Journey was so big at this point they were the first band to have their own video game. Bands had Pinball machines before this but Journey got a standup arcade video game in 83 to promote this album (Frontiers)... there was even an audio tape in the machine that would play Seperate Ways if you beat all 7 rounds.

I mean no disrespect to people who have come after Steve Perry, they have worked their arses off fronting Journey. For me Journey with Steve fronting it, is the real deal. Your absolutely right, it would stack up extremely well against today’s music, this song has got Rock and Roll all over it. 🎼❤️🇦🇺❤️🇬🇧🕺🏻💃🎸☘️

Neal Shon was a child guitar prodigy. He started at 8 or 9 yrs young, by 12 playing music fairs, at 15 played with Jeff Beck at a bar. They had to sneak him in and was told drink NOTHING, not even water and was rushed out the back door. This is what Neal lives for, ROCK. Yougest member of Santana and brought into Journey by Herbie Herbert soon to be band manager. I wish this was a live version, watching him on guitar would have been epic.

Troubled Child is another great track off of Frontiers. There are live recordings of Edge of the Blade on you tube from the 83 Frontiers tour and they are FABULOUS!

The artist who made the cover made it based on "the relativety of time and motion". This is from the Wikipedia article on the album.

They only ever did a couple videos.
The guys said management didn’t want to spend $ on them. Most videos are from a concert.
If it’s sharp, if it cuts, enjoy yourself” love it.
They thought the music/songs spoke for themselves. They grew up with radio and thought videos changes the message, so listeners would imagine what they think the song means.

    • @RustyHinge
      @RustyHinge 2 года назад +5

Actually, it was management that wanted them to do MTV-friendly music videos, thus we got "Separate Ways", "After The Fall", "Chain Reaction" and "Faithfully". "Send Her My Love" was back to the live or live setting-type videos like pre-Frontiers and Raised on Radio. Steve, Jon and Neal all hated doing production videos. They wanted the music to speak for itself.

What another wonderful Journey deep cut. For the video, Just live. I was fortunate to see them sing this live July 17, 1983 in New Orleans. What a great concert. Bryan Adams, Zebra and Foghat opened up for them. Day of Rock And Roll. Please do more Journey deep cuts, "Keep On Running", "Where Were You" and "Walks Like A Lady". Also, you should check out some Zebra. Start with "Tell Me What You Want". Thanks and God Bless.

Joann! Literally, not a bad song on all Journey albums (with Steve Perry)...in order, "Infinity", "Evolution","Departure","Escape","Frontiers" and then "Raised on Radio"...."Captured" was a live album, also great. I would suggest you start from the beginning...it is all excellent. A very special band.

Always happy to see a new journey reaction, Hap! Made my day 🙂. So many people now only know Journey as the king of power ballads. They were that but so much more. More suggestions-Escape, Walks Like a Lady, the Party is Over. From Steve-Missing You, Captured by the Moment, I Stand Alone.

Haha, imagination what the video might look like? I was so blown away by listening to this powerful beat and watching you. I have been doing the same thing right from the start - bopping my head and playing air guitar. To be honest, I don't need or want a video either. This powerful song with this riff, the drums, the insane guitar playing and the VOICE is enough - oh I love it. And with the reference to Johnny and Amber, there you have your video😂. Fantastic and enthusiastic reaction HAP and great choice Debra S.🤩🙋🏻‍♀

I remember I saw him either late 80 or early 81 not sure it's been a long time. His concert was amazing. The perfection of the group and his voice... every song was on point. Really appreciate the music groups I had the pleasure to see live!!

I’ve been a huge Journey fan since the late 70’s. HUGE! But I have to say, if you dig into the recent news about all the power struggles, drama, and lawsuits going on within the band, “Edge Of The Blade” has become their official unofficial theme song. So sad to to see, because they were, and still are, a truly special band.
“You're caught up in the power.
    A blue magical maze.
    Now the circle is broken
    In a spellbinding rage.
    Better see if you're holdin'
The wrong edge of the blade.”
    🙁

...Good choice Hap3!. This song gets little love, but, it is great tune, a little harder edged than the rest of the album.I usually prefer the "B sides", since so much of this album is so over played...I was a senior in High school when this came out, it is classic, and the second to last album with Steve Perry, maybe their pinnacle. But you really should check out some "Raised on Radio", it is a great album, and the last one with Steve Perry
