When he screamed out “I was helpless” I started losing it.
Its so sad...Hes been struggling to communicate for so long
I burst into tears. Especially since he doesn't like to show emotion, or weakness or have to ask for help. This was a real raw moment for him.

This was such a powerful scene . "I was taken advantage because I was the Deaf kid who couldn't talk to his mom"

Good thing Bay was there to support Travis
Bay Is so good to Travis! And she really matured by this point in the series. Seeing what she does for Travis really makes me proud of her...this is why I had been rooting for Bay and Travis as endgame. Doesn't anybody remember Emmett acted like a complete jerk when Bay was raped?! 😔

This is so heartbreaking. It makes you wonder how many kids don't tell their parents about horrifying and traumatizing things because their parents are as neglectful as Travis' mom (because of or regardless of communication barriers). The fact that there are parents that wouldn't even learn to communicate with their children is horrifying enough. Just awful, awful parenting.
even tho she wouldve wanted to know.. he didnt know he could tell her.. its not that she was too buzy getting drunk or that she doenst want to hear about this stuff but you can tell otherwise :/
Le Best But he couldn't tell her. She never bothered to learn how to communicate with him until he was an adult. That's horrible parenting, no matter how you look at it. Her child went through something incredibly traumatizing and couldn't tell his own mother because she didn't care to learn his language.
Yes that is true, and for as much as I want to say, I really cant say much as I havent seen the show yet.. But you cant help but give some sympathy to those in the same situation..

Me too! Have you noticed when he doesn't speak out loud, though, you can sort of tell that he's whispering his lines when he signs? 😊He is adorable....I'm sure there will be a reboot of Switched At Birth sometime soon! Maybe Bay and Travis are parents by now! In my fics, they are!😊💜❤️

Dachshund Mom people back then told parents of deaf kids not to teach them ASL or learn ASL themselves cause then the child would never learn how to “communicate properly” basically if they signed, they wouldn’t learn how to talk or lip read. Which is idiotic. So Travis’ mom not being able to sign is perfectly logical though illogical at the same time.
But other parents did learn - I don't mean Regina - as she learn thanks to Melody but for example Natalie's parents. And yeah maybe it was the advice that was given but still, parents should use their own common sense! Travis mom was just horrible, horrible mother, there's no excuse.

I feel like this scene is the proof for Travis and Bay beeing a great match and deserved beeing endgame. They are so supportive to oneanother and comfort eachother. It's more like a grownup realtionship other than the up and downs Bemmet went trough. For the Moment Bemmet lastet it was great and wonderful and they were made for eachother, but now with Bay grown up and Emmet making all the Mistakes he did, this is how a relationship should look like. (I'm sorry if I made a few mistakes, I'm not a native speaker :) )
Johanna Bre I so agree, Bavis is so good together, but then again they were friends first maybe that's why they had such a good relationship, a good relationship is based on friendship.
I don’t really feel that’s a fair comparison. Bay and Emmett were teenagers, learning through trial and error. Both were immature and made several mistakes, just like Travis and Marybeth. The relationship between Travis and Bay benefits from the mistakes of both those relationships. They are both older, more mature, and have learned the hard way what kind of choices one has to make to sustain a healthy relationship. Personally, I don’t see Travis and Bay spending the rest of their lives together. What they have is great and I agree they are what’s best for one another at this time in their life. I can appreciate what they mean to one another, but I see their lives taking them in separate directions. It was already happening by the end of the show. To me, one of the greatest signs of growth for Bay was how she didn’t follow Travis like she tried to do with Emmett. She realized she had to be her own person outside their relationship as well.
I love how this show dealt with relationships. Everything felt real and not forced. The chemistry between Bay and Emmet was never denied. Even when they "hated" each other, they loved each other. Both of these characters are amazing for always learning from their mistakes and not shying away from apologies. This is why I interpret the ending of the show as a suggestion that Emmett and Bay eventually find their way back to each other.
Travis and Bay are also a beautiful supportive couple. It's just that Emmett and Bay are magical, they are Freida and Diego without the angry conflicts. There's always so much genuine passion and admiration between the two. All of their future partners will always be up for comparison. @@Book_Dragon2562
Totally agree! I was such a Bemmett Shipper but Emmett has hurt her so much and she doesn't deserve it. Travis is a better fit for her.
@@amywonderland9297 Travis can also hurt her. No relationship can escape that. Don't you think it was hurtful when Travis blabbed to his deaf friend that Bay was possibly raped? And he did only because he was jealous of her going on a date.. So he also made mistakes, let's not pretend that any of them are perfect.
I know everyone is mad that Bay and Emmet didn't end up together. I was mad too at first, but now I realize after watching them together, they never really seemed happy together after everything that had happened with Emmet and Simone. Bay may have forgave Emmett, but she always seemed sceptical of him and worried he would do that again. And when Bay was going through the whole situation with her and Tank, Emmett got mad and wouldn't listen to the whole story. She had to get Daphne to fly all the way out to LA to talk to him and tell the whole story. And even after they got back together, Emmett brought it up again awile after the situation. Bay always seemed to worry about Skye as well, so obviously there was a reason she didn't trust him. But the person who has always been there for her and a good friend to her was Travis. They just seem a lot happier and never fight as much. This scene also shows how much Bay cares about Travis.

