Been a nurse 14 yrs. I've known broke nurses throughout my career. The one thing these nurses had in common, is the relationships they were in. The husbands/boyfriends they had didn't work. They supported these men plus all their kids. Its not easy, especially on one income. Another reason is poor financial choices. They all bought expensive SUV and took expensive vacations with these men that didn't contribute anything in the household. They didn't buy a house and continue to pay rent. Some didn't even contribute to 401k.
Got DAMN, you ain't lying 😢 I have officially become a broke nurse. Married my husband and he basically became my dependent. Never thought I'd be in this situation. It's embarrassing. I work OT and pretend it's not a shit show.

I am a CNA and I'm doing better than the Nurses I work with. I'm making $20 an hour. I have no kids, I rent an apartment, I don't have a car, I have a mo-ped (I'm in an urban area). My only expenses are clothes and my monthly gym membership. I did my pre-reqs for LPN, paid out of pocket. I'm going to pick up a few travel CNA contract for about a year to make up enough money to pay for the actual LPN program out of pocket also. Oh, and I have $5,500 in savings that I never touch and most of the RN's that I work with have 3+ kids, a huge house and car payment and are broke. My rent is $625. My first check covers all of my bills. I'm at the club once a week enjoying myself, my facebook pics reflect a nice lifestyle. Because my life is nice. I always pull in 10 hours of over time per week too. Life is about choices. Anyone can make better choices if they want. As far as clothes, I love the thrift store, shopping online, Marshall's, TJMax. My bills are always paid up 3 months ahead, too.
Oh and what's hilarious is that an LPN tried to call me BROKE for driving a Mo-ped (scooter) to work. I laughed. My mo-ped cost $1,200 literally 4 years ago. Gas & Insurance is low too. And I told her she's the broke one with her 4 kids and mini-van. Her face went BLANK. Shaking in disbelief.
I remember years back when I first started working a government job on the state level, one of the senior employees who'd been working at that facility for over 20 years was telling me how when she and her husband (who happened to work for the government at the city level) retire they will have a little over a million dollars to live on outside their government pension. She explained to me the importance of putting aside money towards the additional retirement account benefits that state employees can get. She said the moment she was eligible to sign up for it, she did so and only started with as little as $10. She said when she would work overtime/mandated hours and whatever pay increase she got, she would have it deposited into that separate retirement account and kept her lifestyle the same...no influx or upgrades or spending sprees. She said she knows how her peers at the workplace laugh and talk about her behind her back in terms of the way she dresses and how she doesn't put a lot of effort in her hair or place focus on buying things new. But the one thing that she has is no debt and a very healthy retirement income. She and her husband had three homes, which one was inherited, and of the other two included a vacation home/cabin by a fishing lake where they planned to spend a lot of their retirement days at. They sold the inherited house "because we really don't need three houses" as she said and used part of the proceeds to add to their retirement and renovate that dream vacation cabin of theirs which was a very modest cabin that they were able to purchase out right, no loan. She has since retired with her husband. Now, I don't know why she decided to share that information with me. But it has stuck with me ever since, and I truly appreciate that she did. That was going on 10 years ago.

Tawanda, you got those responses because your honesty and humility brings out the jealousy and hatred and self loathing in some who know you are speaking the truth but can’t bring themselves to admit it.that same bullying, adversarial, angry spirit is a VERY common trait seen in those nurses who love to attack, accuse, and berate other nurses. They are here hate-watching your videos so can criticize you. You are 100% correct. Unless a person is independently wealthy they ARE either broke or not far from it. All it takes is for you to lose your job and face challenges finding another one, or not being able to milk that overtime clock anymore, or having your hours cut. If you have credit card debt, student loans, a car note, monthly rent…whatever you owe makes you a debt slave to somebody else.As long as you owe that money you have to go punch somebody’s clock and spend many hours working every week to earn an income to make the payments. That by default makes a person broke.

