Thanks for the vid, Fay. Roes are something that kinda fell under my radar while playing, so it's nice to hear about them. They kinda fill the "orc-like race" in 14, so I'm glad to find out that Sharlayan was founded by one. It's a really nice way to break the stereotypical "big strong race isn't that smart" thing we have going on in most fantasy settings.

In fact, I think I didn't even really see them at all?! *blushes* First character I made was an AuRa (because I joined with SB, and I have a huuuuge dragon collection, so... go figure), but I quickly found that they lacked something for me. And after running into the Admiral, I ended up fantasiaing to a roe, and ran up till SB as a roegadyn. ^^ I am really happy that the game has shown them to be big gentle giants (of various amounts of wits) and super intense mages - and a lot smarter than one initially might think judging from their orc-esque-looks! Wish there was a bit more lore, but hey, what is there is pretty interesting, I feel. :)
Are you planning on doing lore for all the races? I'd love to hear you talk about the Hrothgar. I thought about Fantasia-ing into one, but the lack of hair and hat options for them makes me sad.

As for the Hellsguard math problem; I don't have a source on it or anything, but maybe it's the firstborn son AND firstborn daughter that get to stay? That might keep the population number a bit more stable. But it sounds like such a fascinating place, and I hope we get to go there someday. And congratulations! 1000 subscribers is just around the corner now. If you're after suggestions for a milestone video, what about 'Drawn to Lore: Your Questions!' Put out a video people can ask their questions in the comments of, and do a lottery for the subscribers who asked questions, to see who gets drawn in the vid while you answer them?

I will make a video where I ask for questions (can do that tomorrow), hopefully get some questions, and then make my "We have passed 1000 subscribers!"-video where I attempt to answer them to the best of my ability, while drawing. ^^ And hells(guards) bells, I will buy that explaination! Ohhh, I've always wondered how that ship ended up in the Peaks. Now I know! I also had no idea there was a famous Roegadyn Astro in the lore, and as a Roe/Astrologian main I found that really interesting to learn about.

The Roes do need more love. Both in lore and for players playing them. Also for video ideas I would love to see the story of Edda Pureheart. Most players only vaguely know about her from what seems like a couple innocent appearances in the early MSQ during the first three dungeon runs and some may never see the rest of the story.
This is brilliant! And I loved that story. It was so heartbreaking, and the first run into the game I didn't realize how significant that meeting with that band of adventurers was! So when I ran PotD and the dungeon... *shivers* It was so, so sad. And so fantastic that they tackled that, too. :3 So absolutely, I will put that on the list!
@@FinalFay Oh gods yes, please, I'd love to see you do a lore video on Edda as she's my number one favourite npc in the game and her story broke my heart. I've seen a couple of people do videos on her, but they all seem to focus on the "love story" of Edda and that abusive piece of shit fiancé of her and it just... Makes me so frustrated. Edda deserved so much better.

What Nacho said. ^^ It is an emote you get from completing (or almost completing) the Four Lords quests, which you start in the Ruby sea by talking to Soroban (it's one of those purple exclaimation quetst. I think he's in the north-western corner of the map). ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/The_Four_Lords_Quests It also has a good dungeon and fights in it, so it is generally worth the time to do, and the emote is one of the ones I use most of the time, so I personally get a LOT of mileage out of it! And you can unsync that content now, so gather a few friends and it should be a breeze. ^^

I hadn't thought this would become so relevant to the story, but I am now fairly certain that this guy will become very central to explaining the Sharlayans and how that guy got inspired by the stars (or maybe nudged by somebody else) into building that ark and sail south. Because all of that seems *very* guided, doesn't it? And I can understand how they may then come to think they know which way the world is going, but like you say, stuff is no longer running on the expected script. Speculations, speculations! :D The thick plottens and everything! I am looking SO much forward to Endwalker! :D
...can't help myself, I love your videos :) I'm german btw, and my hobby is delving way too deep into the old norse and proto-germanic culture, including the language. My old norse isn't fluid but I get along, concidering the fact that it's a "dead" language. From the old norse point of view, the Roegadin names aren't that strange at all :) (not that I'd ever play one... just saying)

@@FinalFay thank you. It's actuay not this "dead". Icelandic consists of around 75% old norse, modern pronounciation. I prefer the old (and really dead but reconstructed) pronounciation. Even though Iceland has fairies and elves, the old norse had dragons. :D

Roegadames in particular are just.. * chefs kiss * I got real confused about the names being Scandinavian in nature, cause I'm Scandinavian (Norwegian, to be precise) and they make absolutely no sense to me. But looking more at the map and the pronounciations of the names and such I think I can see a similarity to Islandic! I think Island was also in general the bigger portion of the Vikings (don't quote me on that, I'm a horrible Scandi with no knowledge of my own history), so it would make sense to base the Roes on the sort of Islandic viking mathingies? Really fascinating tbh! Loved this video, thank you for it ^^

