You can obviously draw, so why are you using bases?
1) it lets me design show-accurate designs - i wouldnt be able to see how a design would translate to the show style unless i had a base. i could attempt to replicate the style myself but it would take more time than it is worth, since i could never get it 100% right.
2) its fun. it lets me relax and have a good time with art, since drawing without a base is often stressful and much more time-consuming than using a base. i like to take time to make simple art with bases in between other projects.
3) people work hard to make bases and i like showing off the really good ones. i personally make bases and i know the skill that goes into making a very useable and clean base. its nice to work with and share good bases.
4) it takes the focus away from creating perfect anatomy and onto creating a good design. i dont always use bases for designs, but when i do i find it easier to jump in and get it done, since i dont have to worry about the other stuff. basically, i have more time and therefore effort allowed to me to focus on design.
this definitely wasnt a rude comment, but please keep in mind that base users get these comments all the time. i get at least one a day and i dont need anyone to tell me the pros and cons of base using anymore. im not concerned with stagnating progress, and i dont find it morally wrong to take shortcuts sometimes. youre free to not use bases, but i'll continue to use them.
