The NFL Today....seeing this takes me back to Sunday afternoon's at my grandparents house, sitting in the living room floor with my grandad watching the Redskins every week...I was 11 years old, and these were simply golden times. The NFL is nothing today like it was then. Musberger, Cross, The Greek, and Pat Sumerall & John Madden....classic!!!!
As a Patriots fan, I've been telling idiots that for years. The NFC had the Big Five (49ers-Cowboys-Giants-Bears-Redskins). There was no equal in the AFC with exception of the 1990 Bills. This is why I've always said, Joe Montana is not 4-0 in the SuperBowl, He's 4-2 in Championship games.
scores NY Jets 20 (6-7) @ New England Patriots 42 (6-7) 1 Buffalo Bills 27 (7-6) @ Indianapolis Colts 3 (7-6) 1 Cincinnati Bengals 24 (4-9) @ Cleveland Browns 38 (8-5) 1 Dallas Cowboys 20 (5-8) @ Washington Redskins 24 (10-3) 1 Houston Oilers 10 (7-6) @ New Orleans Saints 24 (10-3) 1 Miami Dolphins 28 (7-6) @ Philadelphia Eagles 10 (5-8) X Minnesota Vikings 10 (7-6) @ Green Bay Packers 16 (5-7-1) X NY Giants 24 (4-9) @ St Louis Cardinals 27 (6-7) X LA Raiders 10 (5-8) @ Kansas City Chiefs 16 (3-10) X Pittsburgh Steelers 20 (8-5) @ San Diego Chargers 16 (8-5) X Detroit Lions 20 (3-10) @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers 10 (4-9) X Atlanta Falcons 0 (3-10) @ LA Rams 33 (6-7) 1 Denver Broncos 21 (8-4-1) @ Seattle Seahawks 28 (8-5) 1 Chicago Bears 3 (10-3) @ San Francisco 49ers 41 (11-2) 1 Jimmy went 8-6 that week
He went 7-7, the first four picks in the segment are all ATS. Washington only beat Dallas by 4, they were laying 9.5 in that game. He had them by 13, that's a loss.
The Greek was not a bad guy. He actually was complimenting not putting down African Americans . Not trashing them like Gruden. The Greek also knew lots of dirt on everyone in the league and CBS but he never ratted anyone out after they cancelled him. RIP
As stated, Greek was 8-6. I was semi-impressed that he had the Rams blowing out Atlanta although in 1987, that wasn't going out on much of a limb. The G-Men slowed down Lomax but the Cards prevailed contrary to Greek's prediction. He messed up big on the Bo Jackson prediction. Bo had a total of 1 yard rushing for that game - yes, 1 yard rushing.
That was a great clip of the predictions segment as it was then. One thing that I'd like to know-- what was the point of the standings board behind Brent and Jimmy? It was a nice touch to have it there (and it's something that I wish CBS would do in the future), but what was its purpose?
I HAD (emphasis on had; as my parents had the unfortunate tendency to reuse tapes {mostly for television preachers; being a PK...but not a wild one}) part of this week's Greek segment (just the part mentioning the bonus and beginning of the Cowboys-Redskins pick). This was recorded over for the second of two episodes of the short-lived D.C. Follies syndicated series that I have found.
I hated the Greek's picks. Whenever I saw them, he used to always pick against Chicago. He picked the Rams, then the Patriots to beat the Bears back in the 1985 Post Season.
Jimmy was the Mel Kiper of betting!!! A professional on the program because no one else wanted to do it!!! U lost. Lot of money fckn with this dude back then!!!

Back before you had a 6 man ex-jock testosterone filled crew wearing $2000 suits reliving their jock days playing football on a studio gridiron.
NFL Today was television gold!
Greek was 8-6 that week with his predictions. He did get the upset of Buffalo over the Colts.
Bruce Smith forced Sean Salisbury to fumble into the end zone and recovered for a touchdown. Bills 27, Colts 3
When football pregame shows were worth watching
They were only a half an hour to not an 1 hour like today
Well, when you're right 51% of the time, you're wrong 49%. Let's just get to his Stone Cold Lock of the Century...of the Week.
Erik-John why didn't you say that before lol 😂
Back then the NFC Championship was the Super Bowl!
AFC Was to
Yes. Who won it won the SB except for '83. We'll prob never see a decade so dominated by one conference. Now if the Niners made it to the SB in '83...
so true. As a Bears fan, I saw the 49ers beat Chicago twice in the NFC Championship game.

49ers beat the Bears 41-0 that Monday night with Steve Young coming on in relief after an early injury to Joe Montana.
At 2:20 Musberger being a smart ass towards The Greek and cracks him up

What about the spread
Wow, was he ever right about the Bills

Jimmy gs picks. 😅👍

Jimmy the Greek was the best.

Phil Hartman did an impressive impersonation of Jimmy the Greek on SNL.
With Kevin Nealon as Brent
Irvin and Sanders need their own sitcom.
@gjs78 there have been a few ties since the 80's.
RIP Irv Cross!
RIP Irv Cross
Week 14
If Jimmy hadn’t been fired, I’d say he would’ve left CBS in 1990 along with Brent.
The greeks grapevine 😆 lol👍
I hated the Greek's picks. Whenever I saw them, he used to always pick against Chicago. He picked the Rams, then the Patriots to beat the Bears back in the 1985 Post Season.
the call is 7 Up and 3 Down.
I watched this lol
Was the greek drunk on national TV? Yes he had a beer or two with brent.
Denver was 8-3-1; Never see another team with a tie in the NFL again; I miss the NFL of the 80's; Sucks Now!
WEEK 14 NOT 13
9ers!
Nope, week 13.
Jimmy was the Mel Kiper of betting!!! A professional on the program because no one else wanted to do it!!! U lost. Lot of money fckn with this dude back then!!!
I've been researching into sports picks and found a fantastic website at Jalin bet blueprint (check it out on google)
