its part of the game.. fight all practice, then leave it on the field and your best friends after. last year on my team two kids ripped their helmets off and started fighting and my couches just let it go. but as soon as practice was over they gave each other a big hug and said "damn your tough! glad you've always got my back!" and the other said "always"
Basically, it's one guy trying to move the other out of the hole. It provides a good chance for the coaches to evaluate each player's technique, heart, and discipline in a highly competitive environment against equivalent competition on the team. It is a great drill because of that, the fact that it gets guys fired up and boost moral during tough/intense practice sessions in the off-season, and it helps guys get acclaimed to their pads early in the year.
Yeah I know, amazingly he will still probably go into the NFL. So many people out there who have their heads in the right place will never even get the opportunity to showcase their skills at the collegiate level.
I know that they are competing for a starting spot, but no matter what, no matter if the guy across from if is better, you don't retaliate and fight the guy, you just work harder and make him better for in game situations and maybe work into a starting spot yourself. That's how football works. I was a 2nd stringer on varsity sophomore year and junior year... then senior year I started every game.
i remeber when we use to do these i didnt mind the hit i just couldnt stand the headbut because sometimes it would jam my neck. you can only get so low before you actually can't get balanced.
in football you may fight at practice buts all love because during the game you know that we're all going to war for each other and thats what its all about
Really, I think it's just a competition drill that teaches you strong hands and quick driving feet. Every time we do it, it's more of an internal competition drill to see who wants it more.
@Herc2770 It's what we call a "cut block" when a player goes for the knees. It's usually called when the play is going to the opposite side. A "chop block" is illegal. It's when a defensive lineman is already engaged with a offensive lineman and another offensive lineman goes for the knees of the defensive player. Look up "Glenn Dorsey Chop Block" for a good example. And tripping is against the rules!
@Herc2770 As far as I know it's if intentionally stick your foot out. It's really easy to get way with it if you act like you fell down. I've done it a few times!
Amen. My teams good and all but discipline and keeping comments to ourselves was a big fucking problem that slowed us down from having an undefeated season.
@Herc2770 Besides when @skinnybills said, it's also to make sure the linemen are getting low enough. The lowest player will usually win unless one player dives, of course.
i also started varisty my sophomore year, i play ot, #24 is a prob a dl, what they are supposed to do it slip the offensive lineman and sack the qb, thats what he did, he slipped past the ol and he just happen to fall...watch it again slowly.
I play varsity football at slidell high and that actually is neither smart or dumb. if your opponents on the ground hes not in the chase, but if he falls in a hole you stopped the play. it all depends on where you are on the field of play
and yes i know the point of the drills, and you are correct, they are supposed to see who can get most ground, and yes he did mess up, but its his nature to slip a ol.
Man. You don't understand. If you ever played on a good organized football team it's like a different high speed primal part of your brain activates when you're out there.
@oneloveyalls perfectly normal, i was the same, just try and view this as something fun, i just say to myself i'd rather be doing this then running laps or doing sprints haha

I love the sound of pads popping in the morning
When you're out there with that level of intensity the best of friends can get chippy with one another, it's a part of the sport.
I love doing this drill, you learn whether your strong or not.
Tyrann Mathieu looks so damn small, but quick, fearless, and takes what he wants when he wants it.
i used to be nervous as hell doing these, now i cant wait to do them.
no wonder why they're so good. they're big as hell.
@Herc2770 It shows what a player can do under pressure. It also is a way to have contact drills with a low chance of injury
these drills keep your killer instinct high!
in pee wee and highschool football we called this drill "my house" and if u won u got to stay and u screamed my house everytime u won
Yeah I know, amazingly he will still probably go into the NFL. So many people out there who have their heads in the right place will never even get the opportunity to showcase their skills at the collegiate level.

