When you playing as blacksmith you get free repairs, yes, but you're buying only broken equipment and also you're actually ignored all the free repairs. :D To repair the item you need to drag them to the slots below and go to fight with something else, while they're repairing. So you bought a lot of items, that was broken by default (marked red) and go to fight with them where they easily will be destroyed, cause they have minimum durability. :)
