it travels roughly 1-2mm from the farthest point left to the farthest point right? Getting it to hit dead center on either side is straight forward, but moving the angle doesn't seem to do much to correct it

Just purchased this. So mirror 3 (laser head) is suppose to have the mirror all the way down on all 3 screws and not touch it ? I’m having some issues if I touch mirror 3 screws and mirror 2 screws, mirror 1 drifts up and down no matter the adjustment I make on mirror 2.

      callysadventures6315,
How did that work for you?
How did you get the red beam perfectly 90 deg out of the adapter?
I suspect the actual pointer beam is not true to the pointer housing.

    • @callysadventures6315

It worked actually quite well but i didn't use a Laserpointer i used just a laser diode in its raw form ... If you roll your adapter on the fror and the laser beam at the wall stays at the same place it is fine

Perfect alignment not just helps in better quality but cuts down running costs and times.. I used get laser cutting outsourced, they always had slower runs, and still not so good cuts... Ever since i have owned a laser, for the same 80w i run it 2 times faster than others

I bought your lenses (a set) and mirrors and of course your reverse alignment tool. I've used it a couple times only to realize that depending on how it's inserted into the head it either gives me good results (meaning it is aligned to mirror 2 because that's where I placed it before), or the next time it's inserted it way off. So far off that it's off the mirror...
Maybe I'm missing something here? The tool seems to have a loose fit in the tube and of course it's locked down with a thumb screw.
Why the inconsistency due to removal of the tool and then reinsertion? I have noted that there's a flat machined into the body of the tool but no mention of whether or not it's functional regarding the alignment procedure.
I did a 'perfect' alignment of mirrors 2 and 3 (no movement) only to find out that if I disturb the reverse alignment tool it throws everything off.

U did not show any adjustment. Do u adjust the source mirror (mirror 3) or the target mirror (mirror 2), if the red dot is not in the center of the target mirror (mirror 2)? Does the nut adjustment follow the same direction or reverse direction?

    • @americanphotonics9120
      @americanphotonics9120  2 года назад +1

the primary purpose for the reverse tool is to properly adjust mirror 3. after adjusting mirror 3 it may be necessary to move mirror 2 so the red dot hits it in the center.

What about a manual to show us the different steps of the process? I understand the process from lense 3 to lense 1, but then you lost me. You fit a piece of tape over lense 3 and marked it with a pen and then remove the alignment tool. What do you align now, the CO2 laser untill it hit the red spot on mirror 3?

it is ok to move only the front or the back of the tube to make the tube alignment right. the tube does not need to be perfectly level the the machine or the earth.

    • @AlexCharal

Does anyone have a link to a better video that actually tells you what to do when it does not align? I have gone through all of the batteries included and still don't have mirror 3 to 2 aligned. So far off that when I move laserhead left to right the beam goes off the mirror completely. Every time I try to dial it in, it goes off the other direction even with the smallest of corrections.
