I've got one of these for several years. You don't want to invest the fuel bowl close to the top. This nullifies the gasification and it's too close for the spirit burner as well. Keep the burner or fuel bowl low as it's supposed to be and with wood stack it vertically and dense filling the chamber and it will get hot and have decent burn.
I too have Tomshoo wood gas stove and it's excellent 😁

The "same 2 things" are 2 different sizes, they're the newer version , the big one is an ash catcher, the smaller one that you have is an alcohol bowl

And also, it's modular. You can do whatever the heck you want with it.
