Your cinematography is also hilarious, thanks for all the extra effort in setting up the shots, I feel like I'm really running around with you. So fun!
Honestly, this video reminded me that I really need to figure out how to make gifs, because I would use gifs of excitedly walking into the dressing room going "oh my god oh my god oh my god" and confidently proclaiming "I get to decide what's a sin, this is MY HOUSE!" like every day. Seriously, there are always chaotic notable quotables in these videos, but those two just hit different.
Okay, so your boo got a SHAQ-ET?!?!?! That idea made my mind giggle, so I had to share. Also, the town I live in has a thrift store like this, with anything and everything in it. The moment with the brand new BR dress next to the vintage tracksuit wonder was very relatable.
Oh good, I was worried the sweatsuit of my dreams wouldn’t come with the shoulder pads and south western appliqués 😂 I can sleep soundly tonight! Love you Kathleen!
I really like that scarf for the weird but cool color combo and the splotchy design. I'm fairly certain there's a good chance that the Lolly charm is a dog collar charm. It looks like the kind of dog tag that gets slid onto the dog's collar, instead of dangling, so it's quieter and looks cuter. I can never find good dress shorts like that in my size. They look so cute on you! It's definitely a style I've seen mostly on like Pinterest and have wanted to try. On the subject of living your most authentic life, I recentlyish got top surgery (Aug 2023) and I have felt better about my body in the past 8 months or so than I have in quite a long time. I know it's not a small thing to do to live authentically, but it really is the thing that has made the most difference in my life the past year.
In the last year I’ve realized I don’t enjoy wearing dark colors (esp black and gray). I feel heavy and it feels like the colors don’t help w keeping my natural sadness at bay. So now I wear (and knit and sew with) BRIGHT🌈 colors! (Le sadness is still there but it doesn’t feel as consuming when wearing brights). ☀️🌟❇️💟🎀🧿🎾🍊🍭🍬🍯
“Art aunt” is the perfect way to describe your vibe! I find myself watching these videos before bedtime because even though it’s wacky and chaotic, I feel so comfy and soothing. Exactly like being snug and strapped into the backseat of a car, heading towards an adventure with your fun aunt who helped you cut school for a family emergency except the emergency is that it’s amusement park weather.
My favorite thing to do to thrift finds that aren't quite right: shorten/crop it, change cheap buttons for interesting vintage buttons, cut dresses into tops and skirts.
I love to know too because it gives you an idea of how pricing is in different parts of the world and if a store has good pricing and it’s on one of my travel routes I will detour to check it out.
Just fyi….many sewing machines…not fancy ones…just basic ones…will sew the buttons on ….put the feed dogs down so the fabric doesn’t move…and put on zig zag with width adjusted to hole distance size…..take the presser foot off and put arm down on button to hold button. Each button will take approx. 1 minute. 7 buttons…no adjustments 7 minutes..look in your instruction book for your machine for individual instructions…also darts are great…if you wish flatten dart…you can cut inside dart down center and sew each side down. I think what you did is genius and in no way is this a critical comment about your thrift flip. Your just dive in energy is fabulous.
Ngl watching your vids helped me start dressing how I want and who would guess the little goth kid from the 90’s and 00’s loves wearing The Craft style everything lol
Ahh! I’m so happy you were in my area! Thank you for including a little bit of me meeting you. I still feel so lucky! 🍀 A thrift with me and a thrift flip! Sooo good. Bummer that little set didn’t fit. It would have been so good!
Just got my button basket out last night to zhuzh up a thrifted denim shirt, it's kismet! My thing recently has been adding colossal patch pockets to everything, often in bold West African prints. If I can look like a four year old art niece in a smock all the time, I'm doing it right.
0:39 my biggest regrets have always been skipping out on the coats during summer. reminder: the cold will return, but that awesome looking jacket/coat will not. passed up an amazing leather bomber jacket like 3 years ago and i'm still thinking about it.
I found a black vest (on the street during an ice storm... someone had tried to use it to get traction for their tires BUT it was fine and yes I am a raccoon) and it is a little loose, so the dart tip is super helpful!