Whenever I get nervous, I laugh a lot even when I don't want to. I don't mean to but I laughed a little in this scene. When Travis said that he was helpless though I cried. It's so heartbreaking to hear anyone go through this!
To me this is by far a very powerful scene of the entire season and others and Ryan Lane is a great actor without a shadow of a doubt. It was hard to keep a straight face and I got the chill down my spine once I saw this scene and it never will fail and it wrenched my heart. For Ryan to say to his mother:"I was helpless!" made this scene a phenomenal tear-jerker.
This scene still makes me cry my eyes out. I think we all needed to hear was that someone believes us. It takes a lot for us to come out and say what happened and if people don’t listen or trust our words... it’s hard. Hearing they believe us is so powerful. I love this scene.

As someone who has been through a similar situation I am so glad that I could tell people but that just makes this scene so much more upsetting... I also feel sorry for Bay because she'd just been assaulted and was now having to help her friend tell his mum just hours/days after xx

In all the scenes where the deaf ones couldn't talk they all made me cry when they did try and this one alone was the one that made me burst into tears and this has made me start learning ASL and so far I am doing very well
The sad thing is, Travis' situation is not unique. Sexual abuse is common with deaf kids, predators think deaf kids won't tell and very often they can't because, like Travis, their parents can't sign and often not many people in their lives can.

It was wonderful to see her calmly explain to Travis’s mother that she needs to tell him she sees what he means and be sympathetic towards her, despite it all, because Bay also knows that a mother-child relationship can be rebuilt even after so many years; she went through the same thing with Regina 🥰

I know how it feels to be taken advantage of. My foster brother molested me when I was 12 and I couldn’t say anything not be I was deaf because I’m not. He took advantage of me because I couldn’t yell or talk very well.
It’s a hard subject to talk to your parents about. It was always easier to talk to a complete stranger than your family..
I’m so sorry to hear that you went through this...but I hope 🤞🏻 and pray for you that you have come a long way since...and are striving well 🙏🏻👌🏻

Sad but, I miss the good old days of Switched at Birth. On the other hand, sense me and my girlfriend watched this show. We have learned most of the alpha bet from memory and I have asked my LSUA advisor if there is any ASL classes unfortunately no there isn't. So I had to choose Spanish which is also a great language to learn.

I was assaulted by my moms boyfriend when I was 15 he would kiss me and touch by breasts this is such a powerful scene because my mom still doesn't believe me so this hits home for me

I know his pain. Dude. Very very said seen. I know this off topic. Would a deaf person date hearing person. That know sign language very well. That a pro at Sign language. What I mean is would you date a sign language interpreter. And you was deaf I hope I did it sound mean by saying that. If I did I am truly sorry.
I’m now hard of hearing, but when I was full on hearing, 99% of the time, I dated a Deaf guy. My husband is fluent in ASL. It was such a HUGE part of my life, I couldn’t NOT marry someone that knew ASL.
