I played this last summer and I felt so deep inside the game it was nuts...anyways, that proves that the envoirenment, originality, music, design can provoke a feeling on the players much more monumental than new careless games, and Unreal series is the proof of that. At least untill UT99
It's 2011.06.18 now, Battlefield 3, Rage, Modern Warfare 3, Gears of War 3 on the way. I'm chillin' on youtube. Found this soundtrack that came out in 1998. Started listening, goosebumps and chill all over my skin, tears in my eyes. Nostalgia kicks in. Reinstalling Unreal Gold...
The good old Unreal has one of the best soundtracks i've ever heard in a game. Always getting goosebumps when I hear it :-D. I still play this game. The atmosphere is still one of the best :-)
Half-Life man. I played Unreal Tournament before any of the Half-Life games, but yea. I don't think I played any of Unreal 1 until 2008 or so. I didn't get it until this year or last. Soundtrack amazing as usual.
In 1998 I had Pentium 200 MMX, and i've bought 3dfx voodoo 2 (12 MB) to play unreal. Loved this game so much, especialy for wonderful atmosperic soundtrack ( Michiel van den Bos and Alexander Brandon
For those interested, the music here was composed using a Korg Wavestation which is one of the more interesting of the early 90s synths. Most of Epic Game's music UT99 and prior was composed using this synth which is partly responsible for the unique sounds. The wave station actually has the ability to take multiple sound samples and rapidly blend between them creating the trademark soundscapes heard here.
This music haunted me as a kid, in a good way. Though in my youth I cheated my way through doors I couldn't open - playing the game just felt GOOD. I bought the game yesterday and am playing through it again, hopefully with less cheating this time.
@Brigho I agree. The first unreal blew my mind. Especially the first mission on your first go. Do you remember the door on that level were the people on the other side are getting massacred. All these years later I still hear those screams.
@Stonezorz Jep, he did. The sountrack was mainly done by Michiel Van Den Bos and Alexander Brandon (while working for Straylight Productions which is the company that did the Unreal soundtrack for Epic Games). The later of the two was also involved in the Jazz Jackrabbit 2 soundtrack. Look at their wikipedia pages.
@UtubeH8tr musics from the past like this one can melt your heart. Listening to this music brings back old memories when i first got this game. Unreal 1 has everything i ever wanted to have in a game, amazing music, very good story, creative character and monster designs, beautiful levels and good gameplay. Today's games are more now copies of eachother, damn Halo for ruining the gaming worlds, not to talk about youngsters with their Xbox 360 consoles and their CODMW2 game or whatnot.
@UtubeH8tr They really were great storytellers weren't they? Unreal is an experience every gamer should feel at least once. It's a story and a world that stays with you forever because unlike many modern games, you were IN the story. You never felt as though you were watching the action, you had no map or compass, or helpful objectives to show you the way. The story was yours to own and experience and the feeling of accomplishment in the end was truly genuine.
Only games I can think of is, Unreal (Gold, Napali), Nox, Diablo 2, Unreal Tournament, Age of Empires 1/2, most of these were made in the 1999's era, and damn.. I miss them, such wonderful soundtracks with amazing gameplay
@Kyrkby This is the main theme for unreal gold. However if, like myself, you own the original game when it was first released, this is not the theme music and is indeed only the end theme. But on the gold version this is also the main theme music. Dunno why they got rid of the original main theme music in the gold release.
best game sondtrack ever! ! ! it sonds like Jean M Jarre or Vangelis....still giving me the same trill after all these years.....got find a way to play this game again....
My first LAN party at work was with the original Unreal, Deck16 and Morpheus were phenomenal maps to play...ahh the good times:):) They don't make games like this anymore.
Me too :D Weird but at the time this was quite hard for me to go past, especially when those brutes came up from nowhere :) Also a really cool game, even though I haven't finished it yet, I really liked the mood and the mystic of it....
@Stumpy0 Oh yes!!! Unreal will always be an epic milestone for me. The first game I got for my new PII with a 3DFX Voodoo II card in 1998.. after several years without computer (since '93) There is something about the story and feeling in this game that draws me back even today :D Sequel: yes please!
Did the guy who worked on the Jazz Jackrabbit soundtracks also work on the Unreal soundtrack? It sounds amazingly similar in a good way, yet darker to fit the theme of Unreal more.