I wanted to say thank you for your channel. I'm pregnant, most of my clothes don't fit anymore, I started feeling like I was loosing myself. But your videos helped me get creative with accessories and gett backs to my old hobbies (drawing, making jewelry, crocheting, etc.)❤
On trying something new to discover who you are: I started getting obsessed with florescent and neon colors. Haven't worn those colors since the late 80's (when they were hella trendy). But its winter in Northern Michigan and wearing super bright colors is helping bring some joy into my life. AND as a woman nearing 50, the neon makes me feel like I'm revolting against invisibility. Like, I DARE you not to see me.
Over the last week or two I’ve been embroidering some maternity overall shorts. They have a sunflower for each of my children. I’ve really been trying to embrace my art mom style.
Your clown sign ideas make me feel like you’re just a couple steps away from creating something like Gladys on Friends. 🤗 I love watching your videos to get glimpses into your varied and beautiful creativity.
I love thrifting jewelry! I used to over-accumulate but I work at a museum & let the curators dissemble it to use in exhibit building - it’s nice to have non-valuable antiques to cut up, glue, etc - so I can start shopping again! lol…
i love hearing the prices when you feel like its a steal! i think its really greant, iunno anti-flex? when you get something for super cheap also i love this chaotic stewardess fit you have by the end of the vid
For me, your videos have the twee-liteful sensibility of the films of Ray and Charles Eames. You are a gift to the world, K. Thank you. And, ps, I, too, have put odd buttons on my thrifteds, but not nearly as often enough as I should!
The thumbnail on this bad boy is GORGEOUS, the colors, the framing. It just hits. Also, i would love to see the lolly clip on a chonky silver chain omg.
kathleen!! ur videos always give me the same feeling as coming home from a long day of 3rd grade and tuning into pbs kids. ive got my apples and pb and im ready 2 enjoy 😌😌
Sometimes I'm in a cranky mood/having a bad week, and Kathleen is the only thing that gets my spirits up again. Thank you for being so much fun Kathleen!!
I like the idea with the ceramic hands for the clown piece, you could do it so one hand holds a juggle ball, one holding fake flowers, and one holding those clown scarves that are tied together.
Thrifting is still a kind of new hobby for me, and one of my favorite things about it is that I can try out new styles that I might be too nervous to invest in if I had to buy the pieces new, because it's ok if I only wear a top once or twice and then give it away if it was only 5 bucks. I've been thinking about my wardrobe more creatively, layering pieces, and even planning to paint some pants and maybe switch out some buttons on an old blazer (thematically appropriate for this video lol). It's very fun and kind of freeing to tailor what I wear to express myself, and I have to say Kathleen is a big inspiration for doing that
OMG... one of those little haunted dresses would be perfect for a project that I'm working on! Great updo on the vest... makes me want to break out my jars of vintage buttons. x
I recently discovered I can custom tailor jumpsuits by cutting the top off and re-sewing it along the waistband to fit my incredibly short torso (mad scientist laugh). There’s nothing more satisfying than taking an item you thought you couldn’t wear and fitting it perfectly with nothing more than a sewing machine and a crazy dream…
Got me a darning/weaving loom and began on my woolen socks then graduated to a worn old gardening jumper and am about to embark upon the large black cashmere/merino roll-neck jumper I have had for years and worn to threads but just cannot find a replacement for. Scared, but have a handful of mixed-blues, black, and grey little skeins of cashmere darning bits from Etsy and am hoping for success. Having spent the past couple of years cannibalising my worn linens to visibly patch/boro/sashiko my less-worn linens, I am now visibly mended from top to toe, and have not bought a new or thrifted item of clothing for three years now. Love your vest, love your home finds, loved that thrift store, and love your videos. Thank you.
Tbh finding your channel and listening to you talk about clothes and style and art has made me so incredibly powerful in myself and my fashion and confidence!!!!!! Kathleen!!!!! Thank you!!!!!!
