thanks for the vid!! this is honestly the best and easiest explanation i have found on how to do a nutter so I'll be following it tit for tat already replaced all electronic components (spark plugs, wires, distributor and icm) and replacing all timing components tomorrow, adding a nutter to the list as well! hoping to upgrade to a motorcraft 2150 carb in the future but this vid honestly saved my life lol
Great video! Thank you. It helped alot. I was able to buy a very similar Reman carb off amazon shipped for about $80. Did the nutter bypass, new plugs and timing. Night and day difference. It was running way to rich before and i could not get it to run half the time.
Did the nutter bypass on my 87 before I got rid of the gawdawful feedback carb. It worked well for improving the performance and fuel economy, until I got a redone BBD with a manual choke for a dodge super six engine. Being able to fine tune the choke in -30 Ashtabula County winters was a godsend.
So, the black wire coming from dist, can it be ran directly to module as well? I would like to completely remove the ecm and all of its wiring from mine. 85 XJ.
What did you do with the stepper wires? I just unpluged the stepper motor and it ran better. Do you see a problem with just leaving it unpluged? Thanks for the Video, Very helpful!
I have a 84 dj5 Jeep parts match up to a cj what wire is the power wire on the ignition control module and what is the white wire I bypassed it years ago ran fine but I have forgot that was 10 years ago please anyone that knows please let me know
Nope you can't touch the emissions equipment. Test it and if it's legitimately bad, get a new one or grab one from a yard. Honestly they run fine with the stepper if something isn't broken.
Please share your opinion,my 84' AMC Eagle has been undriveable for 5 months now because of this intermittent stalling issue that seems to only happen when under load. You can rev it fine all day long and she idles nicely but as soon as you drive it losses all power, bogs out and then dies but will usually fire right back up.I highly suspect the ICM but these vehicles are new to me,Thanks man!
Where did you get the carb from? Any carburetor you would recommend? I did the nutter bypass and it still won’t idle well, thinking it’s a carb issue now.
Oh boy... it has been a while... I want to say the company name was something like "Brand New Carburetors" or something like that? Sorry, it was a long time ago. Stay tuned though - this same vehicle is in my driveway getting some work done: unnecessary vacuum hoses/controls removed, general tune up, new distributor, and possibly an electric fuel pump.
Going off memory but I believe it was a place called guaranteed carburetors. the first carburetor was defective - there was an issue with the float. They sent a new one out right away that's been working flawlessly. Great customer service!
Where did you get the wiring diagram? I'm trying resolve no combustion after installing new distributor cap, ect.. and trying to figure your the extra wires to the ignition coil. Looks like a capacitor, which is disconnected and another extra wire to no where.
@@mcnallysport not much is needed for combustion... Fuel, compression and spark. If the spark looked weak, and it is weak in all cylinders, I would suspect a coil or coil wire issue. Did you do a nutter bypass already to wire the ignition pickup directly into the ICM?
Been a while but I think this is the carb we used. guaranteedcarburetors.com/T2-904NC_p_32.html. The first one they sent us had a defective float, for the second one was fine and it's still running great today!
To be honest no but I think that's because the carburetor didn't end up being the issue. I didn't post a video of this but we found that the previous owner had pinched the fuel lines between the tank and the body. They were flat as a pancake. If you do need a carburetor though the one we purchased was excellent.
similar scenario for my 86 CJ7; performed Nutter bypass which helped resolve stalling. Went ahead with Motorcraft 2100 carb replacement of old Carter carb (~$200). Used Gronk via Ebay for that purchase and instructions. I believe that color coded scheme is his schematic. The fun is removing so many miles of vacuum lines. Now she runs perfectly smooth and the engine bay is cleaner/less cluttered making it easier to isolate other engine issues. Only "necessary" vacuum lines are distributor/carb line and carb/brake booster line. Less essential vacuum lines run from open ports in carb bowl to charcoal canister.
@@JoesGarageProductionsLLC Great video, I read the description and watched the video, then read the entire comments section, I think your comment here is worth noting as an *Edit* to the description section at the bottom even though the video is a year old.
Great and informative video. I’m looking to do the nutter and also looking to replace the car with a reman….. one question, may be a dumb one as I’m not exactly the most mechanically or electronically inclined, but if I were to get the carb without the stepper motor, what do I do with the plug that went into the old steeper motor? Would I just leave it in the engine bay, disconnected? Should I cut the plug off and liquid tape the cut wire ends? Any help on this would be appreciated greatly! Cheers!
Rewiring my 87 with a Painless Harness this week and doing this. You made this make perfect sense, thanks!

Do you have a link for the carb you got? Thank you.
@@Denver1976Man I just typed it into amazon. Cheap china stuff. Better off just rebuilding it

I tried and it worked but my ignition module had de purple cable so it was just like on the diagram great video
Best CID for my application. the carb on my 79 has no step motor so I was not sure what to do.

Great job explaining the ecm bypass. I can't figure out where the name "nutter" comes from though. Did you ever find out?
Thank you! I think it is named after the guy that came up with it. I think he posted it to a forum somewhere many years ago

To do the nutter is it required to change the carb?
Nope, not required. This carb needed work anyway.
What wrench or socket did you use to get the carburetor off the intake? I can barely get a wrench on two of them.
Will this pass calorfornia smog. What did you do with the stepper wires?

I think we left it at factory timing. The owner is not a big high performance guy
Iirc you need to set timing at curb idle.
