Traxxas outfitted both cars with heavy duty parts, gave one the new BL-2S system and released them so close to each other, it left some with the question, which to get. Which of course we’ll help you answer in this video!

No brainer, the extra 100 for the VXL is well worth it over the BL-2.
Or you could get the bl2s and upgrade it to brushless with a $70 Hobbywing combo, then have a spare bl2s
It's RC!!! Almost always buy the cheaper version!! You can upgrade as you break stuff! If it doesn't break chances are you going to upgrade it anyway. One of the funnest things about RC is upgrading and making it your own!!!
@@finleymakee4850If you substitute by just throwing the BLS in the garbage that is a really good idea.
Yep. I don't even own any 2s batteries anymore, even my mini and micros are pushing 3s.
ikr, it's not worth it
VXL. It's worth the 100 easily.
Track, Start, Stop, Read! This is how its done! 😎👍
Most in-depth, and axcurate, review I've seen of this car which really helps show differences others haven't pointed out. Definitely would go 3s, personally, but children should be good with 2s version.
Happy to hear it was helpful! That’s my goal. Thanks for watching!
Unpopular opinion.
I really like the BL-2S system because you can blast it and it stays cool. Way cooler than even the VXL system running 2S. Very nice for the Texas heat. No fans needed. No cool down waiting period or frying your motor.
I support your opinion. I like that the fan from the VXL drops right on too.
I avoid that issue entirely by not running Traxxas electronics. The vxl system is one of the worst brushless systems I've ever had the displeasure of running. Overheats even in the snow
@@demothsthe bl2s is way better surprisingly. The open fan was a stupid decision and makes it near useless for this purpose. Would be great in a 2wd where the motor can't pack with trash
Nah vxl
Not into Rally RC, but I can appreciate great content which you always find on this Channel.
Real
Love my VXL 3s Ford Fiesta Rally Car😊It's Amazing to drive on and off Road.😊 Thanks for videos 😊
We have the vxl. Orange. Vibrant. Amazing experience
Just got the BL2S in blue. I love it so far
grabbed my VXL on release day. havent ran it yet, maybe this weekend. looks really cool, i am excited. i was going to transform my Rustler 4X4 to a lowered street car this spring. now i dont have to
They look great! Great review!!
I got the Vxl3s it's amazing 😍 Love this car it's Soo fun to drive ❤
I would be good with the VXL upgrades like the center aluminum driveshaft with the BL2s system. I have been wanting the rally for a long time but i always end up getting something like a 1/6 scale rc instead. I just want something i can run full throttle all the time and not worry about going 50+.
I'm getting a VXL for sure!! I've been waiting for this.
Good informative video as always, thank you.
COmmenting here to say that in June 2024, Traxxas is selling the 2L-S as a combo with the battery and charger for 330$ all-in. I still agree that the VXL is faster/better/etc.... but if you're newer to the hobby, I have a feeling sales like this will happen again and it is a GREAT way to enter the hobby when you don't have anything already. I ordered a FIesta ST myself as I don't really have anything like it and I'm looking forward to tearing up my local dirt hiking trails with it when it comes in.
I like the look of the new Rally's, but I still have my old 1/10 Rally, custom built from a Slash Ultimate slider back in 2015. That thing is a beast and still runs great, likely because I keep it on the street. I wonder if the narrower track width would make the newer style more fun, though.
Awesome. I was wondering about the options between them.
We’ve had four of the original Rally VXL’s in the family for 10 years or so. Still kickin. We’ve had some great driveway racing action. May be time to replace them!
Love this vid. Regards from Germany 🤝
I like the comparison. I spent a ton of money and time making a brushed Rustler 4x4 into a VXL spec and if I could do it again I would just get the VXL from the start. All those parts add up!
I did the same only with a Stampede
I did the same thing man. Couple of years ago before all this fancy 2S stuff came out, but man I completely overlooked how the car is priced for the brushless version, then slightly reduced with BIG features removed to hit that lower price point for the brushed system.
I spent waay way too much money on the Rustler. Had a great time with it and learned about RC so not a waste of time, but I spent way too much money for sure.
I did the same with a Brushed 2WD Slash. Upgraded it fully to a 2WD Slash VXL and later sold it as I had ended up buying a 4WD Slash Ultimate and have further upgraded that. I'm half tempted to go for the UDR, but my Ultimate Slash goes faster than the UDR and is almost half the cost.
id go with the 2s get an aluminum drive shaft and different brushless eventually... local track races stock traxxas rally
Cool lil machines! Going to get a couple for me n the buds to mess around with
I am waiting for the clipless body Summit, that would be the best. Awesome video 👌
If you stretch the budget for the vxl, then it's the better option, IMO. I know the BL-2S is better for kids and noobs but you can also put the VXL esc in training mode and run it at 50%. It's the best of both worlds.
thank you. You helped make my choice. the VXL with a blue body 🤣
Enjoy!