I don't need a POV for this, this is my life. 😂 This thrift is super cute!! I want to make a lil weekend trip to the Cinci area and do some thrifting and stuff w some friends, you have given me a new one to add to the list! Loved all the shenanigans in this one lol
Kathleen! - Next time you want to visit Cincinnati, come visit with me on the Westside! I've had a thrifting "career" since the mid-80's! I was also a style blogger in the early 00s and have a nice selection of vintage things that I collected over the years of picking, digging and pure blessings from the thrift gods.. I'll show you some fun pieces and gift you sumpthin too! 🙏😄 I can show you around the oldest part of the city and show you what this side of town has to offer - Westside Bestside 🫡! From the teeny vintage shops to a few of the larger St Vincent/Salvation Army/Goodwill stores. As a transplant from KY (moved here in 93, great story too) I have been to most of the shops in the city. I was told when we moved here that you would never need to leave the Westside. Ever! Not quite true, haha but we got some of the very best thrift shops to explore! Let's go out West together! It'll be a blast 😸 Btw, the fluff are cottonwood fluffers. Very messy indeed.
I recently poured out all my extra buttons and cleanup felt hard, so I just put them in a cute bowl. I've been having the bowl on my coffee table as a sensory toy! Its fun to stick your hand in or sort through or stack them :)
Highly agree with the personalizing everything you can to make it feel more like yourself - it’s very satisfying and I’ve been doing it for a few years now never felt more comfortable!
You said say it to my face and Kashi Said Ok! Here I am! lol He's so precious. 🥰 I love knowing the price of stuff just cause it feels really good when you get a good deal. And it's good to know the pricing of various stores and chains.
Ahh your videos straight up lower my blood pressure lol. I love the thrift flip, both the style of the vest and the sentiment behind that. I feel like I've been considering this a bit recently but haven't articulated it quite the way you did - customized to life mood board and aesthetic is totally it! And it's the journey of it, cuz I think we're told that we Must Have Our Life Together when in reality it's like, if I had my life together I wouldn't go thrifting and enjoy that fun experience, DAWG. We stan the process of self-discovery and self-expression!
I agree! Customizing is so satisfying. I'm not too extreme, but even knowing I've hemmed my jeans just the way i like them, or polishing a pair of thrifted shoes to spiff them up a bit, makes me feel a tiny bit more original or unique. No biggie for someone else, but i know what i did!! 😅❤❤❤
Pinning tip, if your body is reasonably symmetrical, you put the garment on inside out and pin to shape. Check it on you with right side out before sewing. Watch out for those little pricks! ;)
Watching your videos has absolutely inspired me to find myself again. I was really interested in unique style when I was a teenager. In my 20s, I bought into the millennial gray/beige esthetic really hard and completely lost my style. Now in my 30s, I'm really trying to rediscover personal style and how I want to portray myself to the world. You're so right that you feel better about yourself when the things you wear and surround yourself with are a representation of who you are as a person.
i semi- recently (like february) decided to dye all of my hair bright pink and i love it, it’s definitely made me feel more like myself bc i never had confidence before then to do something so prominent and noticeable with my appearance but i’m soo glad i did it
the button colour/look is an underrated part of a piece of clothing, it can completely change the look of something and it’s really not very hard to change, I think everybody should know how so they can never be stopped by the colour/look of the buttons on something ever again
I was growing out my bangs for like 2 years just to see what it would look like but finally decided to chop it up and cut bangs again and I feel so much more like my authentic self again!
Your videos always give me so much peace and enjoyment. I completely agree with the customizing things to yourself. I do it to almost everything I wear. Though my to do pile is high, thank you for reminding/encouraging me to push my projects past the 90% complete mark
I didn’t know about the stardew valley show until binge watching your videos a few days ago, and by that time it was a week after the show 😭 im glad you had an amazing time though!!!!!!!!!!
Living my best, authentic life with my freshly shaved head! Finally cut off my waist length (very) thick, curly hair (I donated it, don't worry!) and I feel so much more like myself ❤️
The buttons had me worried all the way up til the end ngl. I never should have doubted your vision! It's still classy as heck but SO MUCH MORE YOU! 🥰 Now it looks custom made to your tastes (and size, nice dartwork!)
