However, many MTech students from IISc choose to pursue PhDs at IIT B due to the shortage of faculty in this area at IISc, which I hope the institute addresses. While IISc is indisputed KING in theory and systems (no IIT comes close), the administration should also invest heavily in recruiting professors in the AI/ML domain, similar to IIT B and D. I'll be attempting the GATE exam in CS next year and plan to pursue a direct PhD (regardless of my rank) as I have prior research experience from my UG. My dream was always IISc but I'm concerned about the limited number of profs (only 1 or 2) working in my field compared to the 5 to 10 at IIT D, B and Kgp even! I hope IISc addresses this issue soon 😥

Iisc is something more of a dream for me which is way beyond need for getting into big tech giants, which I believe I can anyway get into even if not through placement of iisc or iits