. Curiosity starts @ 3s & up. VXL is the choice.
Bought the bl-2s before I knew there was a vxl on the way. I’ve already got a Tekno big bone center drive shaft and Robinson racing gen3 clutch to put in with a max10g2 140a combo but it sounds like I’ll snag the turnbuckles and drive shafts off the vxl when Jenny’s gets them
So dope
I’m gonna have to get the vxl for bashing and dirt.!!!
The BL2S is Perfect for beginners and Kids. Robustness is key and kids are Hard on stuff, so my thought is that the BL2S can handle what beginners and kids will throw at it.
As for the VXL, its an upgrade to the BL2S so I think itll be great at tracks and keep up with the Slash VXL Ultimate.
I got the BL-2S car. My friend bought it for me. I like it. It is very stable and goes about 25 MPH. Also, I was not able to flip it. I saw on the faster car you could flip it. I want my wife and my kids to drive it. I am going to upgrade the drive train to metal parts that Traxxas does sell. I got 3 parts and it only cost $30.00.
Cool rides
I wish traxxas would make a larger version of this like the max slash
Are they still selling the UDR cos why compete with themselves
I was a mechanic for paradise hobbies in south Florida and I converted a slash 4x4 into a low cg rally car. Sadly the shop was sold, new owner shut it down.
Cool! Love Traxxas VXL 3s!
Very nice cars but I think the price is a pit high! Thanks for the review!
Just waiting for a clipless body count kit to come out to put on my rally
I was heading to the hobby store to buy the 2S the day I got the email about the VXL release. My green Rally arrived today! I have numerous upgrade parts waiting to be installed when I get home.
BYW I see you got a new Gladiator !!! 👍
Awesome! Enjoy! Yup, back in a Gladiator, Willys this time.
OFF-ROAD THRASH BASH BLS 2, lets go
I’m glad I bout one period
I noticed the tire treads sweep forward in the front and backwards in the back. Any reason why ?
I got the VXL, awesome video! What action camera do you use to get those up close shots?
Hope they make an ultimate version.
2:47 Both of these models have the front tires on in the wrong direction. That tread pattern is how actual gravel rally tires look. When you look at the pattern from the front of the car, the sweep should be going up like bull horns (like the ones in the rear at this timestamp). The front ones are backwards. Not sure if someone at Traxxas needs to get educated or if these were put on backwards at some point by OP, but now you know 💫
the mountain dew ford fiesta st vs the doritos cool ranch ford fiesta st
Do you think the chassis brace on rustler can fit on the rally?
Looked like the 2s didn't have it on the bumpy dirt compared to the 3s crushing it 👍
Go wild with the VXL system? LOL! You said it yourself, you can always start with a 2s battery. Then work up.
However if you think that a 3s battery in this car is wild, you would LOVE my Rally ST... I changed out the motor and ESC along with A LOT of work and tuning to run it effectively on 4s. Now That is a handful! LOL!
As an experienced rc driver, the 3S all day.
Another great video! Im looking at the VXL since Im a VXL Fanboy😁 Thank you!
Would have liked to see the vxl on 2s compared to the bl2s on 2s
Great review as always👍 Between the two, that VXL is going to be a hard one to turn down. Even for a noob, dial the throttle down in the app and when ready, plow on the power😆 Traxxas picked a good time to revamp these beauties. Rally seems to be taking an uptick.
Awesome.. Wish they either offered different bodies or an actual Fiesta rally livery... The Snap On version with the Nitro RX body is cool too but not available.
I agree
looks fun but lack of ground clearance would be an issue
It’s meant for packed dirt tracks or packed dirt not made for rock climbing lol found clearance is not an issue they have other cars for different terrain 😎
Id like to see a e-brake option gor these
I really hoped for a true 2 cell Lipo comparison. But he went straight to 3 cell power 😂.
Kinda disappointed ☹️
Other people have hit 60mph with speed pinion. I think its a great car.
Got the VXL model 3 weeks ago and not regretting the additional $100 cost. Agree they need to add mud guards etc to stop all the debris from collecting. The one upgrade I would recommend out of the box would be adding cooling fans.
