Awesome video, the boulder 1:08:31 was developed by my friends and I back in the early 90's. We named it "The Ozzy" boulder because Ozzy was playing on the radio at the time we spotted it driving up the hill. We lived at the top of Candelaria and would boulder at the "Oz" every day after work. It's so cool to see someone working it. Nice route by the way.
fun vid! looked like a guy near the end of the movie free climbed the same route as the guy dry tooled near the start of the movie? if so then isn't the dry tooling damaging the rock for free climbing and since there is not ice on the route then dry tooling is wrong.!?
GREAT movie. I grew up in NM. It is an incredible state with incredible experiences and incredible people. It shaped me as a person. But I never climbed there. I moved to the east coast and now I climb. So this movie makes me want to come back! BTW I would love to find the music that played during the credits. Is that Was Elijah?
Well done!!!! Thanks for posting this. outstanding videography. creativity of the shots is great. for me though (& I'm no expert or renowned critic) it was a bit too long by the end because of the lack of a cohesive story. never the less looking forward to Vol.2 tremendously.
Beautiful video! I've known I needed to get up to NM for awhile now... just has a magic feel about it and it's seemed like a lot has been going on. Can anyone tell me what the route at 1:06:00 is? Looks really sick. Thank you very much for sharing!
+flanj munkee presents Jarred is shooting the sequel right now deep water soloing around the Caribbean. Its coming out this spring or next fall... He is locking down another big name or two in it I watched them filming in St. Lucia it was sick!
what a great video. i randomly got into it and found it great. Very good camera work and post. Great quality. Climbing is very good and the kids and gals are very talented, very young yet talking seriously. Whan an inspiration. I may only dislike a lil bit the "restaurant" section. it's really a bit too much of an endorsement for a climbing video. It sounds just too "local". Keep it up with the great work, looking forward for part 2.
It's nice to see a climbing video without all these PETZL and The North Face logos every 2 seconds! Amazing Job! The Contrast in general needed a little push, but nice movie indeed! Is there a soundtrack for this? Str8 Up Media
So, in the opening section it appears a guy is wearing rock climbing rubber while ascending with ICE TOOLS! Is this the norm in Albuquerque? I know if this were seen at any other majorly developed CRAG in the United States the climber would likely get their asses kicked. It destroys the natural rock and is ethically dismissive to sport climbers, boulderers, and the like. I understand mixed climbing and while the video is mostly good for positive climbing publication and awareness, ice climbing tools DO NOT belong in the sport climbing arena. Period. Poor decision!
Yup, its official... The section with the guy climbing with ice tools shows clearly he isn't using rubber "stoppers" on his ice axes or ANYTHING to protect the rock. This is disgraceful, an abomination to climbing ethic.
I do not live in NM, but I would guess this is not the case. He most likely bolted those routs specifically for mixed climbing. Moreover this is usually done on rock that is not suitable for regular climbing meaning it is too loose or brittle. It is true that mixed climbing should not be done on established (or possible future) sport or trad climbs.
In the scene there are clearly chalk lines on the route he is climbing. It appears as if it's a developed crag; in fact, one can clearly see other chalk lines on either side of him as well. Thumbs down!
To the woman wearing the helmet... that's what you are worried about? Climbing huge rock faces and you are worried about hurting your head? That's some kind of helmet... does it help when you plummet 100-200 feet to the ground? I think what you all do is amazing. I have trouble watching it without my stomach turning. Stay safe.
There are many reasons that climbers wear helmets. Rockfalls, preclipping falls, clumsily banging your head on the rock while climbing, rockfalls while belaying (you get knocked out and your climber could die), freak lead falls... The list goes on. I know a number of people who have had serious accidents and survived due to their helmet. I also know somebody who suffered a severe brain haemorrhage from not wearing a helmet. Climbing isn't dangerous, but not following safety procedures whilst climbing is.
Asher Soryl Sorry Asher. It was a failed attempt at sarcasm. As I said in my post, "I think what you all do is amazing. I have trouble watching it without my stomach turning. Stay safe."
Watch nfl players answer questions about how a game went, after you watch these kids talk and climb. Lol it's fucking hilarious! "The uhh magnitude, da magnitude, uh of the game..."
Is that guy dry tooling on free climb sport routes!? Seriously leave the dry tooling to ice and high alpine winter routes. Terrible precedent to set. Other idiots are going to see stuff like this and ruin classic rock climbs with ice tools.
Briezi Beauchamp That's funny, I thought it came off as an advertisement for Yerba Mate... Anyway, it's an awesome video. Makes me want to grab a can of Yerba and hit the stones.