About the language, *clears throat embarrassedly* so, right, first off: I totally forgot to put the link to the name site in the description. Fixed that now! Sorry! XD But go take a look at it. I am sure you're onto something with icelandic, but even so, I understood more than I thought I would. I myself am from Denmark, so some are straight up still used in the same spelling, and some I can see an older spelling in it, like Ask being Aske (ash), Anka being Anker (anchor), Blei being bleg (pronounced Blej, meaning pale), Falk being Falk (falcon), Hund being hund (dog), Tragg being Træg (slow) and so on and so forth. I should likely go through all of them and see how many make straight-up sense to me but I'd say around half-give or take. Then, of course, comes the discussion whether or not we count as demi-Germans, considering our proximity and linguistic exchange with the country, but hey, let's not open that one here, or we will have several people rush us! XD

I guess when they're smudged together into names my brain gets a bit confused. I love learning new things, especially about things I'm as invested in as I am in this game. I'm impressed with the amount of detail SE have actually put into this world! The Roes do need more love. Both in lore and for players playing them.
Also for video ideas I would love to see the story of Edda Pureheart. Most players only vaguely know about her from what seems like a couple innocent appearances in the early MSQ during the first three dungeon runs and some may never see the rest of the story.
This is brilliant! And I loved that story. It was so heartbreaking, and the first run into the game I didn't realize how significant that meeting with that band of adventurers was! So when I ran PotD and the dungeon... *shivers* It was so, so sad. And so fantastic that they tackled that, too. :3 So absolutely, I will put that on the list!
@@FinalFay Oh gods yes, please, I'd love to see you do a lore video on Edda as she's my number one favourite npc in the game and her story broke my heart. I've seen a couple of people do videos on her, but they all seem to focus on the "love story" of Edda and that abusive piece of shit fiancé of her and it just... Makes me so frustrated. Edda deserved so much better.
@@KeyJester She really did, and the way they delivered that story is great and impactful, buuuut to too many people it's too disjointed and with a lot of time in between and they have likely forgotten the poor little healer by the time they run the dungeon or Palace of the Dead. ^^;; And I would love to dive back into that again, myself. So, this brilliant idea absolutely goes on the to-do-list! :D

It's the "hum" emote, I think you get it from the end of the trials at the end of stormblood
What Nacho said. ^^ It is an emote you get from completing (or almost completing) the Four Lords quests, which you start in the Ruby sea by talking to Soroban (it's one of those purple exclaimation quetst. I think he's in the north-western corner of the map).

It also has a good dungeon and fights in it, so it is generally worth the time to do, and the emote is one of the ones I use most of the time, so I personally get a LOT of mileage out of it! And you can unsync that content now, so gather a few friends and it should be a breeze. ^^

Indeed! I hadn't thought this would become so relevant to the story, but I am now fairly certain that this guy will become very central to explaining the Sharlayans and how that guy got inspired by the stars (or maybe nudged by somebody else) into building that ark and sail south. Because all of that seems *very* guided, doesn't it?
And I can understand how they may then come to think they know which way the world is going, but like you say, stuff is no longer running on the expected script. Speculations, speculations! :D The thick plottens and everything! I am looking SO much forward to Endwalker! :D

I'm german btw, and my hobby is delving way too deep into the old norse and proto-germanic culture, including the language. My old norse isn't fluid but I get along, concidering the fact that it's a "dead" language.
From the old norse point of view, the Roegadin names aren't that strange at all :)

@@FinalFay thank you. It's actuay not this "dead". Icelandic consists of around 75% old norse, modern pronounciation. I prefer the old (and really dead but reconstructed) pronounciation. Even though Iceland has fairies and elves, the old norse had dragons. :D

I got real confused about the names being Scandinavian in nature, cause I'm Scandinavian (Norwegian, to be precise) and they make absolutely no sense to me. But looking more at the map and the pronounciations of the names and such I think I can see a similarity to Islandic! I think Island was also in general the bigger portion of the Vikings (don't quote me on that, I'm a horrible Scandi with no knowledge of my own history), so it would make sense to base the Roes on the sort of Islandic viking mathingies? Really fascinating tbh! Loved this video, thank you for it ^^

About the language, *clears throat embarrassedly* so, right, first off: I totally forgot to put the link to the name site in the description. Fixed that now! Sorry! XD But go take a look at it. I am sure you're onto something with icelandic, but even so, I understood more than I thought I would.
I myself am from Denmark, so some are straight up still used in the same spelling, and some I can see an older spelling in it, like Ask being Aske (ash), Anka being Anker (anchor), Blei being bleg (pronounced Blej, meaning pale), Falk being Falk (falcon), Hund being hund (dog), Tragg being Træg (slow) and so on and so forth. I should likely go through all of them and see how many make straight-up sense to me but I'd say around half-give or take.
Then, of course, comes the discussion whether or not we count as demi-Germans, considering our proximity and linguistic exchange with the country, but hey, let's not open that one here, or we will have several people rush us! XD
@@FinalFay Ooh, I've not seen that page before. That is really hecking interesting! I definitely see the resemblance while just looking at the words themselves like that. I guess when they're smudged together into names my brain gets a bit confused. A lot of those words are, indeed, the same in Norwegian (aske, falk, hund), and I had no idea they were used in Roegadyn language like that, thanks for pointing it out! I love learning new things, especially about things I'm as invested in as I am in this game. I'm impressed with the amount of detail SE have actually put into this world! This is really really cool :D
