I've never seen a more wonderful female vocalist. She has perfect control of her instrument...and she "acts" her songs. That indicates complete understanding of the lyrics. I'm speechless, again.
The 60's influence comes from that musical segment near the end w/ the guitar, people have likened it to Lesley Gore's "You Don't Own Me" which was recorded in 1963. If you listen to it, you can hear why there's a xylophone in this video as it does stand out as an instrument in "You Don't Own Me"
Yes, "You Don't Own Me" came to mind as soon as I heard that segment. Also, the b. sax is rarely heard in today's pop music...but it was more common then. It was the stand-out instrument, for example, in "Calendar Girl" by Neil Sedaka (1960).
Thanks, Kent! Yes, "amazing" and "hypnotic" are perfect descriptors for Haley. This was the first time in 6 years that Haley and Scott Bradlee's PMJ teamed up to produce a gem of a video! The last time they worked together, there were 6+ videos, and I REALLY hope we're in for many more like this one.