Watched this again by accident as it came up in my feed after a cache-clear out AND I enjoyed it a second time. New thoughts: Clown game could make a family photo gallery frame with a portrait of you, your boo, and Kashi in each of the three holes. Assigning points values to each portrait would be the tricky part. Personalisation updates: my weave darns in my jumper worked and now I love the jumper even more than before, especially as the temperature here in southern Australia is bitter at the moment; I was doing a regular declutter and feeling I should donate a lovely green heavy weight linen cushion cover as it looks bad with the carpet colour in my rental, but sad as I love the green, and then I had the idea to turn it into a cross-body bag to replace the one that has finally given up the ghost after 20+ years. My friend visited with her sewing machine and made it into a fabulous bag, using the invisible zipper closure to make a pocket and lining it in neutral linen from some Ikea curtains I am also no longer using. While she made that I wove plaid darns into her favourite woolen vest and scarf, which had both been attacked by moths. We are two very happy campers today.
Recently I got new frames for my glasses and I got my haircut into a different style. I was getting tired of my look. I love the change. I feel more confident. Thanks Kathleen, love your videos.
prices are interesting to me as well, so thanks for mentioning them! and now that you mention it, maybe i should paint my nails again, it's been ages and it's always so cute! but i'm like you and hate those tedious tiny tasks lol so we'll see if it happens
For some reason the thifting bug bit me hard on this video. Then I realized, Ooh, I'm going to Dayton next week! I can swing by that town Amelia on the way there! Yessss!!
I painted my nails after quite some time, and I am loving it! I also am so glad I came across your channel. Just subbed! Looking forward to your next masterpiece. All the best from NYC! :)
who wants to twin with me in a lil haunted dress & purple beret?
meeee 🙋♀️
Helllll yeah! 🤩
We all do! Purple lil hats are a must have! 🌼🌺🌼🐸
Sure why not lol 😂
I would add pins to my beret, though.😊
"NOOO I'M TO CAKED UP!" That's so relatable Kathleen is so goofy love her 😂
Just another day of being hot and sexy 😔😔😔
I know the feeling. I’m the whole bakery 😣
Your cinematography is also hilarious, thanks for all the extra effort in setting up the shots, I feel like I'm really running around with you. So fun!
hehe I’m so glad you enjoy watching! Thank you 💕🥹
@KathleenIllustrated Psyched for that fan who got jumpscared, too! Our onscreen representative hehe

I love this idea 👀👀👀
Middle of nowhere thrift stores are often the best ones. The pieces are more unique.
I’m not sure I’d call Amelia the middle of nowhere.
Just doin my job, pardner! 👋🏼 🤠

That is 100% a dog collar name plate ❤
Little tip: don't back stitch on the end of your darts so they lay smoother. I usually just leave the thread a longer so I can tie a square knot.
In the last year I’ve realized I don’t enjoy wearing dark colors (esp black and gray). I feel heavy and it feels like the colors don’t help w keeping my natural sadness at bay. @@Jennilynne I have 3 cats and two dogs and dark colours end up fur covered...but I like dark clothes, so I am just always covered in fur...
I do the same but with pastels/neutrals! Used to just wear black basically
The random screaming and for you to scream along is such a vibe 😂❤
“Art aunt” is the perfect way to describe your vibe! I find myself watching these videos before bedtime because even though it’s wacky and chaotic, I feel so comfy and soothing. Exactly like being snug and strapped into the backseat of a car, heading towards an adventure with your fun aunt who helped you cut school for a family emergency except the emergency is that it’s amusement park weather.
My favorite thing to do to thrift finds that aren't quite right: shorten/crop it, change cheap buttons for interesting vintage buttons, cut dresses into tops and skirts.
i personally like knowing the prices of thrifted items, the cooler and cheaper, the more it's like treasure to me
I love to know too because it gives you an idea of how pricing is in different parts of the world and if a store has good pricing and it’s on one of my travel routes I will detour to check it out.
Just fyi….many sewing machines…not fancy ones…just basic ones…will sew the buttons on ….put the feed dogs down so the fabric doesn’t move…and put on zig zag with width adjusted to hole distance size…..take the presser foot off and put arm down on button to hold button. hehe!!! I’m so glad fate brought us together! Hope your loving your finds ✌🏼💕
loved the cozy chatty just-hangin-out vibes of the thrift flip & haul... hearing kathleen thoughts is always a blessing on my day🌟
As a fellow midwestern I'll now be using the term "fluff-ageden" 🤣
There is a vintage shop that is also a bar and a Wedding chapel all rolled into one that I might get married in! It’s the venue of my dream
this thrift store had so many cool treasures, I saw 5 things in like 10 seconds that I wanted! I'm so jealous😄
REALLY want that little coin purse...