For real. I can't run my 3s battery without the motor shutting itself off for being scorching hot. I don't see why Traxxas didn't include cooling fans on a $400+ car.
@@cmgordon6407 I can't figure that one out either. Once I got the cooling fans installed I don't have the heat issues. Once it gets hotter out I'm going to switch to 2s batteries.
Thinking about getting one of these as a starting platform for a 100+MPH build
That would be sick. It was stable during my speed run. But double the speed… hmmm
It has a hard enough time staying down at 60MPH.... 100 would be quite something! lol
Get the xo-1
Vxl is the way to go
Vxl for sure is the better money spent.
Honestly was excited when they announced the bl2 model but seeing how it's a neutered brushless that's not much more powerful than what they used to put in brushed definitely would skip the bl-2 model and go with vxl. Wish the bl2 was a bit more powerful
Sure it’s not exactly for us seasoned RC drivers, but for those getting into RC, whose numbers are much bigger, the BL-2S fits the needs in so many ways.
I’m getting the bl-2 system for my dads rally and I bought the vxl he’ll be good with that as he has way less experienced then me who has over 17 vehicles lol
I owned a Ford Fiesta ST for 5 years. I loved it! But the real Fiesta ST is 2 wheel drive.
It’s modeled after the wrc car which is awd
I’m here to say if you’re on the fence about it get that VXL if you can afford it!
For sure first thing I did was end up throwing in my vxl from my rustler lol 😆 best rally car I ever had until now ......hpi 😅
How come i cant find these for sale. Just the BL?
It's RC!!! You should almost always buy the cheaper version!! You can upgrade as things break or just for the fun of it!!
I wish I figured out sooner not to buy the more expensive version because I'm going to upgrade parts regardless. Every RC I own has upgraded electronics. All but one the stock electronics still work like they did when I took it out of the box. I just wanted them to have more power or better control.
Bad advice. Have you done the math? The amount you spent on upgrades versus buying the more expensive version with all the upgrades included will ALWAYS be in favor of buying the upgraded version from the start. Show me an example where I’m wrong. The reason manufacturers offer the cheaper versions is it draws in initial customers. They know anyone that continues in the hobby WILL PAY for the upgrades down the road. Anyone not willing to pay for the upgrades will quit the hobby, but hey at least you got an initial purchase out of them before it got put up on eBay. So the right advice? If you’re new to the hobby and hesitant about how much to spend, then get the cheaper version and upgrade as you need to if you find you love RC. If you want the most RC for the money? Just get the upgraded version from the start.
Its too bad they don't sell rollers or kits, both Traxxas electronics offerings leave a lot to be desired.
I've got 6 vxl's, so bl2s is more neighborhood friendly for me
Agree it is neighborhood friendly. I’m actually swapping the BL-2S from my Rustler 4x4 into the VXL Rally and the R4x4 will get the VXL. That way both my kids can hammer on the BL-2S Rally’s in the neighborhood without a worry from me.
raptor R or fiesta VXL which do you recommend
The body mounts plastic? How much for replacement body mounts, and why not make them metal instead?
They don’t need to be the are durable I’ve never broken the clipless body mounts on my cars that have them 👍🏻👍🏻
How do these not come with sway bars?
Because traxxas
2:48 bxl?😂😂
😀👍
What about the speed of Val on 2s/ is it the same as the bl-2s?
Yes on 2s most likely the same speed
Gee I love to have one of them but I never have the money for the damn thing they look like they be cool I live in the country I don't make a whole lot how
Just need to ditch the fixed camber links, been seeing those the first thing to break out the box
I haven’t broken any on my BL-2S RTR’s yet, but it looked like a worry item to me.
Seen a couple break at a local rally track of mine, but i mean you gotta have a weak point somewhere. Those are not the end of the world broken tho
So the nimha battery is faster then lipo? He said at beginning
A 7-cell NiMh is 8.4V and a a 2S LiPo is 7.4V. The NiMH being 1 volt more will give you a faster speeds. However the NiMh voltage will drop over the run time. That’s where a LiPo is better for maintaining its voltage over time.
Where is the green body coming from? I don't see it on the website.
It’s on the Traxxas website, Amain doesn’t have it listed yet.
This or CEN puma?
Battery and charger included or separately?
Separate purchase.
Does anybody remember the lcg slash? Or am I having a mandella moment
Traxxas: we upgrade our old cars😂😂😂
Well, would you prefer they just abandoned old cars so that you couldn't get parts for them anymore? Or make them better so you can still use most of the old parts, replace broken parts with better ones, and have them perform better overall?