Won’t be surprised if u have to do a part 4,5,6 ,7,8 . Ppl jx don’t get it. Old man once told me if u can’t go a whole year without working & comfortably pay bills ..YOU’re BROKE !!!!
My husband and I have been doing the Envelope system from Dave Ramsey for about 8-10 years and it has truly help us tackle our debts. I’m new to nursing and have been a stay at home mom for years prior to nursing. Being a stay at home mom thought me the value and importance of saving. I started gardening and couponing to stay under budget. I thank God that with one income at the time we were able to still travel and live comfortably. I still stick to both hobbies while being a nurse. Our 5 year plan is to pay off our home and student loans.
Ayyyyyeeeee at 30years old all I can day sooo glad I put read that prior to pandemic my Emergency Fund saved my ass..... glad to hear the elders doing the work too
That part every company has a budget! I agree. Also taking care of families members who will use them as paychecks also contribute to poor money management later in life leading to generational poverty because they never pay back the money that you gave them.
No lies told here! Here are just a few signs of brokeness: (1.) Earning 5,6, or 7 figures and spending all of those figures, because you've believed the hype about next pay period there will be more. (2.) Not having an emergency fund that doesn't hurt your regular income. If you can't build an emergency fund without wondering if you'll have enough for other important things you are broke. (3.) Not being able to take time off because you need the next pay period's funds. (4.) Paying bills and finding yourself hurting until the next check (5.) In line at the "returns" counter because you need gas, but got a whole Maybach outside. (6.) Nothing set up that allows your money to reproduce itself while you are sleeping (Stocks, Index's, ETF's, etc) Please remember, Broke isn't just what is or isn't in your bag, but what is or isn't in your mind!
I am broke😢 I am trying to dig myself out of the rat race. Fortunately, I'm not in any major debt other than my mortgage. And, I am almost done with my student loans🎉
Definitely thank you for sharing. The moment I read about how you decided to invest namely ETF, I got off this post to educate myself on what ETFs are. I have the standard Roth accounts and 401K plans and savings and I plan on investing in REITs but I've never heard of ETF before. THANK YOU again for sharing.
I receive this message! I’m active duty military (Army), and the number of soldiers I’ve met who have to work a second job to make ends meet, apply for WIC & food stamps, applying for loans because of unexpected emergencies..it’s mind blowing. And it takes a huge toll on mental health.
I 100% agree with what you said. These are people that don’t understand what true financial freedom is. They just see that they are making good money and they are living in the moment and if they don’t get it together most of them will be sorry later in their life bc the will see the mistakes they made.
@@AccordingToTawanda You're a thousand percent correct in your explanation. This generation is not trying to be in the rat race, the old corporate business model is failing and things are changing very fast. I'm in school to become an aircraft mechanic and I see the same thing you speak about when you talk about nurses going broke cause they're funding a luxury lifestyle they don't need. We all need to do our part to ensure a financially secure future for ourselves.
Thank you for this powerful message. I’m really trying to change my mindset to get out of this rat race. It’s crazy how we spend all of time working hard for things we think we need, then down the line, we spend all of our time trying to declutter that same stuff.
Nurse Tawanda thank you for this , I am 27yo and graduating with my RN this December and I am so THANKFUL you have drilled this not my brain . Just because you make more doesn’t mean you have to spend more . I plan on investing my money , keeping my paid off car , and not buying that luxury vehicle unless i can pay cash for it later down the line. I want to be FREE. I want to really help my people !
I am a recovering broke nurse. Not because of consumerism though 😂. I just never liked working. So ive been primarily a part time prn nurse 14/21 years.. I worked just enough to pay bills and savings account was bare with no investments. Thank God for my side business I am finally accruing some savings because im still a partime nurse
My definition of broke is when my liabilities are greater than my assets. So even though I can handle my debts easily they still outweigh my assets and I consider myself broke
Preach sis!!!! Yes, we have to start generating money without exchanging our time ...that's why I switched from full-time to part-time. I wanted my time back.
sounds about right many people are so blindly materialistic they'll do anything for crap they want even giving all their time away that they can't get back.
I’m an RN of 14 years and I’m broke. I was forced to go on LOA because my employer said they cannot provide accommodations for IBS. ILLEGAL. But I’m using this time to recoup mentally with my itty bitty $400 a week from disability I pay into. So I buy nothing and we have always cooked at home
I’m lost, according to study people who are making 100k a year are living paycheck to paycheck. Mind blowing. Living above their means. Someone who making a 6 figure should be living comfortably. For me I don’t make 6 figures but I’m doing pretty darn good for myself
I’m a surgical tech but this is why I don’t date nurses. Most not all need constant validation and spend unnecessary money to please friends and coworkers. Yes some of them are fine af but I refuse to live beyond my means. Yes travel pay does pay well in my profession but you don’t have to wear your income.
And yes I’m a nurse if 26 years. I’m always minding my business even when working. It can be done. Just change your mindset. I opened 3 businesses in a foreign country without speaking the language. I have a cook, driver, abd housekeeper. Total monthly less than what I would pay for 1 month rent.
Thank you for this on point message. I’m a nurse and it sad to see that many nurses are broke! Talking about they will just keep working 😮 Really! Who can give 100% at age 65, in any of these hospitals! Just fooling themselves.
Perhaps its because (some) nurses see death on a daily basis and are therefore subconsciously psychologically programmed to live life in the moment and not wait till later to enjoy themselves.
Amen sis you are speaking Truth! I am so grateful for you! To be transparent, I recently purchased a life insurance policy outside of my job. A policy that my children can eat off if something was to happen to me. I now have a financial advisor. Will be building my investment portfolio soon, adding IRA or Roth in addition to my 401k, paying off debt, and save save save! God has also gave me instruction for walking in His purpose, a business/ministry in nursing. I working towards that also. Im tired of being broke sis😔
Thanks for your channel. Financial literacy was not taught in school. I’ve learned everything in my own. I live in the Dominican Republic on less than a $1000 a month. I work a few months in the US. Best decision I ever made.
