Also, no issues with my 5K LG monitor (USB-C) and an external Samsung monitor (HDMI).

Hi, I have a Mac Mini M1, and it is connected to two Dell monitors. Each time I switch the cursor between the two monitors to use one of them, I have to click to get access to that monitor. Is there an option when the cursor is on that particular monitor that it can automatically recognise and select without clicking twice to select?
With your MAC Mini under the desk, How do you turn the computer on to begin your session? Do you have to reach in the back everyday to start the computer?
I had an LG 27" for years, it was terrible. The colors were absymal, I could never get them calibrated even remotely close to my default MBP colors. And the build quality was pathetic: the stand always wobbled, and eventually broke. I would never buy an LG again. I recently purchased a Dell S2721DS. I'm super-pleased with it. The color is pretty good, the clarity feels like a semi-Retina display (and certainly good enough for both design work and Xcode), and the build quality feels great. The downsides: - no speakers - no USB outputs - the Mac can't control the screen brightness. You have to do that with the screen's built-in menu, and they always suck. But, for the price, it's the best image quality I've found for development.
I thought that you couldn't connect more than one monitor for the MBP, MBA and mini M1's. My main question is can I do this with the MBP 16GB M1? I have that one coming in very soon and I'm having a hard time figuring out how I can do it! Help!
Sorry can I use the Mac mini m1 which two monitors and use the iPad with side car with the cable?, because my connection is unstable and slow, or does the computer read it as a third monitor?
I was surprised to see the lag when re-arranging the windows - I have the same issue with my laptop running dual 4k monitors but wasn't expecting the M1 Mac Mini to struggle too
I’ve noticed some resolution automatic resizing issues when switching sources on both of these monitors using the M1. For example, I have my Switch connected to an HDMI input on the LG, and the Mac is using USB-C. When switching back from the Switch to the Mac inputs sometimes, the resolution will be zoomed in way too much, and I have to restart the computer to reset the correct resolution dimensions. It happens on the Philips as well. Pretty sure this is an M1 issue, cuz I don’t notice this weirdness at all when I have my 2019 Intel MBP connected to these monitors using USB-C.
Hi there, thanks for this very useful video! I have got a question, could these 2 monitors be controlled by separate keyboards and mouses? So that it is become like 2 people using 2 desktop computers.
Hmm, I know you can hook up 2 different keyboards and mice, but I don't think there's a way to control which monitor each pair separately interfaces with.
Question. I have 2 HDMI monitors. My primary should be plugged in HDMI into an HDMI to USB C cable and then my 2nd monitor can just be HDMI from monitor into HDMI port?
is it possible to use single HDMI out or USB-C out from Mac Mini and split to two separate monitors using a splitter? if yes, can these two monitors shows different windows or just a copy?

Now I have a USB -C to Displayport on another monitor that i was sure would work with the second USB C port on the mac mini and it IS NOT WORKING? I want to get another monitor for my Mac mini but do you think it will affect the macs performance and make it slower ? ( I don’t play games , I’m only using it for school and watching RUclips videos )
Good Q. It might slow the computer down a tiny bit, especially if you’re doing graphically intense stuff on your Mac like video editing, gaming etc. But if you’re using an M1, it’s so fast where it probably wouldn’t make much of a noticeable difference for most things.

Should I swap my MacBook Pro 💻 m1 for a m1 mini, will it display a 2k and a 4k monitor (non usbc) properly? Got a MacBook Pro m1 I’m able to get two monitors to display. However they are not displaying properly. They are both dell one is 4k and the other one is 2k. They are connected with a dell d600 docking station. One by hdmi one by dp to hdmi. The problem is the 4k one is I’m unable to scale the text. Also the 2k doesn’t give me the option of 2560 x 1440. I was able to install some program that gave me the option to change the display of the 4k to 2560 x 1440 but the text doesn’t look sharp. I would consider getting the mini but I’m I able to work with the dual display 2k and 4k screens (they don’t support usbc) ?
Hmm I wonder if your issues are being caused by the docking station not being compatible with M1? If you're having problems with the MBP M1, I'm not confident getting the mini will solve your issues, since I'm pretty sure the monitor issues are more with M1 overall. The mini does support 2 displays tho.
Any monitor that is set to a resolution other than its native resolution will not look sharp. I.e. 2560 on a 4k monitor. Doesn't make sense to try setting a 2k display to 2560 when its native is 1920x1080
Ben Aqua LG 27UK850-W or Philips Brilliance 27 which one should I get? I watch movies, youtube and study. Screen quality and color vibrancy are important to me and is there bleeding on the screen? thanks
This is a two monitor setup + sidecar, not true three monitor setup, which sucks, because the M1 could drive three just fine on the mini, but Apple went Apple and wants you to buy imacs or pros. Fortunately there are third party hubs that enable more monitors than two. Thank s for the vid though.
