Woow, tailor sleeves are a challenge for most dressmakers (specifically for me) but this tutorial is just what I needed, thank you so much for your patience.
Wow! Using a a wool bias tape for the ease of the sleeve head is a wonderful idea! Thanks a lot Diane.
My goodness this is so beautiful! I loved that you where so happy it fit because I feel that way each time I move from one point of a pattern to the next.
Great explanation of what you are doing in each step. I like the way you explain important details like the steaming and the notches. I get a bit panicky with sleeves but I am going to give it a go now and replay this clip at each stage of the process. Greta

My fav teacher.🍎
Oh my. You are such an experienced tailor for attaching the sleeve to the bodice without the help of pins.
Hello Rina, yes i did sew quite a few sleeves, but in sleeve we have a lot of notches reference (every about 8 cm) I find that no pin gives me more freedom to move it individually. Diane
Nice trick with the bias woollen strip, thanx.
This is a great video. Your tutorials are a big help to me. You are so skilled!
I despise setting in sleeves so much, if it were up to me all garments would be sleeveless 😅

Your videos are great! I usually look at garments to get an idea how they're assembled, but seeing your explanation gives me a much better notion of how everything should be done, and each detail to remember.
Could you do a video about shoulder pads perhaps?
Thanks, this is a good idea, since they are coming back.
Diane

Vinaka.
Thanks. As usual, the best.
oh my God you'r the best teacher 😍😍😍 thank you so much
This is fantastic, should help with my projects a lot
can we use flat dacron (kind of like quilt batting) for that wool strip? I was thought to sew gathers around the sleeve head before attaching the sleeve to the body. then sew a flat dacron that already shaped like the sleeve head, they called it Padding Ring, but it just added that bump around the sleeve head.. The gathers helped, but it's really hard to set the ease.. So far your way is the easiest I've seen and it's always perfect.. I tried sewing the Padding Ring first before attaching the sleeve, but because it's already shaped like the sleeve head, it didn't help with the ease at all...

I love the use of wool to create ease. Great technique. :D
Al the best in 2020 and thank you very much. That is exactly what I was looking for. And have to make a little confession. I was never paying that much attention to notches 🙈🙊😂 Now I will.
Perfect teacher. I love your videos. Please help me out on two pieces sleeve measuring and cutting process.

Hey
You have great videos and I always enjoy watching them.
Do you have a video on how to attach a lining to this sleeve with active buttons?
Thanks
Well, damn. Miss Diane, you are amazing!!! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
Beautiful work! Thank you for a great video.
Your videos are so helpful!
It's exactly what i needed!!! Thank You soooo much!!!!😍👍👍👍
Perfect explanation Ms Di , Thanks .
Always enjoy your videos. Thanks~~~~~^^
Wooooooww amazing
Thanks so much much and I loved it 💐
Isn't there a worry that you will "over" ease when sewing the wool bias causing puckering....or "under" ease making it difficult to ease more because the wool has made the amount if ease permanent? I guess my question is how do you know how much to stretch when stitching the wool bias strip? You make it look so easy and elegant..thank you Very much... Veracruz
Very clear instructions! Thank you!
Fantastic video!
Such an awesome tutorial!! Thanks so much for the tutorial. So well explained.. Your instructions are clear. Thank you thank you ::)
this is great, thank you. Do you also have a video or raising the armhole for greater arm movement?
You are amazing golden hands u have
Diane
Oh my god u r awesome. Thanku mam for such a wonderful vedio.please make a detailed vedio on attaching linning in d coat. Thanks mam.
Really helpful tutorial! Thank you!
Thank you ,very nice ,you are kindly human.
Hello and thank you for your amazing lessons.
May you tell me what method are you teaching?
thanks a lot for sharing this! this is what i really need.
Love the tips can’t wait to try it
Hello DD! Greetings from Republic of Trinidad and Tobago! 😊. So is it only wool or fleece? Or is there another fabric l can use on the sleeve arm?
OK! Thanks very much!!
Your tutorial is indeed superb. However, this approach can as well be apply to attaching men's sleeve as well?
Hello Attah,
Yes, this technic is for all tailor sleeve, men, women and even kids. Also for jackets, coats and some dress.
Diane
Great. GOd bless you. Keep on the good work
I'm most impressed. Thank you.
Super video, thank you! I am just wondering if one could use bias tape instead of a wool cut on bias? My question is because of a thickness factor with different fabrics. Again thank you for a super way of inserting a sleeve.
Hello Laura, yes you could use tape bias, but in a tailor sleeve you want the thickness to fill the little bump. Diane
Thank you for the video, I have a question? if you are using a lighter material and gathering a sleeve for a shirt, can you use knit stripe to ease the sleeve in.
For gathers, you might use a mobilon (clear) elastic that you cut exactly the measure you have on the garment notch to notch
Diane Deziel what do u mean by "ease the sleeve in"??? can u plz tell me. i m trying to learn professional stitching from these tutorials n not familiar with the terms. the only "ease" i know abt is the one we add to the fitting measurements
geweldig! I try it just now.
thank you so much for this video, please could you do a tutorial for the jacket you were making in this video, thank you.
Many, many thanks for this.
You make it so easy, can I use any kind of fabric to make sleeve head or have to be certain kind of fabric? Also this technique can be applied to men suits?
My favorite is a soft touch, thick wool but an heavy fleece work pretty good too, it's even easier since it's stretchier. it's not the traditional thing for tailoring but no-one will know and it's so much easier.
Thank you very much
So much useful information thank you
Hi Diane, I have just heard you say that the notches should lie 10cm below centre of the crown. I forgot to insert the notches when making and cutting my pattern and muslin so I have been searching for this as I cannot tell if I have put my sleeves in back to front and in the wrong armholes. my sleeves are laying towards the back of the garment Should I swap them around?
Those notches 10 cm each side of the shoulder notch are only a reference to do the ease, the other ones single/front & double/back are the most important. If your sleeves are hanging towards the back you should definitely swap them.
Thanks Diane for your prompt reply.
Very helpful thank you 🙏🏿
great tutorial as always!
It's amazing! Could you let me know what is the yellow fabric what you attached sleeve? Is it a jersey?
It a thick wool but you could also use thick fleece
Thank you for the wonderful tutorial! I would like to ask you. If I put fleece, do I need to put the stabilizer to the hem and slit?
Hello Mariya
If your jacket is in fleece no need of stabilizer to the hem and slit , just for the closure system.
Diane
