- Hey guys, I know that this is definitely NOT a Game Theory, and IRL reactions are something I've never really done like this. While I definitely don't intend on making this kind of video a regular presence on the channel, in this very special instance I felt so strongly about the issue that I wanted to say something on a personal note. You've no doubt heard the story over the last week. Viner turned social media star Logan Paul uploaded an exploitative and disrespectful video. A LOT has already been said about that. Instead, I'm here today to comment on RUclips's response. A week after the video, RUclips released an open letter saying that it will take steps to address the situation, but as we all know, they sometimes OVERCORRECT in times like this. So before RUclips takes any actions that might potentially harm the creators and viewers on this platform, I have a few words that I’d like to share.

I appreciate the fact that Matpat A youtuber who works with youtube and is one they advertise a lot, is the one stating this. As it's further proof that this can't be ignore anymore. Especially since Gametheory is close to 10 million subs this was a great risk as lord knows youtube hates it's talent criticizing it's business the fact that they took the risk of youtube starting to not want to advertise them is something i truely appreciate. I love how RUclips keeps Logan’s videos that show him tasing dead mice, making his untrained dog a service dog illegally, and even more yet the people who work hard on their videos get demonetized for no reason!!!
Here are some that got demonetized
- so many of Threadbangers random DIYs (yes they cuss but Logan does too, it is also against the rules to cuss at all in your videos, even bleeping it should cause a demonetization yet Threadbanger gets demonetized and Logan doesn’t!!!)
- SimplyNailogicals Peel Porn video where she peels off her nail polish with a peel off base coat and makes fun of it because she called it peel porn (she acts inappropriate but she did make a warning and yet Jake and Logan don’t when thy talk inappropriately and yet RUclips doesn’t demonetized it, even though Logan talks about how is channel is catered around children and Cristinne’s channel isn’t, her channel was supposed to be for adults and older teens, yet children watch her)
- so many more
It’s RUclips that’s killing their own community, they demonetized videos for no reason, and let the bad ones be, just because they’re famous

Thank you for writing this, i feel the same way about threadbanger and simply nail logical, they are two of my favorite channels and it isn't fair that they get punished like they do when they obviously work very hard on their content 😔
Atheists commenters get demonetized, markiplier and jacksepticeye videos sometimes get demonetized, propaganda videos of religious, racial, political subject and sometimes right wing videos don't get demonetized sometimes.
RUclips is following a path similar to Connor in Detroit: Become Human.
They keep having the option to do what is right or what gets them closer to their goal (Money).
However, RUclips must be going for the bad ending, because they keep choosing the latter.

I'm glad you took the time to think through the problem instead of just doing a hot take - those are valuable in their own way, but hearing an expert opinion on the youtube algorithm will hopefully help youtube handle this with more precision than their standard practice of nuking everything.

Matpat is the side character in a show that figures everything out before the main character (RUclips) does episodes before hand. And even then the main character makes mistakes and gets several characters (RUclipsrs) killed off before figuring out what matpat knew all along.

I cannot say how much I deeply appreciate this video. MatPat doesn't often do face-cam videos unless he's trying to get 100% real with whoever he's addressing. Those Undertale videos? He was trying to express to us -- the viewers -- how much it hurt him. He wanted to not only be real with us but real with the people who he wanted to address. And I'm sure it's not just him too, it's the whole team who is behind him and his Game Theory videos, Film Theory, The SCIENCE OF .... etc. They all work hard and you can freaking tell. I hope *this* gets across and people take a step back from all this Logan-Paul stuff to see what it actually has done to online videos as a whole. Thank you to everyone at Game Theory and beyond who work on this channel. I support you and I'm sure thousands of others do. I just hope it will be enough.

Gotta say when I first saw the title I thought “wow another RUclipsr trying to get views off the controversy” but in this video I actually saw emotion and anger. He had a genuine sort of speech that you could feel he is truly trying to express how things need to change. It’s likely he’s worried about his channel being affected because of the platform changes but it is so considerate to see him advocating for the smaller, hard working content creators out there

But Matpat is actually known putting a lot of hardwork and research in his videos. I mean, the guy makes theories for Christ's sake. And that's precisely what he did here, he logically pointed out the exact problem in RUclips's algorithm rather than ranting about the Paul brothers. This is the kind of analysis I expect whenever I click on a Game Theory or Film Theory video.

I've always loved your content. In my opinion, your channel is, without a doubt, an inarguable example of what type of videos should be uploaded on RUclips. After watching this response to the Logan Paul situation my admiriation to you and the channel just grew massively. It's incredibly uplifting to see RUclipsrs adressing the situation and calling it by its name instead of trying to stay as neutral as one can so they won't damage their reputation in front of RUclips. In The Mind of Kibara He's completed off-base though, the problem isn't the algorithm; the problem is voyeuristic outrage culture, and the cowards that capitulate to their demands for censorship.
If one sees a video that has a title and thumbnail you find distasteful, one should simply not watch it.
You are the one completely off base. Something like that is not gonna change in the snap of a finger and isn't the center of what Matt Pat is trying to advocate for, which is the proper management of RUclips both for it's sake and the sake of other youtubers being run dry and potentially crippled by the ramifications of this. Whatever associated social problems there are, they are not the focus of this video nor of what he's discussing in it.

I have an idea to defeat Logan loophole. It's call bring back reply video on recommended boxes. I know this could create another reply girl problem. But here more out my proposal. 1) Divide the reply boxes video in 3 section (support argument video, neutral, against). The one that get support video reply get more promoted 2) Out of topic reply can be voted out by fans.