The original .umx files can be played on winamp. I dl the oirignal game and copied the files. Also they music can be downloaded from a massive webpage with loads of soundtracks, sadly I don't remember the name.
@Stumpy0 i was always a fan of id games.. had just finished quake 2.. and borrowed this. blew me away. didnt like 2 that much but this game has to be one of the best single player fps ive ever played. even remaking it with ut3 graphics would be amazing
Yep I replayed Unreal again with some graphics mods just recently about 6 months ago...fuckin epic atmosphere! God this game and deus ex makes me wish I could rewind back time so I could go back and just rediscover them for the first time!
@Wombleonastick Unreal's story was simply amazing but not because of how complex or clever it was, but because of how immersed you were in it. It still has one of the best atmospheres in history of gaming - the world was beautiful and horrifying at the same time, and it actually made you feel sad for the oppressed Nali, and perhaps even start to hate the Skaarj for their dominion of the peaceful race. It might have not been the most creative or ingenious story, but it was still a great one,
@Wombleonastick especially combined with the great universe it was set in. Unreal got an expansion pack, also made by a different company, just like in case of half life. And while I'm not denying that half life 2 is a great game, to be honest, it's storyline has little to do with Half Life 1. Sure, the events in HL1 set off everything which happened in HL2, but to be fair, almost everything is completely unrelated, the only similarity being most weapons, couple enemies and friendly characters.
@Wombleonastick CoD 1,2 and 3 are spin offs, they're all based on WWII but not sequels, and they are in the same universe it explains it in the whole series of UT
I've come into troubles finding this song for download. Can anyone help me? I want it in .ogg format or any format I can use Winamp to convert it to .ogg.
"Between the time when IGN greated DOOM, and the rise of HALF-LIFE, there was an age undreamed of. And unto this, a nameless hero, destined to wear the jeweled crown of IMMORTAL GAMING HISTORY upon a troubled brow. It is I, his chronicler, who alone can tell thee of his saga. Let me tell you of the days of high adventure in gaming!"
deus ex used the same engine, which has it´s own music engine, with it´s own instrument sounds etc, so whatever input is given, it has a very specific sound because of the engine. kinda like how super nintendo games all sound similar :P
Will fps like Thief, Unreal, Quake ever return? We must unite true gamers, make gaming matter again. ( I guess the music really works, it inspired me right now)
hah! the only reason i know that is because i remember deus ex being made with the unreal engine, and i remember unreal tournament (based on the same engine) having a soundtrack player in it, and the files it played weren´t ordinary sound files. when i played deus ex, i found a player in that game too, and the files it played were the same format.
True Game Art, Music and Grafix perfekt, a masterpice compared to modern COD 1234455 BF344556 games. From a time where shooting games were fun! Unreal 4EVER! The Unreal and Deus ex mods are legendray, i hope such dynamic Music will 1 daya return to games instead of rendered mp3 format!
If you don't know what to do after 4:43 I can tell you. Go to Google and type "Unreal HD download" or "Unreal HD shop". Eventualy you can replace "HD" with "Gold" ;)
when i think about Unreal, i think about how i used to spend just as much money back then for drooling on godlike graphics of certains games as i do today.
it´s one of the best games ever. and it placed a lot of milestones in video game history... epic games just rules... i hope, UNREAL III will be more like Unreal I than Unreal II
lol true. Well I haven't played the 3rd one yet...waiting until all DLC's out and on sale then gonna re-play all three. Hope the ending isn't as bad as everyone makes out.
They don't make games like this anymore. I wish games had that alien feel to them like this, that spark of imagination where you truly feel you're on an alien world with aliens. It was f****ing long too.
i love this game. One of my top favorite shooter. I do not understand, why epic does not create a new unreal like this one.
I realy miss this game, the gameplay, the music, the story, this brings back some good memories. Thanks for the upload.
I played this last summer and I felt so deep inside the game it was nuts...anyways, that proves that the envoirenment, originality, music, design can provoke a feeling on the players much more monumental than new careless games, and Unreal series is the proof of that. At least untill UT99