How much are they
Isn't the older brushed system capable of 3s?
Yes
Im glad you covered how bad they collect garbage. I jammed the fan on the motor several times. There is no way they didnt forsee this issue when they designed it because the titan can had the same issues.
It’s worth getting a dust cover for these cars
@@julianwillems2295 good luck. The clipless body on the bl2 renders every one on the market useless.
Please give us a dust cover traxxas..

// Epidemic Sound
Why are the tires reversed on front, nobody seems to know not even Traxxas
The question is how was the servos still turning the car bruh
Most of my stuff is Traxxas because I don’t care about having the newest thing and I’m tired of not being able to find parts for my older stuff. I’ve got a Vaterra Twin Hammers and my brother has a Vaterra Glamis Fear and it’s hard finding the parts that have broken. And it’s too bad about those two specifically because they’re pretty sweet! To each his own though, right?! Buy the stuff you like and don’t give people crap about liking something else, at the end of the day it’s still a toy!! Just one you can fix and keep playing with it! And it’s no different than Chevy vs Ford…just have fun, it’s a hobby and meant to enjoy how you see fit! People that complain in the comments are acting like a little kid…
I feel you bro! I own several twinhammers and glamis fear. I love them so much that i was forced to buy additional vehicles to get ahold of spare parts as the situation in Germany is far worse than in the USA. I even own an example of both completely new in box and an unopened kit version of the twin hammers. I'm still worried about parts in the future and am trying to resort to 3dprinted parts and cnc machined parts. I made a custom rear aluminium plate to fit the traxxas 2wd gearbox but still need to figure out how to fit the upper part of the body structure to the gearbox for durability!
Getting Differential parts for the glamis fear is nearly impossible in europe!
@@AsurasWrath164 yea that sucks, I got my TH used and the guy made a homemade vertical front shock mount that’s too tall in the middle and it moves so the front part of the cage is broken because of the shocks hitting it. I actually wish it was stock because I think it looks better and I can’t imagine it would be much different functionally.
Traxxas is always 25% too much money for what you get
its ground clearance is way too low for the sandy conditions you ran it through - at scale it would be like running a WRC car through the Dakar - not a great fit
My magic wand for the perfect terrain was broken.
Only Traxxas can make a brushless car that only does 25 mph. Pathetic. The VXL looks fun though.
Only a fool would buy these today even if they are updated new style maxx chassis modded as i expect tbh.
I bet its nit though i bet its the same thing i purchased 10 years ago for cheaper with real VXL spec. £250 from Germany to uk brilliant price. Full on VXL.
Today youd be better to buy a used slash 4x4 ultimate with some upgrades done to it. You got the slash parts too.
Buy the bumpers wheels body for car and you can swap between sets.
Slash with 2.8in body rear cut away best rc i ever had hands down but was full mod dripping in money by the end mostly pointless too. If i did it ahain ide do it properly not ott.
GTR XX shocks a must have.
VG racing GTR XX springs fitted.
Thats the number one upgrade. Trx springs are weak. Vg racing springs are perfect. 50mph jumps no popped caps.
Rc prices are a joke now hobbists surly use their knowlege to save money not buy these old release down graded BS spec ones.
As if they havent maxe enough from that platform to lower prices not double them. 😢
It sounds under geared to me or the slipper is weak still even though they have the revo 3.3 slipper that fits on perfectly they couldnt just use that part for the slash. They needed a weak part youll replace not fit and forget. Like the revo 3.3 slipper is. Its needed for bigger motors too. Listen it cant keep up here 😅
Wow its even worse than i thought under the body. Those shocks are the worst 20yr old shocks out. 😮
If this thing costs $250 bs5 350 vxl mayb if the kid demands it. But do him a favour buy somebody else preloved full spec version. OG model. Do the mods and never fix it again.
They made these to cost in spares.
Neither, Get a Team Associated. No disrespect to an awesome channel.
RC flavors for everyone. 😄
Get whatever puts a smile on your face. This will make me 😃
I would not recommend this product. Got one esc fried on first drive and front skid plate cracked immediately
This VLX RC should have came with ESC and motor Fan's for $430 !!!!!!! Not Cool Traxxas !!!!!!!
Junk!!! Plastic drive shafts😂😂😂😂 slash 4x4 on 3s 10 seconds and drive shafts gone! That looked like the same crap!!!
Some body should tell traxxas that ford isnt the only car company in the world
Or you can brush up on your knowledge about licensing.