For those who wonder about the video ending in mid sentence: I think it has to be taken more of a metaphorical way to express RUclips not letting people talk about what they should do to solve this problem, or what to do in generally (Because "no one tells the big guy what to do" amirite?). Abby Morrison Its a tricky way to do that, yes, but with all the controversy around youtube, who took out video responses of other channels to Logan Paul's Aokigahara video, because "misleading or insufficient metadata" (when in fact its nothing like it). I dont know what YT its trying to do but MatPat its trying to show us that sometimes the ones who get shut down arent the people responsible, but the creators who has something to say about this

Not gonna lie, RUclips REALLY needs to stop blatantly playing favorites like this. The fact that significantly lesser channels have been crippled for MUCH lesser offenses is especially infuriating.
Heracross X I know im late to this party, but you see this everywhere. Once someone makes it big in a specific situation, they are able to do more with less consequences. Lets take actors for example, there have been massive actors doing a lot of hard drugs which was even known to the public, but at best they got send to rehab for a month or 2 before being back in action. Smaller actors that are just known enough to sometimes be featured in large movies, but often play in theatre due to the lack of movie jobs, would pretty much lose their jobs if they get caught doing something similar.
Big rappers still get record deals even if they got in a gang, small rappers in gangs dont even get close to that. There have even been people that accidentally killed someone in a carcrash after being intoxicated that still kept their old lives while smaller people with the same accidents had to switch careers or put 500% effort in getting their old career back.
If 1% of the channels generates you 99% of the income, you would care more for those channels keeping their income. Since youtube is a different platform and in most cases if you cant watch X, you'll watch Y or even Z so that youtube still has the same amount of views, but the fact is that people come quicker to youtube for bigger channels. THAT is why they are playing favorites. If GameTheory had something similar, they would be more forgiving too. Hell, I have seen some channels being allowed to monetize a video with licensed music since the music sold better because of that channel, where other channels would completely get demonetized for the exact same reason. It's not just RUclips, its advertisers being able to claim too.

I love that you never once mentioned in generous detail your opinion on the matter. You instead gave something that actually matters: How to solve this age-old YT dillema. I am not taking the Paul's side on this, but if you address this with a sense of hate, you only fuel the fire of likes and views that you spoke of. This is whst we need to see from RUclipsrs more: Less opinions and more facts/initiatives.

I just think about the fact that Tyler Joseph is from Ohio and focus on that
RUclips is so broken. I've been waiting along with thousands of other new creators for over a month for my channel to get reviewed for monetization. They said usually it gets done within a week. Now they're telling us it's going to be another 2-3 weeks. I love making videos, but right now I'd rather pick up shifts at Starbucks, because financially I'm in a hard spot. They're so distant in their communication, like they're trying to hide what they're doing from us. Just frustrating.

I don't even remember when I got them, I just got them... some time.

Nighthawk you seem to misunderstand, due to changes from early 2017 your channel cannot be monetized until after you reach 10000 views which flags your channel to be reviewed. Once that review is done you can be monetized, which previously took a week maximum. Now, however, there has been a massive delay on monetization reviews that have left every single one of them in the dark. I’ve been under review for almost 2 months now, and that’s hardly “less than a week. I imagine that since you had monetization in the past you just kept it, unless you’re confusing monetization for something else

This is a side of the story that I have not seen someone touch on quite as far as MatPat has. I feel like he is completely right. This will get a new brand for RUclips where teens act like idiots. Doing dumb things that could get themselves or others. Or, if they go to the extreme, take their own life. I am sure RUclips does not want their brand to be “The platform that teens upload videos of them committing suicide”. I hope this video gets to someone at RUclips. I hope they understand. I don’t want all the creators to suffer because these brothers and friends crossed a line multiple times.

Second, having anyone select something like Trending would classify RUclips as a publishing company, with all the laws and hassle that come with it (plus lawsuits that RUclips would much like to avoid).

I have absolutely no power in youtube other than in the comment section so far, but I believe that if one video creates this much controversy and is featured on pretty much ever single news channel ever (youtube is and international company),the channel that originally posted the video should get suspended for a few months until the buzz dies down about that video. During that suspension the channel can't be used, can't post, and others can't watch the specific video that took the world by storm which would be deleted. This is the consequence I would have enacted if I was the head of youtube. I would terminate the account if the controversy was extreme and the buzz didn't die down eventually. But, then again, I am only a fellow channel that has absolutely no youtube videos yet, and absolutely no power in youtube other than in the comments. Sometimes, words are stronger than actions, well, not in Logan Paul's case though. But hey, that's just a comment, A REALLY LONG COMMENT! AND PEACE OUT!

As an Airsoft RUclipsr, I'd also like to mention that RUclips didn't do anything about Logan Paul's channel, yet they demonetize Airsoft channels because they are "violent" and "promote violence and murder". Well, if they are willing to demonetize our channels then they should take down Logan's for his racism and hate speech. I was born in Korea, and I relate to the Japanese, as my biological grandmother is Japanese. I absolutely believe that the amount of stuff RUclips has done is not enough to punish Logan Paul for what he did.
Back to what I said in regards to the Airsoft Community. I vouch for us, saying that as a RUclips based Airsoft Channel, we feel that we are being ditched by RUclips, while people like Logan Paul are getting away with Racism or Offensive content. Airsoft is a sport, just like Football and Competitive Shooting are. IF Airsoft channels count as violent content, then how come does Logan still make money from his videos for the crap he does? Think about that.

Yeah any form of combat based youtube channel gets regularly demonetized. I watch a lot of World of Tanks, War Thunder, HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts) and Airsoft channels and they've all mentioned suffering with the whole demonetization problem, having to have every video manually reviewed.