kslack thanks for share it, i love the stories behind the routes :) Saludos.
Your friends - fucking liar!!!
"My friends and I" would imply he worked the route as well.
How has this not received more view and likes?? Great stuff here guys.
I think because it has only been up for a couple of days, Roland. Give it time. Might not go viral! but word will spread. \m/
Awesome! I grew up in Placitas and it's so cool to see such a great representation of New Mexico through climbing.
The editing on this is superb
Thanks for posting this, great video.
loved it there back in the 80s
soda you speak of is Fizzy Bubbly! Great movie, thanks!

Chris Summit yeah fuck dry tooling
New Mexico climbing/bouldering looks rad! :)

Loved the Sandia Crest, did a lot of hiking when I lived in Albuquerque...
16:02 Does nobody mind when you do this in NM?
Capn Charlie Init, do that round my way you'd be using the leashes to pull them axes out of your arse.

What song is at 40:53 in the background? Would greatly appreciate it!

+Rose Wagner wicked! I've become obsessed with a deep water solo vacation so this is perfect timing!

Looks good and not crowded
They certainly like their yerba matte
Merica!
Dry-tooling is so strange to me. Seems like it'd damage the rock way more, right?
It's like climbing for weaker hands
this guitarist boy is a daaaaaaamn good guitarist
whats the name of the song starting at 50:20 ?
0:59 Is that in the organs?

Jonathan Hogue I noticed the chalk as well. Could be bad form, just giving the benefit of the doubt.
Jonathan Hogue wouldnt putting metal in a crack and chipping the holds off inside the crack be on par with the "bad ethics" you're describing?
Slacklining isn't in your head. It's about balancing the body mass.
fun stuff, besides the one guy are all climbers in NM youngsters? just giving you a hard time, keep up the good work
Mix climbing, I never heard of it. I may look in to it when I am old and my fingers become jello
What's the soundtrack for the movie?
Was this video sponsored by Mate or something?
Patrick MacLane seem to be :D guayaki :D
Nice
go girl!!

Does Jamie Robinson have like a facebook page or something? She has a lot of potential, I'll like to follow up.
Narrator dude sounds like Ron Kauk
Chronicles of CHOSSSSSS

Really not a fan of this. Metal deteriorates rock. It's ruining routes for future generations...
Yeah rain deteriorates rock too, get a grip pansy
@thecathedor yeah water has way more of an effect. Actually water is whats going to deteriorate the metal which deteriorates the rock
@thecathedor water is the strongest force on earth
@@angelofranco9748 dry tooling on sport routes unnecessarily destroys the rock and is avoidable.
I agree. But so does oil, Co2, fast food, and chalk. There's bigger battles to fight..
yeah fuoco! Roland Dyens!!!
so its a long yerba commercial...got it
Is that guy dry tooling on free climb sport routes!? Seriously leave the dry tooling to ice and high alpine winter routes. Terrible precedent to set. Other idiots are going to see stuff like this and ruin classic rock climbs with ice tools.
tahoeclimber he is bolted those lines in areas that are pretty bad rock quality that would have otherwise not been climbed if he didn't bolt them.
This video comes off like an advertisement. Come climb in new Mexico ad
It's a video with all local climbers, and they love where they live. Makes me think they should also consider using it for😊
That also
Briezi Beauchamp That's funny, I thought it came off as an advertisement for Yerba Mate... Anyway, it's an awesome video. Makes me want to grab a can of Yerba and hit the stones.
You can post this video on TV for all the world to see by going to BeRenown.com. Be Renown by going to BeRenown.com.
