  • This is an original compositions in the key of D minor. The lever on the G chord (far left from the players point of view) is down so the chord is tuned to G minor. The melody section extends from lower A to a top E - all natural notes - plus B flats. I also borrow a low G from the C major chord as a melody note.

This is the melody that contains the most beautiful feelings I've ever heard in my life, thank you.

This is the most beautiful melody I have ever heard played on a zither. I always thought zithers to be a bit devoid of feeling. Waw.

I could listen to this all day, the music of the zither, and never get tired of it!

    Beautiful minor key.
What about modals - Ionian, Dorian, Mixolydian, etc ????

Hello. I just checked it on Wikipedia. On the 5 chord zither, I am using major which is Ionian and natural minor which is Aeolian. I don't think I use any other mode but I might have touched on them unknowingly.
      Cheers

      Thank you !!!!
I play several instruments and prefer modal music ... ie. "Celtic" - jigs, reels, and 'waltzes', etc.
I have an old 5 cord guitar-zither which has 'perplexed' and frustrated me endlessly. I've mostly attempted to play it via a 3-finger (right hand) guitar/ 5-string banjo technique.
You have greatly INSPIRED me to 'try again', in earnest, on the corded zither. Your left hand technique which applies 'staccato', 'dampening' and a precise rhythm to the 'voice' of the base cords .... is simply *beyond AMAZING*.
      Many thanks !!!

Thanks for your reply. I've been playing this instrument for quite some time . I started playing in 1973 so I've had plenty of time to refine the technique!

C'est sur l'index de la main gauche que je met un onglet - en anglais, c'est un "finger pick". C'est pour jouer les accords comme on gratte une guitare. Etienne

Is this played with the simplified but extended melody strings? A to e''' with only b flats as accidentals?

You are right. I have changed the piece description which wasn't accurate. It answers your question. Kind regards.