Just got my button basket out last night to zhuzh up a thrifted denim shirt, it's kismet! My thing recently has been adding colossal patch pockets to everything, often in bold West African prints. If I can look like a four year old art niece in a smock all the time, I'm doing it right.
Been sewing little bows on clothes. Bought a black rose/feather hair clip and been wearing them in my hair when I have a bun.
0:39 my biggest regrets have always been skipping out on the coats during summer. reminder: the cold will return, but that awesome looking jacket/coat will not. passed up an amazing leather bomber jacket like 3 years ago and i'm still thinking about it.
A big thing for me feeling "like me" is the type of fabric I wear. I love breathable fabrics like cotton/linen etc!
Yay I’m glad you’re leaving into what you love!!!
You always pick the best music, incredible vibes! You're so cute!
2:46 Anyone else immediately think of the children’s book, “Caps for Sale” by Esphyr Slobodkina when she wore a cap on top of a cap?
Yes indeed!
I found a black vest (on the street during an ice storm... someone had tried to use it to get traction for their tires BUT it was fine and yes I am a raccoon) and it is a little loose, so the dart tip is super helpful!
Been going through a lot so I haven’t been here in a bit, still got them notifications on though! Love you Kathleen 💛

I've got a bracelet completely made out of vintage buttons, it's my favorite... Don't know why but I just loveee buttons too..... ❤
That very cute interaction at 2:52 when someone recognized @KathleenIllustrated in the wild was so wholesome! It was everything 💕✨

1:15 that smile is so menacing it actually scared me a little lmao
The swap out of the buttons was a great idea.
ACK I felt your pain! I found a cute Marimekko polka dot shift for 1300 yen ($8 !) but, alas... (Riced up, not caked up here...)

“Don’t panic, don’t panic. Get off of me”. I do the same thing with stuff that is stuck on me.
Your channel is such a comfort channel-thank you for just being you and posting really fun vids 💗
I love the cinematic feel of your videos. It’s unexpected but makes them so much more interesting. You’re a very creative person. ❤
i semi- recently (like february) decided to dye all of my hair bright pink and i love it, it’s definitely made me feel more like myself bc i never had confidence before then to do something so prominent and noticeable with my appearance but i’m soo glad i did it
YES! You bought the defunct carnival game clown! I have pretty intense coulrophobia, but I would endure it for that clown carnival game.
the button colour/look is an underrated part of a piece of clothing, it can completely change the look of something and it’s really not very hard to change, I think everybody should know how so they can never be stopped by the colour/look of the buttons on something ever again
I was growing out my bangs for like 2 years just to see what it would look like but finally decided to chop it up and cut bangs again and I feel so much more like my authentic self again!
i can’t even pick a favorite thing that u got in this video, it’s all so good! also i love how you thrift flipped the vest to make it more you!
I love your black vest and black shorts outfit. It’s cool 😎. I also love how you up cycled the vest. It’s something I would wear. So cool 😎!!
Ohh love the Lolly!!
I was excited about everything. I was glad to see Gus with you thrifting.❤❤❤❤
Oh my gosh COOL thank you for the updates! Your crafting friend time sounds so wonderful (& thanks for watching twice! 😉)
"why do I want these haunted little dresses" hilarious and relatable 100%
I’m having a ptsd episode and Kathleen’s voice is just perfect to help soothe me and get my mind on the best headspace 💛
Girl, you let me know when youre coming to Louisville KY! We will shop til we drop!
That scarf could have looked really cute tied (triangle) bandana style with a small knot behind the neck to "fill" the neckline of that vest.
You can use the clown sign as a planter frame!
For some reason the thifting bug bit me hard on this video. Then I realized, Ooh, I'm going to Dayton next week! I can swing by that town Amelia on the way there! Yessss!!
Literally love your vibes so much, the best energy all around
I painted my nails after quite some time, and I am loving it! I also am so glad I came across your channel. Just subbed! Looking forward to your next masterpiece. All the best from NYC! :)
