- This is a comic book unboxing video where I open up a grail i just traded for. In this video I will show you a trade where I sent $5,500 in comic books to The Geek Aficionado and he send me this grail. This was an awesome trade for both of us. Jimi is going for this series and I am trying to consolidate into another cornerstone level book for my foundational comic book collection. I really hope you enjoy this video and the content here. Subscribe for part 2 of this grail unboxing.

Omg! Dr Doom! Other than the original X-Men run, that first appearance of Doom is a personal grail. I'm so jealous!
Very nice book
Looks like afficianados congratulations
Yep! But it’s already gone. Only had it for about 20 hours.
looking forward to see what grail you're acquiring. I'd take the golden age books over the FF5 personally, but I'm not a big FF fan.
Congratulations! Not on my grail list but can’t imagine the joy of having a personal grail in hand. Congratulations again!
Big congrats!
Hello all
I am very proud of what you were doing. The fact that you were treating something that you do not care about no matter what the value is to get something that you do. Care about is fantastic.
Awesome FF book. Can’t wait to see what it turns into.
Dr. Doom...one of the most awsome villains in comics!!
I'd keep that!
Yeah. It’s a sweet book. Definitely a major major blue chip key.
@@AlextheComicHoarder Easily one of the most important Marvel comics ever! :)
Great book but I would rather have TMNT#1, X-Men#1, Amazing Fantasy#15 and Batman#1 those are my grails and I think a lot of other people's grails as well.
Very nice choices. Imagine owning all of those at the same time. That’s basically all you’d need.
I was the $5,040 buyer on the FF5!!!!!!
Wow congrats dude!
I’m excited to see the book you are ultimately trading to acquire - FF is not my favorite title - so it’s a safe bet I am going to like your acquisition better. I just bought Whiz comics #65 (4.5) ungraded where Captain Marvel beats up 2 bank robbers. True grails are out of my range.
That is excellent that you got that Whiz. Honestly, that’s how you do it. As means allow, grab books like that. They have appeal and aren’t the run of the mill fodder you see out there. Build up the collection with those. You might only be able to buy one a month or one every other month; but imagine the collection a year from now. You’ll have a nice stack of really cool books.
My grail is Avengers #1
That is a killer killer book. Do you want me to coach you on your quest to getting that grail?
Well, I'm eating lasagna right now watching this and what?! You're trading the FF#5?!
I assume you've traded it along with some other of your books to get another book to be revealed later. I wish I had some garlic bread right now. 😃
First of all lasagna sounds incredible. Second thanks for watching! I actually am doing a 1-1 trade on this next deal. It’s not going to be everyone’s cup of tea though. I’m probably going to get a little grief for it too. I acknowledge that FF5 is a major heavy hitting blue chip key. It’s a grail to a lot of people for sure.
A big part of my collection is first appearances of villains, so I personally would hang onto and treasure that book. 🙂 Congrats!
FF5 peaked out at $10k. The books you traded range in price $300-600 each x12, so about $5k so a fair trade. Really hard to say but the Tara run is really cool and something I'm working on. However, Dr. Doom is possibly the best Marvel villain.
That's a great book! However, I wouldn't consider it as a grail book. I would consider the Marvel grails to be AF #15, FF #1, Hulk #1, and maybe X-Men #1. FF #5, Spider-Man #1, Avengers #1, Tales of Suspense #39, and JIM #83 are all keys, but not grails. Still, you have a great book! Congrats!
Amazing trade Alex! As you know, I’ve transitioned from a run collector to a top 40 collector. I feel we are on similar paths and once books are on the trading block, they get traded or sold pretty quickly since I’ve already set my mind in the next goal. Thanks for the ongoing inspiration! 🙏🤙
You inspire me too brother.
The comic boom was nuts lol. Lots of people made money, but many lost HARD.
Speaking of hard. Have you heard they were able to recreate the vocal cords of Abraham Lincoln to simulate how he would sound.
@@AlextheComicHoarder "I'm out here..."
Looking forward to seeing what you get in trade 😉
Haha. Hmmm I wonder.
Nice pickup, even if it's for a brief moment. No idea what you're about to get, but I do like Doom. Love my villains, especially on the covers.