Hi Ben, I recently purchased a BenQ EW2780U monitor and connected it to my m1 MacBook pro. The monitor cannot display 4k at 60hz even though it is capable of doing that; now, I can either do fake 4k(4k in low-resolution mode) at 60hz or 4k at 30hz. This really frustrates me because I need the smoothness from 60hz and the crispy text from 4k. I wanna ask if you have experienced a similar issue with your LG 27UK850 monitor? Thank you for replying!
Hey Max! That's strange about the frame rates not reaching 60hz on the BenQ. Are you using usb-c or hdmi? I've seen that issue happen when connecting the Mac mini M1 to the LG monitor via hdmi. Using usb-c tho, it displays 4K 60hz fine, minus the occasional resolution resizing software and washed-out colors glitches when switching from hdmi back to usb-c.
@@b3naqua Thank you for answering, I end up refunding the Benq and got a new LG as you suggested. I'm happy with it since it works 4k 60hz, thank you so much

I have a Mac Mini M1, and it is connected to two Dell monitors.
Yup, I reach back. Not a huge deal tbh
@@b3naqua Oh, i was hoping you had some cool new way turn it on like … “Clap on. Clap off. the clapper”.
- Cheers 👍🏾
Lol I wish! Manually pressing the power button is the only way to turn it on 😭 I’d imagine most ppl prob leave it running 24/7 tho
The downsides:
- no speakers
- no USB outputs
- the Mac can't control the screen brightness.
Help!
Hmm I'm not entirely sure, but you can do one monitor on usb-c and the other using a usb-c to hdmi cable maybe?
Sorry can I use the Mac mini m1 which two monitors and use the iPad with side car with the cable?, because my connection is unstable and slow, or does the computer read it as a third monitor?
I was surprised to see the lag when re-arranging the windows - I have the same issue with my laptop running dual 4k monitors but wasn't expecting the M1 Mac Mini to struggle too
yah idk what that was about
Did you experience any issues regarding dual monitors not functioning well with M1 Mac Mini?
@@b3naqua Thanks a lot! It is very much appreciated!
Is there any way to disable the 2nd monitor without unplugging the HDMI cable?
I don’t think so
@@b3naqua dang…ok thanks.
Question. I have 2 HDMI monitors. My primary should be plugged in HDMI into an HDMI to USB C cable and then my 2nd monitor can just be HDMI from monitor into HDMI port?
Yes, you can try that setup. I have heard in the comments from a few people having issues with usb-c to hdmi adapters/cables, but it’s worth a shot!
Woow, is cost of setup went any close to iMac pro or even Mac Pro?
This setup is way cheaper!
What refresh rates did you get? Were you able to run them both at 60hz?
Yup!
is it possible to use single HDMI out or USB-C out from Mac Mini and split to two separate monitors using a splitter? if yes, can these two monitors shows different windows or just a copy?
Hi. Ben you don't like Ultra Wide monitors? I'm trying to find my way into a good setup for music production. I don't game but, i am seeing impaired. No need for speed!
I’ve actually never owned an ultra wide monitor but I do want to try one out soon!
@@b3naqua okay. thank you for responding!
Hello! I have a two 27' thunderbolt displays and I'm trying to figure out how to connect both
Maybe connect one of the via thunderbolt and the other via usb-c to hdmi?
@@b3naqua USB-C to HDMI doesn't work, fyi. You have to find HDMI to usb-c. Thats the only way. It's called a Siig HDMI to USB-C Converter/Adapter cable. $45 on their website. Got one for $36 at Walmart. Amazon has them too. I've got mine working. Hope this helps.
Me too! Did you figure it out ?
Am thinking about buying it for it works & displays good?
Yah it works ok! There is a bit of shadowing on the edges, but the price is amazing for the 4K quality + usb-c imo.
@@b3naqua I read reviews that people having problems getting the 4K?
@@b3naqua shadowing on the edges what’s that’s gaming?
@@java2894 there was a small amount of darkness around the edges on the monitor, mostly noticeable when watching a bright video
@@b3naqua oh ok
Hi. What color profile do you use with this monitor?
(System Preferences > Displays > Color)
Hi just watched your video and my question is....I have two 28" Samsung 4k monitors do you know if I can hook them up to the iMac mini via HDMI for one and the other via display port. I have the 2020 imac 27" right now for a few days and really miss two screens I did hook up one of monotors and it worked but the size difference it looks yuk. Cheers John
Hi, I have an M1 Mac Mini 16gb, 1tb version, and cannot get my 3rd monitor to work? I am using 1-USB C to USB-C port to power my 34" samsung QLED screen (no problem), my older monitor which uses DVI was only able to work by using the HDMI -DVI on the mac mini which works (every USB C to DVI adapter I tried would not work). Now I have a USB -C to Displayport on another monitor that i was sure would work with the second USB C port on the mac mini and it IS NOT WORKING? Any idea why this is? simply put, I can't get any monitor to work using the usb-c port unless it's an extremely new monitor it seems and using USB C to USB C.
Please help. I've tried everything to get a 3rd monitor to work via the usb-c port. Is there a difference between the 2 usb-c ports in the back?