What made me look at finances closer is a financial show with two doctors, married to each other, and had 100 dollars between each other each payday. I was floored and it made me look closely at how I was spending.
Thanks for this!! I am done with the rat race. This encourages me to hold on to my dime and not give and give into consumerism. Am retired at 38 by saving and investing 50-65% of our household income. Paid off home, no debt, I owe nothing to nobody. I rather eat chicken and rice everyday then to go back to work. Anything that allows me to stay home am willing to cut out and doesn’t feel like self deprivation. Been sick all week but you know what I can take my precious time to heal, recover, rest without worrying about calling in.
Listen! I am an attending physician and I’m not gonna lie…..I be counting down to my next check everytime! I’m ashamed of how I’ve handled my finances and I feel guilty for not being a good steward over what I was given .
Your so right, I know a few nurses that's broke. They think because they can make the payment they can afford it. One that's very close to me have more liabilities than assets. we live in a world that everyone can look like they have money but they are really living on credit. Then you talk investing to them they start talking about loosing money but you literally give your money away on a daily basis. Give yourself some of that money and cut back on things that's not of importance.
I've never understood that mindset; they're scared and hesitant to invest because of the risk, but like you said, they give their money away on a daily basis to other things.
Twanda, say it louder!!!! I stand up and applaud you for speaking this truth. America, such a prosperous nation, a land of opportunity, with higher pay than other places yet with millions and million and millions of people in debt. We are bombarded every day to Consume, consume, consume, it's time to open our eyes and Budget, budget, budget!!!!
Thank you for the talking points about consumerism! Everything in this country is influencing us to consume and spend! Just say no! I love the store Express, but I realized that the promotions they have, $5-$15 off express cash, spend this amount -save that amount are all gimmicks! The quality is down and the cost is up! Now, I ignore and delete the DAILY text messages and emails about promotions because the truth is that I can shop in my closet! I have more than I need and I’m always looking to downsize!🎉
Thank you for this! Most of us don’t have anyone in our life that’s financially literate. It’s hard when your the only one! Thank you for being the voice that some of us wish we had and desperately need!
BAAAABBBYYYY!!! You have told NO lies! My Financial Services Coach/Investment Advisor sent me one of your videos and I became an IMMEDIATE fan! I am RN who also got licensed last year in Life Insurance as my side business and everything you are saying is in alignment with all I have learned over the last year…we have GOT to do betta! As nurses, we KNOW how to secure the ‘bag’ but the sad reality is that we often don’t know how to ensure that the ‘bag’ works for us! I’m changing that personally and am sharing what I am learning AND doing with as many as will listen. It’s sad though because so many are resistant to truth and change, but not me! Keep telling it like it is! Me and my NJ Queen Team are LOVING you!
OMG Tracey!! Thanks so much for sharing this with me. Girllllll we gotta do BETTA AS A PEOPLE, and as a NATION!!! I’m trying to put everyone I know or can reach ON!!!!! Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to share this with me ❤️🤗
thank you, i stopped shopping, i bought a kayak, I go fishing or kayaking or sitting on the beach on the lake watching the birds, kids playing in the water, it only cost $2 or 3 dollars gas to drive over there and bring some snacks. Or hiking to waterfalls, walk the dog, take the dog swimming etc... life is so much richer being in nature.
I love the passion you have about this topic. I’m not a nurse but I felt every word you just said. I’m working on getting better about my finances and just started budgeting. I don’t want my daughter to fall into the same consumerism and debt trap we fell into
This video is literally FIRE 🔥 wow. Thank you! Graduating from LPN program in 30 days. And im super focused on budgeting any earnings made.. i may have to work like a dog for the rest of my life but the money i ewen better go to my family.. not walmart
I clicked on your video and immediately noticed the TEMU ad under your video. Prime example of the message you're conveying! America is a spending nation, just as China is a producing one. Unfortunately this type of lifestyle makes people on that rat race of working to buy useless things. It's so refreshing to see a fellow nurse speaking against the traps of being a nurse and making money! And it's definitely true- I gained a lot of clarity on things once I finally quit my job, all of a sudden a lot of things a thought mattered, didn't. Time and family is what I realized mattered the most. Never regretted that decision! Great video Tawanda!!! Dont mind the internet thugs, they'll soon get your message❤
exactly it comes down to budgeting your money no matter how much you make if one job don't cover the bills you either get a side hustle or look where your money is going and see where you can cut things out to save money
This video came up in my rotation, so I’m a first time viewer. As I’m watching and listening, I can’t seem to find the lie in this video. This is wisdom and so necessary!
I love it some people just take things to heart I always feel people who get so offended by something it's something their struggling with or it pertains to them some way deep down the truth hurts and some people can't handle the truth we all know what you meant and you're 💯 correct😊
I'm not a nurse but I definitely agree with everything you are saying! Smh this rat race lifestyle AINT IT! Lol God Bless everyone watching this video! I pray you all find your purpose & receive unlimited income🙏🏽❤️
Girl… you out here coming for necks 👀 but we need it. The truth will set us free…. Thanks you for sharing and please continue to be real and use your platform to break ppl from that bondage ! God Bless you ❤
No, you ARE NOT lying. I'm not a nurse, but I can definitely tell you this much... I'm not trying to be working the way I do when I'm 60, if at all. I am on a mission, and I've got my husband on board. We are going to be aggressively trying to pay off our house (among other debt) so that by the time our youngest child completes college which right now, he's 16, I have the option to continue on or leave full-time employment altogether and maybe just do something part-time, or seasonal. I have since discovered and I definitely understand that the best thing that I can ever give myself is time and the only way I'm going to be able to have that time is to drastically reduce or eliminate the debt. So, between now and then, I am more deliberate with how I diversify my paycheck and implement ways to save or reduce costs around the house.
@@AccordingToTawanda I’m quoting from the video. I’m going through the same complaining about struggles instead of trying better things. It just spoke to me