Unreal is a magical experience. They really put a lot of love and care in this game and it shows. Flak Cannon ftw!
nice song, unreal is a truly fascinating and amazing game, 5 stars just for having this vid posted
Man I remember this game when I was a little kid.
The good old Unreal has one of the best soundtracks i've ever heard in a game. Always getting goosebumps when I hear it :-D. I still play this game. The atmosphere is still one of the best :-)
This whole piece is very touching. Especially 3:53...
Half-Life man. I played Unreal Tournament before any of the Half-Life games, but yea. I don't think I played any of Unreal 1 until 2008 or so. I didn't get it until this year or last. Soundtrack amazing as usual.
Me too. The lights going out in that hallway at the beginning gave me a heart attack :)
LEGENDARY MUSIC people, I still miss this game so much!
In 1998 I had Pentium 200 MMX, and i've bought 3dfx voodoo 2 (12 MB) to play unreal. Loved this game so much, especialy for wonderful atmosperic soundtrack ( Michiel van den Bos and Alexander Brandon
Quite a dream system for Unreal 1 back in the days.
For those interested, the music here was composed using a Korg Wavestation which is one of the more interesting of the early 90s synths.

simply amazing

They should, it's a beautiful genre.
Mass Effect doesn't have a unique world, it has unique worlds, but I know what you mean, I love this game :D
I'm glad someone still likes Mass Effect
Unreal. . . is unreal. Divine.
@UtubeH8tr They really were great storytellers weren't they? Unreal is an experience every gamer should feel at least once. Developers doesnt make legendary soundtracks like this anymore. I can't mention a game from the near past where the soundtrack was so epic.
@Kyrkby This is the main theme for unreal gold. However if, like myself, you own the original game when it was first released, this is not the theme music and is indeed only the end theme.

@Stumpy0 UT3 was "Gears of War: Tournament" if anything.
@SgtAurora WOW! Congrats my friend! Unreal 1 is a game that sould not be forgotten! 8D
My first LAN party at work was with the original Unreal, Deck16 and Morpheus were phenomenal maps to play...ahh the good times:):) They don't make games like this anymore.
@Brigho it definitely had its moment of pure inspiration where people could do the creative content they wanted
So freakin awesome! Anyone know where I could get an mp3 of this?
Me too :D
Weird but at the time this was quite hard for me to go past, especially when those brutes came up from nowhere :)
Also a really cool game, even though I haven't finished it yet, I really liked the mood and the mystic of it....
Amazing composer.
Unreal was ..... something else!
i love the intro music for this game.its epic
@guardytube I guess I just wish I had gotten to play it when I was younger...I got to play Unreal Tournament on my dreamcast though.
@Stumpy0 Oh yes!!! Unreal will always be an epic milestone for me. The first game I got for my new PII with a 3DFX Voodoo II card in 1998.. after several years without computer (since '93)
There is something about the story and feeling in this game that draws me back even today :D
Sequel: yes please!
this music inst from the title this music is from unreal 1 credits i remember thta game awsome game
@Stumpy0 the tournament ones are direct sequels..
@anon6644 It plays at the end of the game after you beat the queen and escape.
I miss unreal so much... you know like what they did with Halo Ce and made anniversary, thumbs up if they should do somthing like that for this.
Did the guy who worked on the Jazz Jackrabbit soundtracks also work on the Unreal soundtrack? It sounds amazingly similar in a good way, yet darker to fit the theme of Unreal more.

Madness? This is not SPARTA, THIS IS UNREAL!

