I don't think...hmm...I don't want to be "that guy" and it's probably a accent thing, but i'm pretty sure the pronunciation for Raen is closer to "Rain" rather than "Rawn". Of course this video is a good...like 6 months old by now. Though to add a bit of positivity, your art is pretty nice
Hmmm yeah, that'd make sense, since I am *guessing* that the sound they're aiming fore is close to the Ren (zoku) as they're called in the Japanese. :/ Will admit I was in the dark when I recorded this, as none of the official sources state a pronounciation rule for this (aside of for Auri), and the amount of Raens in the story that are by voice referred to by sub-race rather than just being called Au Ra is... well, close to non-exitstent. So when I couldn't find that, I just defaulted to what made most sense from my perspective, which - you guessed it - is influenced by my Scandinavian accent. ^^; Good point, but sadly too late for this video. ^^;; I am happy you liked the art at least. ^^ Thank you for swinging by and have a wonderful day! :D
@@FinalFay I am Scandinavian too and actually confused on why your accent would make you say "rawn" as the most natural thing for me would be to say "rain". A+E is never aw in scandinavia. (Don't know if you are Swedish but it would be more natural to expect the sound like the letter æ). Scandinavians would be closer to the japanese ren in that respect.
Oooh, interesting. I would never have thought that! :) Well, then the lore panel's analogy is entirely off! XD But I guess their point still stands: Languages evolve when there's physical distance between the countries it is spread to. But thank you, I did not know of that before! :D
This is a myth. Both versions of English that exist today are entirely removed from the original very old English that existed before. But Americans like to say this to feel special. Yes the pronunciation of American English is closer to the 1600s English, but none of the versions that exist today is at all close to the very old English that existed before the 1600s. You need to define "original" before you make a point like this.
@@TheSilverwing999 Actually I don't have to do anything. No it is not a myth. Assuming you're correct all it means is that I missed one small piece of information but My statement still holds true. And what's with the "Americans like to say this to feel special" are you mad about it? Was that really necessary? Don't be an ass, no one else is so maybe leave that shit behind next time. People are FAR more receptive when you aren't insulting them.
literaly every Xaela playercharacter in the game should be forced to read the entire Wiki about the Xaela tribes ( ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Xaela ), to then rethink their character choice (and naming), then be forced to agree to the naming convention, then sign a contract that agrees upon their tribal heritage (Kha tribe) which leaves them all with only one surename to pick (Kha), and if they don't agree, their characters get deleted. Would cleanse the world from about 75% of modern Dragoon players, PLUS, a Xaela outside their own homelands would be a really rare sight in Eorzea, a true attraction... Totaly realistic and lore conform :) hey, one can dream.... xD
Oh, there are certainly a need for telling people what they're signing up for. I recall talking to a player who to his horror found out that his character likely was married to a horse, and a girl who came from a tripe where they... saved on the water. ^^;; I wish the game had taken the time to explain the tribes better in the character creator, but hey. ^^ It is all just flavour for those interested in tasting it, I guess. ^^ To most players it won't matter too much.

I believe we all deal with something in our personnality doing creative things, I wish there is some magic to cure that but at same time, this isn't so much noxious to self to be perfectionist, just have to put some limit I believe. (Trying to speak to my brain here) xD
That would be definitely an interesting topic to listen and speak about and yeah that "drawing tutorial/inspiration" video idea might be great and give even more originality to your original series of videos. You already have lot of impressive original ideas as much as I can tell (not gonna search deep in youtube to find something similar tbh) but that would be a real plus to your channel and might get the interest of lot of people! :D
Will admit I was in the dark when I recorded this, as none of the official sources state a pronounciation rule for this (aside of for Auri), and the amount of Raens in the story that are by voice referred to by sub-race rather than just being called Au Ra is... well, close to non-exitstent. So when I couldn't find that, I just defaulted to what made most sense from my perspective, which - you guessed it - is influenced by my Scandinavian accent. ^^; Good point, but sadly too late for this video. ^^;;
I am happy you liked the art at least. ^^ Thank you for swinging by and have a wonderful day! :D

I am Scandinavian too and actually confused on why your accent would make you say "rawn" as the most natural thing for me would be to say "rain". A+E is never aw in scandinavia. (Don't know if you are Swedish but it would be more natural to expect the sound like the letter æ).
Scandinavians would be closer to the japanese ren in that respect.
Pfff I call them Rah En
Just want to throw this out there. The English used in the U.S. is actually closer to the original then the English used in the UK
Totaly realistic and lore conform :)
hey, one can dream....
Yeah.. Xaela is pretty messed up hilariously and traumatically.