Won’t be surprised if u have to do a part 4,5,6 ,7,8 . Ppl jx don’t get it. Old man once told me if u can’t go a whole year without working & comfortably pay bills ..YOU’re BROKE !!!!
The older man is a genius! Nothing but FACTS! Thanks so much for watching 🤗
@@AccordingToTawanda ofc he is !
Congratulation🎉 You all can do it!!!!
Ayyyyyeeeee at 30years old all I can day sooo glad I put read that prior to pandemic my Emergency Fund saved my ass..... glad to hear the elders doing the work too
👏🏽Consumerism is like a drug and there are a lot of addicts. Let’s spend less and save more.👏🏽
Amen!!! Thanks for watching 🤗
That part every company has a budget! I agree. Also taking care of families members who will use them as paychecks also contribute to poor money management later in life leading to generational poverty because they never pay back the money that you gave them.
Alllllll FACTS Michelle!!!! Thanks for watching ❤️
Facts, Facts, and More FACTS!!!!!!!! Thanks for watching ❤️
Exactly!!!! It’s terrible for our physical and mental health. Thanks for watching 🤗

Same and agreed!
I 100% agree with what you said. These are people that don’t understand what true financial freedom is. They just see that they are making good money and they are living in the moment and if they don’t get it together most of them will be sorry later in their life bc the will see the mistakes they made.
If they told you they not broke, all them broke hit dogs hollering real loud 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Fact😂😂😂❤️
@@AccordingToTawanda You're a thousand percent correct in your explanation. This generation is not trying to be in the rat race, the old corporate business model is failing and things are changing very fast. I'm in school to become an aircraft mechanic and I see the same thing you speak about when you talk about nurses going broke cause they're funding a luxury lifestyle they don't need. We all need to do our part to ensure a financially secure future for ourselves.
@@Mgm_Designs Amen!!!!!!👏🏾👏🏾
Thank you for this powerful message. I’m really trying to change my mindset to get out of this rat race. It’s crazy how we spend all of time working hard for things we think we need, then down the line, we spend all of our time trying to declutter that same stuff.
So TRUE! We will be budgeting, and working on our mindset over here on the channel. Thanks for watching and sharing your story ❤️
U right
Bam 💥
You are so right! It really puts things into perspective
Right it’s unequal
Nurse Tawanda thank you for this , I am 27yo and graduating with my RN this December and I am so THANKFUL you have drilled this not my brain . Just because you make more doesn’t mean you have to spend more . I plan on investing my money , keeping my paid off car , and not buying that luxury vehicle unless i can pay cash for it later down the line. I want to be FREE. I want to really help my people !
You already have the right mindset! You will do great❤️🤗
I am a recovering broke nurse. Not because of consumerism though 😂. I just never liked working. So ive been primarily a part time prn nurse 14/21 years.. I worked just enough to pay bills and savings account was bare with no investments. Thank God for my side business I am finally accruing some savings because im still a partime nurse
Muriel thanks for the transparency. You always keep it REAL! Thanks for watching and adding to the conversation ❤️
There’s not many people who like to work now days.
My definition of broke is when my liabilities are greater than my assets. So even though I can handle my debts easily they still outweigh my assets and I consider myself broke
Great point
Preach sis!!!! Yes, we have to start generating money without exchanging our time ...that's why I switched from full-time to part-time. I wanted my time back.
So TRUE! We gotta discover a better way! Thanks for watching 🤗
sounds about right many people are so blindly materialistic they'll do anything for crap they want even giving all their time away that they can't get back.
So TRUE! Thanks for watching 🤗
yeah! even our government got a budget and YET people are accusing the government beings wasteful. 😕
Facts!!!!!!
Praying that God blesses you! Have you considered doing any Remote Work from Home?
@@AccordingToTawanda Yes and it seems everyone wants to do that but I do have Indeed set to notify me if remote positions open up
I’m lost, according to study people who are making 100k a year are living paycheck to paycheck. Mind blowing. Living above their means. Someone who making a 6 figure should be living comfortably. For me I don’t make 6 figures but I’m doing pretty darn good for myself
Facts Justin!! However people are taking their money and buying THINGS! Leaving them broke with no plans for the future. Thanks so much for watching 🤗
I totally understand. Thanks for watching 😊
Agree
And yes I’m a nurse if 26 years. I’m always minding my business even when working. It can be done. Just change your mindset. I opened 3 businesses in a foreign country without speaking the language. I have a cook, driver, abd housekeeper. Total monthly less than what I would pay for 1 month rent.
Thank you for this on point message. I’m a nurse and it sad to see that many nurses are broke! Talking about they will just keep working 😮 Really! Who can give 100% at age 65, in any of these hospitals! Just fooling themselves.

