India's performance in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) faces challenges due to how the education system is set up. In India, there is a big focus on exams like the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), which stresses quick problem-solving and memorizing over understanding and creativity. This focus makes it hard for students to develop the problem-solving skills needed for success in the IMO. There are also many fake Olympiads, like the SOF IMO, that can mislead students and take away time and resources from real preparation. Additionally, many students feel pressure to pursue careers in engineering and medicine, so they don’t focus as much on mathematics. This contributes to why India doesn’t have as many celebrated mathematicians or Fields Medal winners. Unless the education system starts to focus more on creativity and exploration, India's achievements in international math competitions will likely continue to lag behind other countries.
Another point to note is that when I speak the truth, some obnoxious people reply that I can’t clear the JEE, which is why I must be saying all this nonsense. They claim the JEE is the hardest exam in the world and dismiss any criticism, insisting that the JEE is the best.

K R Parthasarthy was the head of math at IIT Delhi for a while, sorry to hear he has passed away. I can't remember the name of the fellow who taught us Laplace transforms. I believe he was an algebraist (we vaguely understood such specialization even back then), but he was delighted to be teaching a bunch of very smart would-be engineers and scientists -- he could barely keep his feet on the ground. Looking back, I would fault the faculty at IIT D for not engaging the students in research -- faculty in the US would commit serious felonies to compete with each other for the chance to have such talented students.
Namaste sir! It is Kushe (Desmostachya bipinnata) Aunsi of hindu religion today. I would like to request you to make us light on this topic and the importance of Desmostachya bipinnata(Kush) in the point of view of Ayurveda.
I am reminded of another joke on mathematics. A young lady asks a quiz at a party . . two cars are traveling towards each other at 5 kmph. The cars are 10 km apart. As the cars start moving, a bee starts flying from one are to the other at 30 kmph speed. When it reaches the opposite car, it turns around and starts flying towards the first car and so on until the two cars meet. The question was how much distance did the bee fly until the cars met. A math professor replied "30 km" in a moment. The lady said, your are a genius, Sir. It is simple, the cars would take one hour to meet and the bee would have have covered 30 km in that hour. But some silly persons would make it into a problem of infinite series and take all the time to solve the series. The professor exclaimed , but that is how I did it.
This joke apparently involves a physicist and von Neumann. von Neumann solved it in a blaze, and the physicist was not much slower. When they were questioned, the physicist said he multiplied the total time with the bee's speed. "Holy macro!" said von Neumann. "I summed the series." Incidentally, exactly this problem is quite challenging for many undergrads in the US when posed as a series question. They all enjoy it, but setting it up is not easy for them.
Superb podcast. Please also have an episode on Memory Championships - I'm not sure if people from our country participate in it. But it will be incredibly interesting.

India should provide all IMO medal winners a direct admission in IISc, IIT, NIT, BITS of their choice. If MIT, Oxford etc can do it then why can’t IITs do it.
They should go beyond that. Why not the top 1000 students, on qualifiers. Such students have demonstrated they are capable of hard work and mastery. Admissions needs more flexibility. JEE isn't the only way to identify talent.
This is the kind of podcast the country needs...

Pythagoras, for whom the theorem is named, lived in ancient Greece, 2500 years ago. It is believed that he learned the theorem during his studies in Egypt. The Egyptians probably knew of the relationship for a thousand years before Pythagoras.
Great podcast! Niranjan and Krishnan- fantastic job 💕
@@paperclips1306Egyptians knew about it much before prior to sulbasutra was created
@@descendantofbharatbharatva7155 yes they did. I don't deny it. Egyptians are the cradle of civilization. I have no question on one thing. The so-called Pythagoras theorem was very well known by the time Pythagoras existed . This is undeniable.
Respected Sir
Your videos are highly informative and I appreciate the way you're creating awareness about Sanskrit and Shudh Hindi language.
Kindly guide about the career options for school students interested to study Sanskrit as their main subject/specialization.

"I summed the series."
Incidentally, exactly this problem is quite challenging for many undergrads in the US when posed as a series question. They all enjoy it, but setting it up is not easy for them.
@@whaddoiknow6519 . Quite possibly so . . .
Thanks sir for inviting such a elite mind of our nation..
Superb podcast. Please also have an episode on Memory Championships - I'm not sure if people from our country participate in it. But it will be incredibly interesting.
Comparing Chess with Mathematics is reducing Mathematics to very small level. Maths is Huge
I used to teach post grad bio statistics, I looked forward to Indian students, they dont need hand holding, motivation talks. Our projects are fantastic exercises mind over matter.
Loved the discussion
Without Maths physics and chemistry will fail...
Congratulations CBSE CORE ❤❤❤
Fabulous podcast!!
Great podcast..
I gave the 1000th like ❤
India should provide all IMO medal winners a direct admission in IISc, IIT, NIT, BITS of their choice.
If MIT, Oxford etc can do it then why can’t IITs do it.
Exactly!
They should go beyond that. Why not the top 1000 students, on qualifiers. Such students have demonstrated they are capable of hard work and mastery. Admissions needs more flexibility. JEE isn't the only way to identify talent.
They already cleared IIT advance
I agree to some extent