Great book Alex, looking forward to seeing what you trade it for :)
I’d love to trade with my collection but unsure how to go about it, especially with higher value books with people you may not know online . Do you have any advice on trading you could put in a video if possible ? Many thanks 👍
Man I'd have held on to that one for awhile. Value may not get back up to 10k again for awhile, but with the FF movie coming out, you know Doom is going to be in it. That's going to send that book back up! Has me curious what you traded that for tho!
Either way it’s a cool trade I don’t think you can go wrong with either
So what did you do with the book?
Instantly traded it for another book. Will get that one later this week.
Although the books you traded were awsome I think that's a great trade
Thanks I agree. Anytime I can trade multiple books for one of similar value it’s a good day for me.
@@AlextheComicHoarder yes sir
That's a lot of roster changes for one video! Glad you showed that off.
I know. You speak the truth. I was saying in another comment that once I flirt with getting rid of a book or a stack of books, they are basically dead to me. I had people say, don’t trade those, but I had already written them out of my collection by the time I had the thought of getting rid of them. I feel that I am transitioning from a foundational collector to a corner stone collector. Maybe I’ll explore that in a future video.
Looking forward to it. There are obvious levels to the collecting game, and it seems you are reaching a new one.
Thanks for putting the offer out there Alex. So stoked for the books to get here to enjoy them. Thank you again for making this so easy.
Alex congratulations you broke 10k and yes it’s a grail!
Thank you so much. I feel like 10k is the max my channel will ever get and I’m blessed and honored to have achieved it. This community is the best.
I can't wait to see what you got, but I can't IMAGINE trading that book lol. But hey, it's called a personal collection for a reason. 😛
Love your comment. It is so true. When people see what I’m getting they will probably think I am crazy. It’s not really something that is going to have broad appeal. There will be people that will hope this next book isn’t the stopping point.
I've always wanted to do an NBA-style multi-team trade! Can't wait to see what you end up with 👍
Haha. That is awesome. I love trading. Let me know if you want to get in on some of that action. I need more DC keys!!!
FF #5 is a pretty awesome book, so if you traded it for something else, I will assume you're getting something I would probably like more than the FF, too, lol. Especially if it's a book that's on your cornerstone keeper list. Can't wait to see it.
HazelDan. I hope you’re right. You two have always been very savvy collectors. Going after cornerstone level books. Also, I think the three of us have progressed from the blue chip hunting to the obscure rarities of the hobby. I said it in another comment that I think I’m transitioning from a foundational comic collector into a cornerstone collector. I need to explore more of what that actually looks like for me.
Agreed. Me and my wife focused on first tier Silver Age books 15 years ago and got them secured in our collection before getting the 2nd and 3rd tier books. We transitioned to Golden Age grails a couple of years ago. It gets much harder in this stage, for sure. As you well know, it's very difficult to get those without gutting the collection. We think you are doing the right thing. You can probably get another copy of FF 5 down the road if you really want it.
@@hazeldan1216 maybe we should do a live show. I always enjoy your content and the love show opinions you all have. You are always the voices of reason.
@AlextheComicHoarder Thanks, man. It's easy to be the voice of reason on that stream, lol. Love those guys. Sure, let's do a live video together. It sounds like fun. We've tried to send this a few times now, and our message keeps disappearing. I'm not sure what's going on. I hope they aren't all going through making us look crazy lol.
Fantastic book, interesting to see it turn into the next book! I love the idea of just offering up a grip of comics to field offers. I’d like to know more about how that all went down!
Absolutely! Also, for me once I flirt with getting rid of books they basically become dead to me. I had a few people say, “don’t get rid of those.” At that point the thought had already crossed my mind and the books were outcasts in the collection. I’ve almost transitioned from foundational collecting to cornerstone collecting.
@@AlextheComicHoarder I love it. You have some great mental strategies that have helped you churn your collection into the cream.
Correct me if I’m wrong, you posted those books on IG with the price you felt they were worth (as a lot) and asked others to make offers with any big book around the same value? Or were you specific about the book (or kind of book you wanted)? I really wanna try this (at 1/5 the price scale). Thanks for the advice and motivation!
@@dansxmencomics yep. That’s pretty much how it went. It got a big collector, a dealer and Jimi’s bloom pumping. They were each trying to figure out how to make it work. It all about being realistic to what you have and how desirable that bait is to someone who has the 1-2 books you want. Is it worth it to them? are you making sure you’re honoring your investments and interests.
@@AlextheComicHoarder sweet! Thanks, my man! Looking forward to seeing the other side of this trade.
