To be fair though, Canadian's in general don't pay attention to events outside of our continent. It's another cliche, one of many repeated ad nauseam on this podcast, but our elections are not decided on foreign policy. And I'd say you can easily expand that to include military spending, as this gentlemen touches on. Gentleman referring to Dr. Perry, not Herle. Obviously.

When it comes to Canada's place in the world, the best example I have heard is that Canada will never build a space shuttle, but we can build the Canadarm to go into it.
David you asked some great questions and your guest was pretty good at painting around the edges but didn't really get into the actual challenges and speak to the real chaos that is National Defence.. The CAF has had a vacuum at the leadership level which has lost sight of why a military exists. The priority has been removing white heterogeneity across the ranks, emphasizing the individual ahead of a team as well as the operational mission. seeking to accommodate at every turn making LGBTQS, hair colour and length as well as making uniforms more about individual fashion statements. The solution isn't going to be found in a mirage of gender or recruiting, transgender. The focus is on what makes a military professional and those who understand and want to be a professional are leaving faster than they are being replaced.
Annecdotal, but I have heard from northern pilots who claim to have seen surfaced Chinese subs flying the Chinese flag. No doubt US subs are in Canadian Arctic waters tracking Chinese and Russian subs.