Great song:)
Yep I replayed Unreal again with some graphics mods just recently about 6 months ago...fuckin epic atmosphere! God this game and deus ex makes me wish I could rewind back time so I could go back and just rediscover them for the first time!
I love UTIII as much as I love all the Unreal franchise as a whole. I agree with you HirkDeKnirk. UTIII is not a lame game.
this song doesent play in my unreal 1 as tittle,
why?
i got some other song instead and i havent heard in here.
@SgtAurora played though it recently myself. The atmosphere of this game is still unmatchable :)

Remeber this game so much! I loved it, but found it scary :P
Unreal, one of the best games in history...
Fucking epic game! Fucking epic music!!!
"Between the time when IGN greated DOOM, and the rise of HALF-LIFE, there was an age undreamed of. And unto this, a nameless hero, destined to wear the jeweled crown of IMMORTAL GAMING HISTORY upon a troubled brow. It is I, his chronicler, who alone can tell thee of his saga. yea i heard it at end, sounds beutiful.
deus ex used the same engine, which has it´s own music engine, with it´s own instrument sounds etc, so whatever input is given, it has a very specific sound because of the engine. kinda like how super nintendo games all sound similar :P
Will fps like Thief, Unreal, Quake ever return? We must unite true gamers, make gaming matter again. ( I guess the music really works, it inspired me right now)
Unreal Tournament= Badass game, excellent bot AI and gameplay.
About time to play Unreal i guess
Yeah that game's amazing with a unique world too definitely. But I want a FPS where you're isolated and everything's shrouded in mystery.
thumbs up from me.
@UtubeH8tr well said, bravo! I'd like to add Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries to that list - another favorite of my childhood.
i agree with you there....
I want a UT99 remake based on Unreal Engine 3 !
With real dodges, no double jumps, with the older gameplay :D
they just dont make them like they used to
so much nostalgia
hah! the only reason i know that is because i remember deus ex being made with the unreal engine, and i remember unreal tournament (based on the same engine) having a soundtrack player in it, and the files it played weren´t ordinary sound files. when i played deus ex, i found a player in that game too, and the files it played were the same format.

@Master91474
That scared me so much, and later when a Brute surprised me :D
If you don't know what to do after 4:43 I can tell you. Go to Google and type "Unreal HD download" or "Unreal HD shop". Eventualy you can replace "HD" with "Gold" ;)
2:51 ehh epic part and 3:00 please God give me more sound like this !!
when i think about Unreal, i think about how i used to spend just as much money back then for drooling on godlike graphics of certains games as i do today.
it´s one of the best games ever. and it placed a lot of milestones in video game history... epic games just rules...
i hope, UNREAL III will be more like Unreal I than Unreal II
@Stumpy0
Well, tell me- who will play it if they would make sequal of very old game ?Even it WAS awesome?
Did you notice the similarity in soundtrack between Deus Ex and Unreal - especially in this track...
comon, you cant compare a single player oriented game with a multiplayer focused game, both are great
guys i am trying to download unreal 1 again.. but i cant find it any where.. can any one help me??
This is the best song in the game but this was at the end i think.
oh man this is SOOOOOOOOOO epic at 3:10...
i have played UT but never Unreal itself
I WANT THIS GAME TO COME OUT FOR XBOX LIVE ARCADE!!
Some parts of this reminds me of the music from Deus Ex
0:00 to 4:43 BEST PART!
This is the AWESOME ending song noyt the title
Damn Nice ... very nice :P
1 half life
2 doom (Raven Softwares Heretic and Hexen too)
3 quake
4 unreal (of cource it must be even first position in list, Love so much)
where i can find this one . in mp3 ?
Nostalgia. When i listen this i remember Deus Ex(2000)
Because like button is just not enough.
lol true. Well I haven't played the 3rd one yet...waiting until all DLC's out and on sale then gonna re-play all three. Hope the ending isn't as bad as everyone makes out.

We are the Half - life , doom, quake and unreal generation.......
If only Epic would make a 'true' sequel to this game instead of focusing on their tournament series.