Which desk is that and how much ?
It's an IKEA THYGE desk that I bought for like $30 on FB Marketplace. Pretty awesome and minimal desk!
Hi Ben, thanks for this video. I just bough a Mac Mini M1. I bought it to replace my iMac which the screen died on. I have LG UltraFine 24" displays (LG 24MD4KL-B) it only has USB-C and Thunderbolt 3. I have not been able to see any way to get this working with my new Mac Mini. Any suggestions? So sad!
can i technically use 2 USB-C for monitor + 1 HDMI monitor?
I think you can only do one usb-c and one hdmi simultaneously
@@b3naqua indeed, it can only do 1 external display via USB-C.
@@dwaynefoong ok yeah, that's what I thought
Can I plug 2xLG4KUltraFine by the Type C/Thunderbolt this monitors has just type c. Or thats works just one with type c and one with HDMI?
I think the M1 mini allows one monitor via usb-c and one via hdmi.
@@b3naqua how I can check it? At apple support you think?
@@zan0zzza yeah contacting Apple support would probably be best/most accurate!
@@b3naqua oh ok thanks. I also had one last Q. I have my m1 Mac mini connected with 1 monitor with hdmi to hdmi , however I want a 2nd monitor and I was wondering if I used a USB C to VGA multi port and then connect a vga cable to that multiport and to the 2nd monitor , would that work ?
Macbook pro 13 2017 and LG 4K HDR UL850-W monitor....
Nice setup!
Hi. I have an LG 27UL850-W and M1 Mac Mini,
I cannot control the volume on a Mac. I installed LG OnScreen Control but it didn't fix.
Do you know the solution?
I think it’s an M1 issue. I can’t control volume from my Mac either on M1.
So you can plug N monitors to the mac mini m1 and I can't plug more than one without docking station to the mbp m1. That's not fair 🤣
will this work with mac mini 2018?
I think so? Not sure tbh
MacMini supports 2 monitors. Apple said one u say??
In their documentation they say one monitor is supported, but you can definitely hook up at least 2!
I have two monitors on my Mac mini and a few users, we all have our own logins but the login screen is showing on the right hand monitor and I’d like the login screen to be on the left hand monitor which is in front of me. Do you know how to change it?
Good Q, I'm actually not sure about that one
Both my monitors are HDMI, would an HDMI to USB c adapter work?
It probably would, but I've been hearing those kinds of adapter situations can be kind of unstable on M1 machines. Worth a shot tho!
Did you get both monitors to work?
@@giobugtong_ yup HDMI to USB cable
Would this work on an hdmi tv?
Yup!
Thanks for your video - it very helpful, however, I have a question:
I have two monitors (LG-27UP 650-w and the LG-27UP 550) that I would like to connect to the M1 Mac Mini. Both monitors only have HDMI ports. Can I connect them and what additional adapters do I need if any?
Hey Ann, did you run into any issues with using the LG monitors with the mac mini? I'm getting an issue with it waking up from sleep and the monitors switching over
Anyone has any luck rotating a monitor vertically? Displaylink is not allowing me the ability to rotate my monitor. I am using a 13" MBP M1 Chip.
@@b3naqua thanks for the reply. I could give it a shot with the mini. But I really wanted the 💻 to work since the portability is what I need.
Any monitor that is set to a resolution other than its native resolution will not look sharp. I.e. 2560 on a 4k monitor. Doesn't make sense to try setting a 2k display to 2560 when its native is 1920x1080
What picture profile do you have your LG monitor in?
The Custom default setting looks best to me
Is it gud for trading
Yup
Ben Aqua
LG 27UK850-W or Philips Brilliance 27 which one should I get? I watch movies, youtube and study. Screen quality and color vibrancy are important to me and is there bleeding on the screen? thanks
Of those two, I'd go with the LG for the better design and ease of use. There's a newer model than the UK that I would recommend: amzn.to/2VAWnar
Where did you get your desk?
It's an IKEA Thyge desk
great sharing
Thank you 🍎
Hi Ben, I recently purchased a BenQ EW2780U monitor and connected it to my m1 MacBook pro.
I'm happy with it since it works 4k 60hz, thank you so much
@@maxlu590 glad it worked out for you!
Are you on Full 4K resolution? When I select 4K, the font is really small!
Yes, 4K. Try going into your display settings and scaling the resolution up to make everything bigger.
@@b3naqua ok but does that still use 4K ? It just scales the UI right?
Hello I dont know if you are going to reply to this comment, but I am fairly new with putting up my own monitors and I am planning on getting the Mac mini m1 myself, but I am puzzled to what HDMI cord fits best for plugging it in a monitor, my monitor is the LG 27ul550 4k, and it gave me 2 HDMI plug ins and I dont know which one to use, or do I have to purchase another plug in for the Mac mini to my monitor. I was also trying to match the HDMI cable to the Mac mini apple web but they dont look the same, OMG help!!!