This is AMAZING!! Thank you for sharing this with me. Reclaim your TIME!!!!❤️
I’ve seen this with people who just get into their career field out of college. They’re not used to money so they waste it.
Perhaps its because (some) nurses see death on a daily basis and are therefore subconsciously psychologically programmed to live life in the moment and not wait till later to enjoy themselves.
I am not a nurse but I really like this series. Looking forward to part 4 :D
Thanks so much ❤️
Amen sis you are speaking Truth!
OMG!!!!!❤️ Thank so much for sharing this with me! It means more than you know 😘
Thanks for your channel. Financial literacy was not taught in school. I’ve learned everything in my own. I live in the Dominican Republic on less than a $1000 a month. I work a few months in the US. Best decision I ever made.
That is Goals !! I want to do the same work a few months in the US and live in Europe/Africa

One other thing I did was put myself on a spending diet for a month. It stretched into 6 months. It’s like making a good habit to lose a few pounds…
@@TheScienceNerddAkemiIf they only knew, started investing with $5.00 and now have over four figures being invested 😊
Facts!!!!😊
Thank you for the talking points about consumerism! Everything in this country is influencing us to consume and spend! Just say no! I love the store Express, but I realized that the promotions they have, $5-$15 off express cash, spend this amount -save that amount are all gimmicks! The quality is down and the cost is up! Now, I ignore and delete the DAILY text messages and emails about promotions because the truth is that I can shop in my closet! I have more than I need and I’m always looking to downsize!🎉

Me and my NJ Queen Team are LOVING you!

thank you, i stopped shopping, i bought a kayak, I go fishing or kayaking or sitting on the beach on the lake watching the birds, kids playing in the water, it only cost $2 or 3 dollars gas to drive over there and bring some snacks. Or hiking to waterfalls, walk the dog, take the dog swimming etc... life is so much richer being in nature.
Amazing!! The time spent creating memories with your children is PRICELESS❤️

I approve this message 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you 😊