The most fun drill of ALL football!
"I'm here! I'm here! I'm here!"
DAMN I WISH I WAS THERE I WANT SOME SO BAD MAN! GOOD SHIT!
in football you may fight at practice buts all love because during the game you know that we're all going to war for each other and thats what its all about

The whole time, i was waiting for tyrann mathieu to get in ! he was over on the side pumped !
@ELSP73 always 3 point, 4 point is only if your coach wants you to be inside on goal line to cut the o line so the line of scrimmage doesnt move
whatever it takes to make practice fun and productive
this looks like so much fun!!!!
You only get nervous doing these if you go in thinking your gonna loose. Just like a game to in confident you will be just fine.
@Herc2770 As far as I know it's if intentionally stick your foot out. It's really easy to get way with it if you act like you fell down. I've done it a few times!
They compete with each other for the job! so yeah, they are team mates, but also enemies in a competitive way.
I think he is referring to when those 2 guys at the beginning had a "stare down."
Amen. My teams good and all but discipline and keeping comments to ourselves was a big fucking problem that slowed us down from having an undefeated season.
So this is the pride, strength, and avoid looking weak drill?
all you gotta do is know that you're gonna destroy the other guy in front of you... the more you believe it the easier it is to do
I wonder what kind of shoulder pads does number 88 use?
@Mangomongo12 There was no problem. That is pretty much routine, that is just what happens when you have 2 men competing.
@ibike83 except that all the tight ends were wearing white and keke mingo was wearing purple. You got it backwards.
@Herc2770 Besides when @skinnybills said, it's also to make sure the linemen are getting low enough. The lowest player will usually win unless one player dives, of course.
0:34 is #88s name Chase Ford? I heard 'Chase'.
The only thing I can think of when he says "quick twitch" is Bill Burr.
Holy shit, those are some big ass football players.
Towards the end of the video you can see the honey badger in the front jumpin around hahaha
SEC Hits hard as hell
"Take his lunch money!" xD
@griffinathlete thats why this team went to the bcs championship and ucla didn't right?
those big guys make the pads look like childens toys
i also started varisty my sophomore year, i play ot, #24 is a prob a dl, what they are supposed to do it slip the offensive lineman and sack the qb, thats what he did, he slipped past the ol and he just happen to fall...watch it again slowly.
hey why is one side one color and the rest of the team another? that for first and second strings right?
some deep ass voices
This drill is a bitch if your opponent is stronger than you,but I guess that's the whole idea.
are all these people all on the same team
Exactly, people don't understand that throwing the person on the ground isn't the point of the drill.
Is that jordan jefferson?
2:54 AMAZING HIT!
aslong as they dont fight it'll just make them push harder which actually is better practice for everyone
look at tyrann in the back ground towards the end....stud
@juwamba ya feel me, teams need to be more like families, they wondering why they got shut out in the bcs
One thing u don't do in this drill is fall down cause u might not get back up
I play varsity football at slidell high and that actually is neither smart or dumb. if your opponents on the ground hes not in the chase, but if he falls in a hole you stopped the play. it all depends on where you are on the field of play
BACK UP BEHIND DA DAMN CONE! BEHIND DA DAMN CONE THERE! lol
I play in 7th grade and we call this call outs it's when your mad at someone you call them out
No tyrann mathieu?
whats the point of this exercise? One guy is trying to get over the other, like on the scrimmage?
No theres an east, west, north, south, and weast LSU thats why they're all wearing the same helmet.
Its called sumo push a bullrushing drill, for linemen
its called being an animal and doing whatever it takes to earn your spot on that football team...if you dont fight..you dont belong. welcome to LSU.
and yes i know the point of the drills, and you are correct, they are supposed to see who can get most ground, and yes he did mess up, but its his nature to slip a ol.

You will never understand this if you never played football before!..
"

They're trying to get in fights when they're on the same team? Wow.
If you're going to play football, make sure you're on the LSU team.
Barkevious got handled! hes spose to be a top draft prospect
They know how to hit, however moving the ball past the 50 yard line was too tough of a lesson to learn.
